CHRISTMAS CAROL-A-THON 2013 BEGINS: READ-ALONG CHRISTMAS CAROL (1995)

Fezziwig's Christmas Party

Fezziwig’s Christmas Party

Welcome to Balladeer’s Blog’s Fourth Annual Christmas Carol-A-Thon! It’s the time of year when I examine countless adaptations of the Dickens classic from television, movies, radio and elsewhere! As always new versions will be sprinkled in with the old standards.

Starting us off for 2013 is the 1995 home video Read-Along Christmas Carol This version is just 50 minutes long and is ideal for youngsters learning how to read or for the hearing-impaired to watch. The video features a series of still drawings AND limited animation from the Dickens classic accompanied by word-balloons of dialogue (like in comic books or comic strips) appearing over the characters’ heads.

This version provides an Continue reading

TURKEY DAY: A LOOK AT BAD MOVIES AND SHORTS FOR THANKSGIVING

Blood Freak (1972)

Blood Freak (1972)

For the Thanksgiving holiday Balladeer’s Blog is focusing on bad movies and hilariously lame educational shorts that have a specific Thanksgiving theme. As always my Bad Movie page contains full-length reviews of the films I’m offering a brief synopsis of here.

BLOOD FREAK (1972) – This movie is about a man who turns into a murderous monster with the head of a turkey after he eats a chemically treated gobbler at the turkey farm where he works. Blood Freak has been a cult classic for Thanksgiving for decades now, with many Movie Host shows of the late 70’s onward making a point of screening it at this time of year (including The Texas 27 Film Vault). The biker who turns into the blood-crazed turkey monster is Continue reading

"Please, sir, may I have some more?"

“Please, sir, may I have some more?”

It’s that time of year again! Just a note in the spirit of the holiday season to mention my favorite Thanksgiving Eve movie.

Every Wednesday before Thanksgiving I make a point out of watching the musical Oliver!

I know the Continue reading

COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF AND BOWL RESULTS FROM NOVEMBER 23RD

* FRIDAY NIGHT *

ASA CollegeCARRIER DOME BOWL – Friday night November 22nd saw the first Bowl Game of 2013. The ASA COLLEGE AVENGERS took on the COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS in a duel of cool-named teams. The Avengers led 7-0 early on and never looked back, winning easily 23-3. It’s impossible to over-praise the Avengers. This still-young college football program just played in its second Bowl game in a row and with this victory logged the first Bowl win in program history.

* NCCAA CHAMPIONSHIP *

Azusa Pacific CougarsVICTORY BOWL – The Victory Bowl is the National Championship game in the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association). Rome, GA was the site of this game yesterday. The AZUSA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY COUGARS played the defending champions, the GREENVILLE COLLEGE PANTHERS. Despite being the incumbents, the Panthers were very heavy underdogs against the Azusa Pacific juggernaut. The final score in this lopsided title clash was Cougars 67  Panthers 0. Congratulations to Azusa Pacific University!

* NAIA PLAYOFFS *

Tabor_KSBATTLE OF THE BIRDS – The TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS traveled to take on the BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS as the playoffs kicked off in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics). The Ravens led 7-0 after one Quarter but the Blue Jays made it 7-6 by Halftime. In the 3rd Quarter Tabor College got a Touchdown but failed on the 2-point conversion attempt, leaving the score at 12-7. Early in the 4th Quarter the Blue Jays forced a Safety out of the Ravens, making it 14-7 after all. Benedictine College pulled within one but ultimately got upset 14-13. Continue reading

OBAMA ADMINISTRATION SCANDALS: A USER-FRIENDLY GUIDE TO THE SLEAZIEST PRESIDENT SINCE NIXON

Barack Obama: Pathological Liar

Barack Obama: Pathological Liar

Trying to keep up with all of the corruption and criminal malfeasance of the Barack Obama administration is a difficult task. As with the Nixon scandals the supporters of the crook in the White House at first smugly dismissed the ongoing investigations, then pompously declared them to be “political witch hunts”. Finally, they resigned themselves to the fact that the scandals weren’t going away and tried to downplay them, shift blame or (in the case of Little Barry Obama) make unfounded accusations of “racism”. Uh. Yeah, Barry. Like no other presidents have been grilled while in office.

And remember, I’m the furthest thing from a Conservative. In fact I outspokenly supported gay marriage YEARS before the weak little man named Barack Obama decided it was politically safe enough for his opposition to it to “evolve” into support.

And let’s not forget Barry’s slimiest partner in crime Eric Holder, the 21st Century J Edgar Hoover who abuses his position for political purposes and is up to his ears in investigations and impeachment hearings himself. At any rate let’s dive in to the Obama Crime Family Scandal Guide:

FAST AND FURIOUS – Obama and his Consigliere Eric Holder’s inept (or outrightly crooked) attempt to Continue reading
