NEGLECTED NEWS ITEM ROUNDUP: JUNE 14th

independent voter cartoonIndependent Voter site Balladeer’s Blog takes a look at some recent news stories about the white-collar criminals who run the cesspool of corruption which masquerades as our government. (Links in the text.)

SENILE AND CORRUPT JOE BIDEN DOES ALL BUT SLOBBER ALL OVER HIMSELF AT G7 SUMMIT. Doddering figurehead continues to beclown himself, but America’s corrupt politicians are glad to have “graft as usual” back in fashion.

CHINA BREAKING LIMBS AND USING GENITAL TORTURE ON UYGHURS – BIDEN AND NBA ARE OKAY WITH IT. “Silence is consent” Democrats tell us.

WANDERING, CONFUSED JOE BIDEN HAS TO BE RESCUED YET AGAIN BY HIS WIFE JILL. Biden the Buffoon humiliated again.

WASHINGTON POST CALLS OUT JOE BIDEN’S LIE ABOUT ALZHEIMERS. And the Biden lie count keeps going up.

BIDEN REGIME CONTINUES ITS WAR ON THE WORKING CLASS AND THE POOR. The callous, the comfortable and the uncaring Democrats are fine with it.

EVEN THE WASHINGTON POST ADMITS BIDEN IS BRUTAL TO THE PRESS. But Big Tech is glad to censor news stories which put Biden in a bad light.

Tiny hands Joe Biden

Corrupt, senile, tiny-handed Joe Biden

LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON: HUNTER BIDEN, THE UNDERBOSS OF THE BIDEN CRIME FAMILY, PROVES JUST AS RACIST AS HIS FATHER JOE. The racial slur count for the Bidens continues to soar.

KAMALA HARRIS GETS UGLY WITH THE PRESS AGAIN. Hypocrites pretend it’s okay to be testy with reporters if you have a “D” after your name.

HUNTER BIDEN, UNDERBOSS OF THE BIDEN CRIME FAMILY, PIONEERS NEW SCAM – BRIBING THE BIDENS BY PAYING SIX FIGURE SUMS FOR HIS “ART.” Remember how “donations” to the Clinton Foundation were Hillary’s Pay For Play graft?

VIDEO OF ACCUSED RAPIST JOE BIDEN SCREWING UP AGAIN AT THE G7 MEETING. Other world leaders happy to be back to a U.S. figure they can buy, bribe and bully.

FASCIST BIDEN REGIME STILL HAS KIDS IN CAGES AND STILL HAS FAMILIES SEPARATED. But as we all know, Democrats never really cared about those kids or those families. They just used them as political tools.

MEDIA FORCED TO ADMIT OVER AND OVER THAT TRUMP WAS RIGHT ABOUT WHAT THEY CLAIMED WERE “LIES.” Your best bet: if it was called a Trump Lie, it was probably just an Inconvenient Truth for anti-Trump loons

REVOLUTIONARY WAR: PRIVATEER ACTIONS IN SEPTEMBER OF 1778

crossed sabresWith the Fourth of July holiday rapidly approaching here is another seasonal post. Previously, Balladeer’s Blog has looked at the swashbuckling actions of some American privateers from the Revolutionary War. This time here’s a look at one of the most successful months for our privateers – September of 1778.

crossed swords picSEPTEMBER 1st-5th – The American privateer ship the Active seized multiple prizes and took aboard several British Prisoners of War. Unfortunately, the Captain of the Active had stretched his crew too thin. The captive Brits gleaned the vulnerable position of their captors and rose up to seize control of the ship and were determined to link up with the first British vessel they could find to help take in the seized U.S. ship and consummate their freedom.

SEPTEMBER 6th – The 10-cannon brig the Gerard, an American privateer, under Pennsylvania’s J. Josiah, came upon the seized Active and, after a long chase, compelled the ship to surrender. Captain Josiah and his men learned they had just saved the American privateer crew and had recaptured the British POWs. The Gerard escorted the Active back to its Philadelphia port in case the POWs grew frisky again.

SEPTEMBER 17th – The 18-cannon privateer ship Vengeance, under one Captain Newman of Massachusetts, chased the British packet ship Harriet (16 cannon) for at least 6 hours before engaging it in battle. The Americans won and the Harriet surrendered.        Continue reading

AMERICAN FORCES FIGHTING IN RUSSIA: SEPTEMBER 1918 TO JANUARY 1920

memorial day rememberHAPPY MEMORIAL DAY! As usual, Balladeer’s Blog marks the occasion with a look at a neglected aspect of American military history. Spare some thoughts today for the men who perished in this action.

AMERICAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCES IN RUSSIA – The battles fought by these Americans carried over from the end of World War One into the early stages of the Russian Civil War. The Allied Nations of the First World War were fighting alongside the White (anti-Bolshevik) Russian Forces for a time.

Like any of my fellow World War One geeks I could drone on about it for hours, but I’ll try to keep this brief and on-point. The Red (Communist) Russians had taken Russia out of the war by signing a treaty with Germany. This had left German forces free to reinforce their armies on the Western Front, had jeopardized a large amount of Allied supplies which were already in the Russian port city of Archangel (Arkangelsk in Russian) on the White Sea AND jeopardized the safety of the Czech Legion along the Trans-Siberian Railroad.

memorial day pictureWith the World War still raging, the other Allied Nations prevailed on President Woodrow Wilson to divert some American forces intended for the Western Front to Archangel and beyond, joining a combined army of Brits, Poles and White Russians. The fighting in North Russia dragged on past the end of the global conflict in November of 1918 into June of 1919. The fighting in Eastern Russia dragged on until January of 1920. In other words, if the Americans sent to Russia had instead gone to their original destination of France, their combat operations would have ended on November 11th, rather than continuing for more than a year of further bloodshed and loss of limbs from frostbite. All the more reason to remember the often-neglected troops who served there.

On July 17th, 1918, American General John J “Black Jack” Pershing ordered 5,000 soldiers drawn from the 339th Infantry Regiment, the 1st Battalion of the 310th Engineers and assorted other units from the 85th Division to re-train for new battle conditions and head for Archangel. Those Americans became known as the Polar Bear Expedition. Meanwhile, 8,000 American soldiers were sent to Vladivostok, Russia as the American Expeditionary Force in Siberia. Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG

With Memorial Day Weekend fast upon us, Balladeer’s Blog has been getting requests for readers’ favorite holiday-themed blog posts from the past. I want to post some new ones, too, so let me first post this item synopsizing items from the past complete with links if you want to read the entire article.

THE TOP FOUR FORGOTTEN CONFLICTS IN U.S. HISTORY – A brief look at 1781-1782, the neglected final year of fighting in the Revolutionary War, plus takes on the Mexican War (1846-1848), the Nicaragua Conflict (1926-1928) and the Philippine War (1899-1902). Click HERE.

AMERICA’S NAVAL WAR WITH FRANCE (1798-1801) – Often called a “Quasi-War” because of how few land battles there were and because no formal declaration of war was made, this conflict featured a lot of fascinating action on the high seas. The men who died fighting in it deserve to be remembered just as much as those who died in more high-profile wars. PART ONEPART TWO.

TWENTY COLD WAR ATTACKS ON AIRCRAFT – Throughout the Cold War, soldiers, sailors and pilots faced danger and even death in multiple clashes which were downplayed at the time to avoid an escalation of hostilities. Click HERE.

TOP FOUR FORGOTTEN UNITS IN AMERICAN MILITARY HISTORY – A look at Doniphan’s Thousand from the Mexican War, the Oneida Nation’s First Allies Unit from the Revolutionary War, the Yankee Samurai Unit from World War Two and the country’s very first racially integrated army unit, the First Rhode Island Regiment in the Revolutionary War. DEMOCRAT MEDIA OUTLETS PROVE ONCE AGAIN THAT THERE’S NOTHING MORE TRUE THAN SOMETHING THEY CLAIMED WAS A “TRUMP LIE”

trump wuhanIndependent voter site Balladeer’s Blog notes ONCE AGAIN that the Democrats’ media outlets have humiliated themselves because of their reflexive, irrational need to wrongly label information “lies” just because that information came from de facto Third Party President Donald Trump. Last year the very valid statement that there was some evidence linking Covid-19 to a Wuhan Laboratory was hysterically condemned as a “lie” by Democrats in the media and Big Tech Fascists at Twitter, Facebook, etc rushed to censor that information. (links below)

corporate media liesNow, the CDC and even the Democrats at the New York Times, Washington Post and elsewhere are admitting they were wrong AGAIN, with some of them hilariously blaming Trump for their mistakes. Actually, the corporate media’s well-known biases are to blame, as usual. This has happened over and over to the point that it’s becoming a truism to say that there may be nothing truer than something that was labeled a “Trump lie.”

Courageous non-partisan journalist Sharyl Attkisson, who has taken abuse for her hard-hitting reports on BOTH major American political parties, has outlined the biases of alleged “fact checkers” (LMAO) and has also covered over one hundred false stories the media spread about Trump. (links below)

As to this Wuhan Lab item, the forever doddering, stammering, prevaricating and flip-flopping Anthony Fauci, whose inept handling of AIDS decades ago has become the stuff of legend, continues to go back and forth on this topic depending on which way the winds are blowing on any given day. BATTLE FOR THE SOUL: ATLANTIC REPORTER’S BOOK CRITIQUES THE WEAK, INEPT AND CROOKED BARACK OBAMA

battle for the soulIn addition to The Twenty Best Books About Barack Obama And His Scandals we Independent Voters now have Battle for the Soul: Inside the Democrats’ Campaigns to Defeat Trump, written by Atlantic reporter Edward-Isaac Dovere. (Links below.)

Remember, I read everything from BOTH sides of the aisle, and while this book is mostly an anti-Trump account of the 2020 election it is getting advance praise for being at times even-handed enough to further puncture the pomposity of Barack Obama, the Eddie Haskell of American politics. Hilariously, though, excerpts available from the book don’t bash Obama because of his disastrous presidency’s negative impact on the U.S. as a whole, nor because of his ugly war on the working class and the poor, but because of the Obama administration’s negative impact on the Democrat Party.

I will say again that, as foolish as it is to feel “My country right or wrong” it is even MORE foolish to feel “My political party, right or wrong.” At any rate, Battle for the Soul rehashes the way Democrats lost around 1,100 offices around the country during Obama’s divisive and corrupt presidency, while Obama himself cared only about himself and about getting rich. (Tell Barack “At some point, I think you’ve made enough money.”)

Dovere’s book depicts Obama as “a ‘parasite’ on the Democrat party who sucked it dry for his reelection and left it saddled with debt.” The former President used the party structure as a ‘host’ for his 2012 campaign for a second term then treated it like a ‘husk’ to be discarded with $2.4million in debt.”

“In actual fact, despite his ‘beatification among Democrats’, Obama ‘inadvertently helped usher in what followed him’, meaning Trump.” (NOTE FROM BALLADEER: And, as I’ve pointed out in the past, only imbeciles believe that America has ever had a “scandal-free” presidency. And from the moment Barack bubbled and gurgled up from the criminal cesspool of Chicago politics he oozed scandal and corruption constantly.) Continue reading

WITH THE FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION IN SYRIA (1928)

french foreign legion in syriaWITH THE FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION IN SYRIA (1928) – Written by a British former member of the French Foreign Legion using the alias John Harvey. Previously, Balladeer’s Blog examined the excellent 1895 short story collection titled Garrison Tales From Tonquin (Tonkin), a fascinatingly ahead of its time look at the French Foreign Legion in Vietnam during and after the Sino-French War. American James O’Neill wrote those powerful stories based on his own experiences in the Legion during the 1880s and 1890s.

This John Harvey work is nowhere near as literary as O’Neill’s forgotten writing. Harvey was a deserter who presents a fairly self-serving account of his time in the French Foreign Legion, largely depicting himself as a victim fooled into enlisting based on false promises by the recruiter. He doesn’t deal with larger issues the way O’Neill did.

rashayaJohn Harvey’s With The French Foreign Legion In Syria instead wallows in the tawdry and brutal side of the Legion. Instead of James O’Neill’s poetic, astonishingly prescient tales, this volume presents an ugly and sensationalistic take on the FFL. It would have stood in stark contrast to stories romanticizing the Legion as written by P.C. Wren and others. No movies of the time would have touched these violent, vulgar Peckinpah-style antics. Get ready for a look at some Legionnaires who would make The Wild Bunch look genteel.

Harvey provided a very readable, albeit bleak, account of the FFL’s First Cavalry Regiment, or 1er REC. That cavalry unit was headquartered at Sousse in Tunisia, rather than in Algeria, like most other French Foreign Legion units in North Africa. That provides an element of novelty for readers of Legion history, as does the Syrian setting during the Revolt of 1925-1927. Continue reading

SEVEN BURIED TREASURES THAT HAVE YET TO BE FOUND

masc graveyard smallerBalladeer’s Blog takes a look at several buried treasures which legends maintain may still be out there for the finding.

***

MONTEZUMA’S CARAVAN

Estimated Value: $52,000,000.00 in 2021 terms.

Last Seen: 1520 A.D.

Lore: Observing how the Spanish were stealing every bit of treasure they found, Aztec ruler Montezuma had his treasury and temples stripped of as much gold, silver and jewels as possible. He intended to have it sent northward and buried until the Spanish could be driven out of the New World. Over time everyone who knew where the horde was located died.

Potential Locations: Arizona, New Mexico or Utah.

THE GOLD OF REMY LEDOUX

Estimated Value: As high as $208,000,000.00 in 2021 terms.

Last Seen: Late 1780s-1790s

Lore: In the 1780s French fur traders led by one Remy Ledoux heard about rich veins of gold from some free-spending and loose-talking Spaniards. The fur traders checked out the location indicated and came across their own finds, which they worked for years.

Amid growing hostility with Spanish prospectors and Native Americans in the area, Remy and his colleagues buried the gold in anywhere from 1 to 3 locations and headed back to civilization until tempers near their gold veins could cool. They suffered more Native American attacks and only Ledoux made it back east alive. The map he left behind has proven to be either incredibly wrong or coded.

Potential Location: The San Juan Mountains of Colorado. Continue reading

EXPLAINING LIZ CHENEY FOR OVERSEAS READERS

mascot donkey and republican headsOverseas readers have been asking me about the Liz Cheney situation in Congress. Since Balladeer’s Blog is an Independent Voter site I’ve always made it clear I would be fine if both the Democrats and Republicans splintered into multiple smaller parties because neither one represents the needs of their constituents at this time. That’s why people know they will get a response from me that is NOT motivated by political party bias.

I would love to be able to describe the situation without having to discuss the Donald Trump angle, but our insane media loves to pump up ratings by making EVERYTHING about Trump, so there is no way around it. Links to news items regarding the following remarks are presented below.

To begin with, Liz Cheney is political garbage from the Republican Party. Her father is THE Dick Cheney, Vice President under the repulsive and disastrous George W Bush. (Remember the much lauded movie Vice? That’s her “daddy.”) Her father’s conflicts of interest and blood-soaked ways of making money off the still-going Middle East conflict that the Bush-Cheney Administration LIED THE COUNTRY INTO are still relevant.

LIZ CHENEY REPRESENTS EVERYTHING AND EVERY POLICY THAT THE REST OF THE WORLD CONDEMNED AMERICA FOR OVER THE COURSE OF NEARLY A DECADE. She and her family are part of the obscenely corrupt and callous Bush Family wing of the Republican Party. The wing of open-ended warfare, of looking for new countries to invade, of contempt for the working class and the poor and so many other abuses.

The Cheney-Bush Republicans have been feuding with Donald Trump over the years for a number of reasons, INCLUDING the way that Trump kept Jeb Bush out of the White House in 2016. The horrific Bush-Cheney wing felt Jeb Bush, part of one of the most corrupt and harmful political families in history, “deserved” the presidency. There is no need to choose sides in this, of course, but don’t believe the way that the Democrats’ media outlets are depicting Liz Cheney like she cares about anything except putting the disgusting Cheney-Bush Republicans back in the driver’s seat.

democrat republican or awakeAnd remember, even if you hate Donald Trump, another reason the Cheney-Bush Warmongers opposed him is because HE KEPT THE U.S. OUT OF ANY NEW WARS. Even the most anti-Trump media outlets in the U.S. are often willing to concede that point. AND SINCE THE CHENEY-BUSH WING OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY WANTS ALL-WAR, ALL THE TIME, WITH VAGUE OBJECTIVES THAT THEY CAN ALWAYS CLAIM HAVEN’T BEEN MET YET, THAT IS WHY LIZ CHENEY AND HER ILK BASH TRUMP. If you back her, you’re backing open-ended warfare, among other things.

Our country’s Democrat Media outlets are, of course, painting Liz as “the good guy” because they are still motivated by their bizarre and obsessive anti-Trump hysteria AND because, as anyone can understand, the more in-fighting among Republicans, the more that helps the Democrats. Any political party’s media outlets would encourage in-fighting among their opponents.

A bigger problem comes in with the way America’s notoriously dishonest and shallow media reflexively canonizes ANYONE who criticizes Trump. That is why we have seen some of the ugliest political grifters in decades get lionized by the media if they bash Trump, and all the facts get ignored in the mad rush to side with them.

Even if you really, really hate Donald Trump, we have had several years now to see that reactionary anti-Trump hysteria prompts some people to instantly revere some horrible people. Look at Governor Andrew Cuomo’s now-exposed coverup of his negligent slayings of the elderly in New York elder-care facilities AND of his repeated sexual assaults. Just because he and Trump were in public disagreement, the disgusting Cuomo was being hailed for his (now revealed as lies) “press briefings” on Covid. Democrats even gave him an Emmy for them before the truth came out, remember?

For additional reminders of the way our irrational and dementedly partisan media acts like “disagreement with Trump washes away all crimes and sins”:

mccain warmonger*** John McCain, the racist Republican warmonger who did more than anyone else to try to stop America from having its first African-American president, was, of course, LATER treated like a statesman by the Democrats’ media outlets because he feuded with Trump. Hell, if you have a short memory or were too young to have noticed it, John McCain was, once upon a time being likened to Hitler, etc. For just one small (and light-hearted) example, you can still see Family Guy reruns like the one depicting the time-traveling Stewie and Brian encountering Nazis in the World War Two era wearing John McCain buttons. (The cartoon dates from around when McCain and Sarah Palin were running for president and vice president in real life.) Continue reading

AMERICAN TELEVISION: 1940

mascot chair and bottle picBalladeer’s Blog’s recurring feature Forgotten Television goes way back this time around with a look at the state of the new broadcasting technology in 1940. Great Britain and the Soviet Union had been making as many, if not more, milestone achievements in tv programming through 1939. However, World War Two brought an end to BBC television broadcasting at 12:35PM on September 1st of that year. The Mickey Mouse cartoon Mickey’s Gala Premier was the last item broadcast via television in the U.K. until 1946, when the BBC resumed programming with that very same cartoon.

The United States, of course, did not enter the war until December of 1941, and with Great Britain and the Soviet Union preoccupied with the raging conflict, America took center stage in the future of television broadcasting.

*** 1940 ***

1940 television setJANUARY – The FCC holds hearings on potentially licensing television broadcasting. It will not finalize its actions until April 30th of 1941, but in the meantime stations around the country continue pioneering tv programming.

FEBRUARY 21st – A simulcast of NBC News With Lowell Thomas debuts, televising Thomas’ daily radio news program on Station W2XBS in New York. The tv side of the simulcast would only last until July 30th.

FEBRUARY 25th – Station W2XBS-TV broadcasts the very first televised ice hockey game. The New York Rangers host the Montreal Canadiens at Madison Square Garden.

FEBRUARY 28th – Historic Madison Square Garden marks another milestone: the very first basketball game ever televised. The Fordham University Rams host the University of Pittsburgh Panthers.

MARCH 10th – The Rockefeller Center studio of NBC presents the very first television broadcast of the New York Metropolitan Opera. Excerpts from 5 operas are presented. Continue reading
