AUGUST 31ST COLLEGE FOOTBALL ACTION

St Norbert College

St Norbert College

Among the smorgasborg of college football games today in the divisions covered by Balladeer’s Blog the St Norbert College Green Knights (logo at left) will be in Dublin, Ireland to take on the John Carroll Blue Streaks, the team the NFL’s London Fletcher played his college ball for.

That game is being played in advance of Saturday’s Dublin matchup between Notre Dame and Navy. Other games on the slate for today will pit D3’s defending champion Whitewater Warhawks against the Washington (MO) Bears, the McDaniel Green Terror against the Catholic Cardinals and the Anna Maria Amcats against the Worcester State Lancers.

The NAIA and NJCAA have tonight off but NCAA Division 2 teams will see action, including the Upper Iowa Peacocks, the Continue reading

LIBERALS AND CONSERVATIVES AND POLITICAL CONVENTIONS

” And for my next trick, I’ll make your take-home pay shrink EVEN MORE in my second term!”

Welcome back to the favorite place of Independent Voters, Balladeer’s Blog, the only site on the web that is truly nonpartisan in its criticism of the repulsive demagogues called Liberals and Conservatives.
Many of my regular readers are from overseas and they often express confusion about America’s method of nominating people for the presidency and about how we end up with the same type of tiresome partisan zealots time after time.

The important thing to remember is that our choices are severely limited by those two rival gangs of white- collar criminals called Democrats and Republicans. Neither of those political parties is mentioned in the Constitution but you can’t realistically run for dog- catcher in this country without having to deal with the party apparatus of those Continue reading

COLLEGE FOOTBALL ACTION FOR AUGUST 30TH, 2012

Welcome to Week Two of the 2012 college football season. Yes, no matter what ESPN says, this is the SECOND week of gridiron action for 2012. Remember the Exclusively Sports Publicists Network pretends various divisions of college football don’t exist just because they don’t have the contract to broadcast their games. Besides, they’re far too busy devoting entire weeks to publicizing a video game to pay attention to actual athletic competition.

The Southwestern College Moundbuilders (helmet above left) take on the (10) Northwestern (IA) Red Raiders in one of tonight’s games. Other NAIA games for the night will see the (17) VCS Vikings visit the (8) Morningside Mustangs, the Mayville State Comets face the Dakota College at Bottineau Lumberjacks and the (7) St Francis (IL) Fighting Saints host D2’s Ferris State Bulldogs.

As for NCAA Division 3 action, the Pacific Boxers host the Simon Fraser Clan (as in Scottish clan), the (15) Wheaton Thunder welcome the Continue reading

END OF THE WORLD MYTH: WORLD WAR ONE AND SPANISH FLU

With so many gullible people believing the world is going to end on December 21st Balladeer’s Blog has been examining various end-of-the- world scenarios from popular belief.

Throw in the fact that I’ve been flat on my back with a horrible case of the flu the past few days (and am going to a doctor about it tomorrow since it won’t go away) and it got me thinking about the global Spanish influenza pandemic from approximately 1918 to 1920.

The photo in the upper right is of mass graves being dug for flu victims who died in Philadelphia. The flu Continue reading

NOTEWORTHY COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM AUGUST 25TH, 2012

UVA-WISE PLAYS GIANT-KILLER – The NAIA’s UVA-WISE HIGHLAND CAVALIERS pulled off the upset of opening week yesterday! The unranked Highland Cavs took it on the road against the 11th- ranked BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS and, fighting with characteristic highland intensity, came out on top in the end! UVA-Wise brought the Wildcats crashing down in overtime by a score of 24-21 in this undisputed Instant Classic.

OTHER TOP 25 UPSETS – The number 11 spot was a dangerous place to be yesterday, as both teams tied for 11th in the rankings took a fall. In the 3rd edition of the Rivalry Renewed series between the OTTAWA (KS) BRAVES and the BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS the number 11 Braves were upset at home by the 18th-ranked Wildcats in a bruising 27-20 epic. This puts Baker up 2 games to 1 since this series resumed in 2010.

MARATHON IN MICHIGAN – In the lengthiest game of Week One the SIENA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY SAINTS (helmet at left) outlasted the visiting ROBERT MORRIS (IL) EAGLES.

It took double-overtime to accomplish it, but the Saints started the 2012 football season in the win column by a final score of 26-19. The Continue reading

SHINTO DEITY: KONOHANA

KONOHANA – Also called Sengen-Sama, Konohana was the goddess of flowers and cherry blossoms and is the wife of the god Ninigi. That god had come to Earth from Takamagahara, the High Heavenly Plain, at the command of his grandmother, the sun goddess Amaterasu.

Konohana’s father, the mountain god Ohoyama, offered Ninigi a choice between Konohana and his other daughter, Ihanaga, the goddess of stone which endures for ages.

If Ninigi had Continue reading

COLLEGE FOOTBALL ACTION: AUGUST 25TH, 2012

Welcome to the first Saturday of the 2012 college football season! We got to warm up with a few games during the week and now today will see a huge slate of games in two of the divisions covered here at Balladeer’s Blog.

The NAIA’s Point University Skyhawks (logo above) are among the relative newcomers to intercollegiate football taking the field today. Teams like the Concordia (MI) Cardinals, Robert Morris (IL) Eagles and the Siena Heights Saints are still in the early years of their football programs, too.  The Bluefield College Ramblin’ Rams are playing their first intercollegiate game in decades today.

The Texas College Steers, Ottawa (KS) Braves and the William Penn University Statesmen are also among the dozens of NAIA football teams seeing action today.

Meanwhile in the NJCAA some teams are starting the season with conference games. The Hutchinson Blue Dragons are hosting the Coffeyville Red Ravens, the Dodge City Conquistadors battle the Butler (KS) Grizzlies and the Garden City Broncbusters travel to take on the Independence Pirates.

Also among the dozens of NJCAA teams kicking off the 2012 season today are “all-nickname” programs like the Vermillion College Ironmen, the Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters, the Iowa Western Reivers, the College of DuPage Chaparrals and the Scottsdale Fighting Artichokes! (really)

As always, Balladeer’s Blog will be offering a Continue reading

FUTURE HISTORY – PRELUDE TO WORLD WAR III: THE SECOND U.S. CIVIL WAR

In my fictional role as an archaeologist who retrieves documents from the future (after all, anybody can find documents and relics from the PAST) I’ve discovered quite a few items pertaining to our near future. This is one of those fragmented cyber-documents that I’ve been able to translate into English from the dominant Earthly language of the future. There are a great many lacunae in the documents owing to the strain of temporal travel back here to the year 2012 so the translations will be slow- going.

This first item is from a book that appears to be from roughly 2109 – 2120. I’m changing the author’s name to prevent potentially interfering with the lives of their ancestors who are alive right now. First of all is the foreward to that book.

FOREWARD

This revised edition of Lucian Monahan’s exhaustive historical account of the 2nd American Civil War in the 2030’s includes additional material that was not available for the original edition. The additional material includes Monahan’s interviews with the left-wing and right-wing generals and political leaders mere days before the conflict went global, morphing into the 3rd World War.

With various creditor nations of the former United States despairing of a Continue reading
