Yesterday was Day One of the College World Series for Division 1 of the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association). Last week was Division 2’s tournament.
The 3rd seeded ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM trailed the 10th seeded COVENANT COLLEGE SCOTS 5-1 early on but had tied the ballgame up at 5-5 by the 5th inning. The Firestorm went on to win by a final score of 8-5, bouncing back after their 9-1 loss to the (6) OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS earlier in the day.
Olivet Nazarene themselves had gone on to lose a 3-2 heartbreaker with the 2nd seeded CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS in the night game.
The top seeded defending champions of NCCAA baseball, the CALIFORNIA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY LANCERS, went 2-0 for Day One, eviscerating the 8th seeded CEDARVILLE UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS by a score of 15-2 in the early game. In their second game of the day the Lancers got more of a fight from the 5th seeded SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE but still emerged with a 3-0 shutout.
The 7 seeds, the EMMANUEL CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY LIONS, were totaled 11-1 by (2) Campbellsville, making both top seeds 2-0 for the first day of the Series.
Meanwhile the 5th seeded SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE had begun their day by winning a 6-5 game for the ages against the 4th seeded MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE UNIVERSITY COUGARS. The Cougars bounced back from this early loss to smack down the 9 seeds, the OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES by a score of 7-3.
Southeastern vs Cedarville is set to kick off Day Two action.
