MOVIE REVIEW: THE BURQA (2013)

The Burqa: A heroic woman fighting Muslim Apartheid and defending women's rights.

The Burqa: A heroic woman fighting Muslim Apartheid and defending women’s rights.

THE BURQA (2013) – The Burqa deserves to be THE action film of the year. This movie has a daring premise, incredible stuntwork plus more killings and blood squibs than any three Quentin Tarantino movies put together. There’s also an unforgettable performance by the lead actress, whose name is being kept a secret over fears of violent reprisals from Islamist terrorist groups.

The film is set in modern-day Iraq. Our heroine,  known only as “The Burqa”, emerges from the desert sands, clad in the outfit she is named for and with automatic weapons strapped to each of her sashaying thighs. Like Clint Eastwood’s Man With No Name and John Garko’s Holy Ghost, both from Spaghetti Westerns, the Burqa is an unstoppable gunslinger who litters the land with her fallen foemen.

The audience first meets the title figure when she saves a teenage Muslim girl from being raped and killed by Islamist fanatics for daring to dress in western clothing and to advocate abortion rights. Countless Continue reading

AZTEC GODDESS: CHALCHIHUITLICUE

ChalchihuitlicueCHALCHIHUITLICUE – The Aztec goddess of lakes, streams, rivers and the ocean. She was also the patron goddess of birth, with the newly-born being soon after immersed in her waters to “cleanse” them. The diseased would often pray to Chalchihuitlicue for a cure before bathing in a body of water asking the goddess to wash away their illness. She was also considered the goddess of whirlpools, which the tectonics under Mesoamerica made fairly frequent back then. At Lake Texcoco in Pantitlan there was Continue reading

ISLAMISTS STILL WORKING TO DENY WOMEN THE RIGHT TO VOTE

If you're one of those Muslim men who get offended when women show their faces you need to join the 21st Century ... and seek psychiatric help.

If you’re one of those Muslim men who get offended when women show their faces you need to join the 21st Century … and seek psychiatric help.

MUSLIM APARTHEID CONTINUES IN THEIR INHUMAN TREATMENT OF WOMEN …

It should be no surprise that Islam, the only religion in the 21st century to perpetuate superstitious savagery like killing people for drawing pictures of their faith’s central figure, violently opposes women’s right to vote. In Pakistan, the Muslim Taliban still threatens women who try to vote and communities who try to accomodate women voting by issuing them national ID cards.

“Women voting is un-Islamic” according to many Muslim religious leaders in Pakistan. A woman voting is considered grounds for divorce in those same backward quarters. In the Muslim world women are treated as being mentally inferior to men. According to the Muslim practice of purdah a woman’s place is in the home and women are not allowed to leave the house without a male relative.

Sidra Ali, a female activist pursuing Continue reading

BAD MOVIE SHORT: THE MEANEST MAN IN THE WORLD (1954)

The United Fund

The United Fund

THE MEANEST MAN IN THE WORLD (1954) – This heavy-handed United Fund short was probably effective in its day. Back then people may have felt they were being too callous by openly laughing at the antics in this public service message.

Our central character, “Jim”, comes home late at night after a marathon work day. He startles his wife, who, in typical 50’s fashion sleeps in a separate bed. In fact he startles her SO much you get the impression she had a man on the side who may have left her bed a little too close to Jim’s homecoming for comfort.

Jim’s got even bigger problems, though. Money is tight, so tight that Jim tells his still-paniced wife that this year they won’t be able to afford their usual contribution to the United Fund. Our hero then falls asleep, while the disgusted narrator of this ham-fisted production sneers at his alleged callousness.

Now the real fun begins. This joyously tasteless  production tries to equate being unable to afford a United Fund contribution to monumental acts of deliberate cruelty. Jim’s dream counterpart stalks up to a hospital and viciously KICKS THE CRUTCHES out from under a poor crippled boy, then STANDS THERE LAUGHING HYSTERICALLY while looking down at Continue reading
