OBSCURE AMERICAN HORROR LEGENDS

Red GnomeBalladeer’s Blog’s month-long celebration of Halloween continues with this look at a variety of forgotten or neglected horror legends from American lore.

THE RED GNOME OF DETROIT – A supernatural figure that was once a servant of the Native American deity Glooskap. When the Red Gnome’s efforts to drive off the increasing numbers of newly-arrived Europeans failed it settled in to torment the newcomers whenever it could.

The Red Gnome preyed on the Cadillac family, British and American military units and on romantic couples consisting of any Native Americans and white-skinned people. Fires, drownings and all-out massacres have been laid at the door of this malevolent entity. FOR THE FULL ARTICLE CLICK HERE

Corpse SmithTHE CORPSE-SMITH OF CONNECTICUT – Also called the Cadaver Master and the Carrion Engineer this mad scientist of Eastern European descent was the cause of the many vanished graveyards from Connecticut’s past. The Corpse-Smith scandalized 1770s America with his brilliant but macabre uses for every single resource he could possibly harvest from the bodies of the recently deceased.

Eventually the deranged genius was driven (literally) underground, where he set up a subterranean laboratory beneath the first of the Connecticut cemeteries he would plunder. The Corpse-Smith and the mechanical servants he created from human remains hollowed out a labyrinthine tunnel network that facilitated their grave-robbing efforts and their increasingly macabre experiments. Gravediggers and sextants feared the Corpse-Smith, who often hungered for fresher meat than he was used to. FOR THE FULL ARTICLE CLICK HERE Continue reading

WIKILEAKS’ JULIAN ASSANGE: HOW NAIVE IS HE?

wikileaksWikileaks has been doing the job that “journalists” stopped doing long ago (except for Sharyl Attkisson) and the outfit has shone light on many crucial stories that would otherwise be ignored by the corporate media.

When it comes to Wikileaks’ Julian Assange and his slow leak of materials that are damaging to the criminal Hillary Clinton I’ll say this – While it is certainly good to get this information into the record he is seriously fooling himself if he thinks that ANYTHING he could leak would have an impact on Hillary Clinton supporters.

Wikileaks could release security camera footage of Hillary shooting someone to death, stealing the corpse’s wallet and then dragging the dead body off-camera and it would have NO effect on them. Hillary supporters are barely human political robots who are incapable of independent thought.

All that would happen is Obama would step in and give her a Presidential Pardon and Democrats would STILL vote for her … maybe even without the pardon.   Continue reading

LA MALROCHE (1833): HALLOWEEN READING

La MalrocheLA MALROCHE (1833) – By Louisa Stuart Costello. Halloween month continues here at Balladeer’s Blog with yet another look at a neglected work of Gothic Horror, this one dealing with witchcraft, a monstrous child and supernatural beasts. Louisa Costello, the female author of this eerie tale, deserves to be much better known.

La Malroche refers to a mountain in a dreaded and generally avoided area of 1830s France. At the foot of that mountain is the town of Escures, where only people too poor to have fled the area still live. Also near the foot of La Malroche is the home of the witch called La Bonne Femme (“The Good Woman”) by the local citizenry, a title bestowed on her out of fear rather than merit.   Continue reading

JANICE SHAW CROUSE, PhD ON WHY SHE’S VOTING FOR TRUMP

janice-shaw-crouse-phd

JANICE SHAW CROUSE, PhD

All day long the media here in the U.S. bashes Trump while making a point of ignoring Hillary Clinton’s negatives. Regular readers of Balladeer’s Blog are aware of my antipathy toward both main political parties here in the U.S. (DemCorp and RepubCorp) but media bias is SO severe this election year that it’s refreshing to find someone making a case for a candidate based on something other than “mean” remarks or the usual shallow things the media obsesses over.

Dr Janice Shaw Crouse  – whose doctoral dissertation involved presidential campaigns  – makes some interesting points:

“I’m voting for Trump because of my experience in D.C., my training in logic, and my appreciation for those who can ‘get the job done. I’ve had enough of the lawyer-political types who can talk a good-sounding talk, but can’t get the job done …

clinton-cash“President Obama and Secretary of State/Presidential Candidate Clinton have the lawyer’s ability to give good speeches (though not consistently). A close examination, however, reveals the mess Mrs. Clinton left at the State Department and the news is full of the multiple disasters she has left in her wake since her first job on the Watergate Committee in the 1970s.

“The litany of national crises precipitated by President Obama fills books and continues to make news headlines. His legacy is a nation worse off than it was 8 years ago by almost every measure.

“As Mr. Trump said during the first debate, ‘They’ve had 30 years!’ We should not have to endure another 4 to 8 years of such disaster;  As the cliché goes: ‘I’m much more appalled by what Hillary has done, than by what Trump has said.’

hillary-clinton-laws-are-for-the-peasants“So, in 2016, I’m voting for common sense.

“I am voting to end the ridiculous ways politically-correct language is changing the way we live, disrupting our universities and making people afraid to speak out about deeply held personal views. I’m tired of ‘safe places’ and ‘trigger warnings’ and all the silliness that political correctness has imposed on US citizens.

“I’m voting for lawful immigration with secure borders and a legal process for becoming an American citizen with its rights, privileges and responsibilities. We should not admit more immigrants to the country than can be absorbed by the infrastructure; we should not allow immigrants who have no intention of assimilating into American culture and becoming American.

“I’m voting for a return to considering America’s best interest in international decisions. Yes, the world is increasingly a small place when anyone can fly to its farthest reaches in just a few hours, but it’s time our president respected America and Americans and paid attention to what’s beneficial for our citizens.

“I’m voting for protection of the Bill of Rights and the provisions of the Constitution – especially the rights of freedom of speech and religious liberty. Mrs. Clinton threatens to confiscate guns and obviously is soft on Islamic Terrorism. Continue reading

THE MAGICIAN (1908): HALLOWEEN READING

magician-by-somerset-maughamTHE MAGICIAN – During Halloween Season a few years back Balladeer’s Blog reviewed the 1926 silent movie adaptation of The Magician. This time around I’ll review the original Somerset Maugham novel from 1908. It’s no secret at this late date that the malevolent sorceror of the title, Oliver Haddo, was based on the real-life Aleister Crowley. In fact, Crowley would accuse Maugham of plagiarism when he reviewed The Magician under the name Oliver Haddo, his fictional counterpart.

At any rate the 1926 film is an under-appreciated classic of the Silent Era and the novel is of an even higher quality. In Paris – where Maugham first met Crowley in real life – Dr Arthur Burdon, a prominent young British surgeon, has come to visit his fiancee, artist Margaret Dauncey.

Burdon also visits his elderly former mentor, Dr Porhoet, who has turned from medicine to the study of Magick and the occult arts. It is through Porhoet that Dr Burdon and Margaret – plus Margaret’s friend Susie Boyd – first encounter the elegant yet repellant Oliver Haddo. The cadre of friends make the mistake of ridiculing the boastful Haddo’s claims of being a sorceror in the young 20th Century. Continue reading

LATEST MUSLIM ATROCITIES

islam-and-violenceAs always Muslim fanatics continue to kill and kill and kill in countries all around the world. They’ve been doing it for CENTURIES but the Left-Wing Archie Bunkers who pretend to be “educators” in the Western World try their best to obscure that fact. They also try to whitewash Islam’s history of slavery as well, plus its misogyny, homophobia and oppression of religious minorities.

Here are just a FEW of the latest blood-soaked actions from the religion which has been retarding the rest of the world’s social progress for centuries.

September 19th – Malam Fatori, Nigeria: Muslim fascists ambushed and killed FORTY innocent people, leaving no survivors.

September 17th – Ndomete, Central African Republic: Muslim fascists went door-to-door seeking non-Muslims to kill. The fanatics murdered TWENTY-SIX innocent people.

Islamophobia posterSeptember 18th – Uri, India: Islamofascist suicide bombers killed EIGHTEEN innocent people and injured 19 more.

REMEMBER: Decades ago Muslims claimed that they would stop killing people in India as long as Pakistan was officially designated as its own state for Muslims. It was, of course, but Muslims have STILL not stopped the violence. THIS IS ALWAYS ISLAM’S PATTERN:

a) Use violence to force political, social, territorial and religious concessions from non-Muslims, promising to end the violence when those concessions are granted.

b) After the concessions are granted, refuse to stop the violence anyway. Repeat the process indefinitely. Plus in the 21st Century Muslims can count on the Left-Wing Archie Bunkers who pretend to be Liberals to provide PR aide by siding ONLY with Muslims who hate the Western World.

September 2nd – Davao, Philippines: Abu Sayyaf, the local affiliate in the Global Muslim Fascist Murder Machine, killed FIFTEEN innocent people and injured SEVENTY-ONE more.  Continue reading

PONTYPOOL (2008): A ZOMBIE FILM THAT’S UNIQUE

pontypool

Pontypool

Balladeer’s Blog’s month-long celebration of Halloween continues! If you’re like me you’re bored with all of the zombie and pseudo-zombie films and tv shows that seem to come out every few months. Pontypool is at least a zombie film that defies the formula.

PONTYPOOL (2008) – Pontypool is based on the novel by Tony Burgess and is set in a small town in Ontario. The best way to describe this original and thought-provoking movie would be by saying “If PBS decided to do a zombie film I think it would go something like this …”

The movie stars Stephen McHattie who portrays Grant Mazzy, a former shock jock from America. He’s currently languishing on a small station in the backwoods of Canada after his provocative antics got him fired one too many times from radio stations in the States.

pontypool-2He tries to liven up his boring gig on local radio by suggesting some unorthodox public behavior to his listeners and is as surprised as his female producer Sydney Briar (Lisa Houle) when people around the area begin taking him up on the suggestion. As reports continue to come into the tiny radio station it soon becomes apparent that the population isn’t just extremely receptive to suggestion, many of them have become living zombies with a desire to kill anyone not similarly stricken.  Continue reading
