IROQUOIS EPIC MYTH: HODADEION PART TWO

Iroquois longhouse lodge villageIn the tradition of Balladeer’s Blog’s previous looks at neglected epic myths from the Navajo, Vietnamese and Chinese pantheons here is Part 2 of my look at the Iroquois god of magic Hodadeion.

PART 2 – THE WASP-MEN – (Hodadeion was the son of the creator god Tharonhiawakon and a mortal woman, the same mortal woman who bore him Hodadeion’s siblings. Those siblings were Otgoe, the wampum god and Yeyenthwus, the future goddess of chestnut trees.)

Hodadeion ventured to the north despite his sister Yeyenthwus’ warnings. He came across a few more villages that were now deserted like his own and he realized how far-reaching was the reign of terror of the cannibalistic wizards who had decimated the population of his and his siblings’ home village.

Eventually Hodadeion stumbled into the territory of the Wasp-Men, who flew after Hodadeion, forcing him to Continue reading

CAL BAPTIST LANCERS REPEAT AS NCCAA WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS

calbaptist lancersYesterday the top seeded defending champions of NCCAA Division One  baseball, the CALIFORNIA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY LANCERS, took their second national championship in a row. Their opponents were the 5th seeded SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE and though there was a lot of riveting baseball throughout the rest of the NCCAA College World Series the championship game was kind of anticlimactic.

The Lancers wound up winning by a score of 7-0, leaving the only real question yesterday being whether or not Cal Baptist can make it a Threepeat next year. In the NCCAA Division Two this year Toccoa Falls College did just that. Congratulations to the Lancers! Balladeer’s Blog will continue its coverage of the postseason in Continue reading

JOE BIDEN REVIEWS DJANGO UNCHAINED

biden crazedIn the same format as Balladeer’s Blog’s previous item Newt Gingrich Reviews Ilsa: She-Wolf of the S.S. here’s my exclusive Joe Biden review of Django Unchained.

HEY KIDS! It’s Crazy Uncle Joe here with a movie review for my peeps! I finally got a chance to see this flick called Django Unchained, which I mistakenly thought was a documentary about a musician. Turns out instead that it’s an NRA gun-nut’s wet-dream of propoganda!

This black guy called Django goes around SHOOTING DEMOCRATIC VOTERS in the American South during the 1800’s! The filmmakers thought they could slip that hidden message past us but anybody who knows history knows it was Democrats who owned slaves and defended slavery with Continue reading

OCU then bounced back with a 5-2 upset of the 8th seeded CEDARVILLE UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS. Cedarville had dropped a 1-0 pitcher’s duel with the 5th seeded SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE earlier in Continue reading

BAD MOVIE: STAR SPANGLED RHYTHM (1942) ON THE TEXAS 27 FILM VAULT: JULY 6TH, 1985

Starring All Kinds of People Who Died Before Your Grandparents Were Born

Starring All Kinds of People Who Died Before Your Grandparents Were Born

In the middle 1980’s/ Way down on Level 31 …

Before MST3K there was … The Texas 27 Film Vault!

Balladeer’s Blog continues its examination of this neglected cult show from the mid-1980′s with the 7th review in a series where exact broadcast dates can be determined. My research through VERY old newspapers, my interviews with the show’s co-star and co-creator Randy Clower plus emails and comments from my fellow fans of the program are helping us piece together bits and pieces of the show’s history. Keep those Texas 27 Film Vault memories coming, ladies and gentlemen.

Episode originally broadcast: Saturday July 6th, 1985, from 10:30pm to 1am. Special thanks to my fellow T27FV fan Roberta for the date.

Extras: With 2 1/2 hours to work with each week Randy Clower and Richard Malmos, as machine-gun toting “Film Vault Technicians First Class”, would usually present and mock episodes of old Republic serials, then still had time to follow that up with a bad or campy movie AND their comedy sketches. Those sketches centered on their fictional Film Vault Corps, “the few, the proud, the sarcastic”, the men and women who “protected America’s schlock-culture heritage” in the form of the Golden Turkeys beloved by bad movie buffs.

Star Spangled Rhythm was so long that, with commercials plus Randy and Richard’s comedy sketches, there was no time for a serial episode before the film for this episode of The Texas 27 Film Vault.

The Movie: Star Spangled Rhythm was a Continue reading

LIBERALS AND CONSERVATIVES AND THE NEWS

Welcome once again to Balladeer’s Blog, the “Open City” in an America that is becoming increasingly disgusted with the fanatical left-wing zealots and right-wing zealots who are tearing the country to pieces. Liberals, Conservatives and Adults are all welcome here, which is the only place on the web that is truly non-partisan in its criticism of the shrill lunatics from both ends of the political spectrum. Time for another examination of the hypocrisy, immaturity and general self-centeredness common to Liberals and Conservatives alike.

Liberals and Continue reading
