PUCK: ROBBER BARONS THEN AND SILICON VALLEY ROBBER BARONS NOW

puck cartoon robber barons tying up uncle samPuck magazine (1871-1918), the well-known political humor magazine, was at its height under original founder and creative director cartoonist Joseph Keppler. Here is a February 23rd, 1881 Keppler political cartoon depicting Jay Gould, the telegraph monopolist, and Cornelius Vanderbilt the railroad baron.

The point of the cartoon is the way those two Robber Barons – allied with like-minded newspaper tycoons whose papers were represented by the bonds around Uncle Sam’s arms and torso – abused their wealth and political influence to bind the United States (represented here by Uncle Sam) to their will.

Joseph Keppler was outraged at the power so unethically wielded by such figures to cloak themselves in righteous, philanthropic public images while in reality they – in Keppler’s words – clutched “the United States and all its institutions by the throat.”

Creepy LineThis is similar to the way the Silicon Valley and Social Media Robber Barons of today cloak themselves in “socially conscious” public images while in reality clutching the United States and all its institutions by the throat.

The Robber Barons criticized by Puck magazine exerted their ugly influence on behalf of right-wing politicians. The Robber Barons of the 21st Century tend to exert their ugly influence on behalf of left-wing politicians. The end results are equally totalitarian. Continue reading

MARK ZUCKERBERG LOOKS AT POETRY

Mark Zuckerberg dead inside

“I’M DEAD INSIDE.”

Nobody takes more joy in sucking the emotion out of all human contact than Facebook’s Mark “Skippy” Zuckerberg! Mark – who hopes to become “a real boy” someday – recently chatted with a nonexistent reporter for Balladeer’s Blog. The subject was Zuckerberg’s new algorithm for breaking down poetry (patent pending).

BALLADEER’S BLOG: So Mark, what made you and your ilk in Silicon Valley take time away from invading people’s privacy to poke and prod at poetry?

MARK ZUCKERBERG: It annoyed me that there was still a scintilla of humanity left in the written word and I realized I couldn’t rest until I had analyzed it, broken it down and/or monetized it in some way. At the very least I wanted to destroy the emotion within it.

BALLADEER’S BLOG: Why do you despise all passion?

Mark Zuckerberg act normalMARK ZUCKERBERG: I figure if I’m not capable of experiencing emotions there’s no reason that people who have less money than I do should get to experience them either.

BALLADEER: Say no more. May I recite some random lines of poetry to you so you can demonstrate how your poetry algorithm would translate them?

MARK ZUCKERBERG: I would not be opposed to doing that.

BALLADEER’S BLOG: The moon like a flower/ In Heaven’s high bower/ In silent delight/ Sits and smiles on the night

MARK ZUCKERBERG: “Moon good.”

BALLADEER’S BLOG: Let thy loveliness fade as it will/ And around the dear ruin each wish of my heart/ Would entwine itself verdantly still

MARK ZUCKERBERG: “Male gaze.” Or maybe “Toxic masculinity.” I yield to the Sarkeesian-bots on my staff when it comes to translating such dangerous misogyny and exhortations to rape.

THE CREEPY LINE (2018)

Halloween Month continues with the most frightening documentary since the morbidly obese Michael Moore’s film titled Why Can’t I Find A Training Bra That Fits Me?

Creepy LineTHE CREEPY LINE (2018) (AVAILABLE ON I-TUNES) – This is a terrific and highly-detailed look at the abuses involved in selective censorship on Social Media and other internet sites. The techno-fascists at Facebook, Google, Twitter and similar 21st Century Robber Baron domains are finally getting the kind of scrutiny that those privileged (and partisan) one percenters deserve.

The willingness of those corporate fascists to cooperate with totalitarian regimes and totalitarian political parties has become a danger to freedom of expression all around the world. Letting privileged white billionaires dictate acceptable language and ideas on the internet is like a real-life version of countless works of dystopian fiction.

Mark Zuckerberg dead inside

“I’M DEAD INSIDE.”

This situation also brings to mind Robert Ludlum’s espionage novel The Prometheus Deception in which Zuckerbergian techno-fascists are more than happy to help oppressive governments impose a global dictatorship. Such thoughts remain in the back of your mind the entire time you watch this riveting documentary.

Silicon Valley’s fondness for suppressing speech and undermining free elections makes this long-overdue expose very VERY relevant as social media sites are now often refusing even PAID ADVERTISEMENTS of candidates disliked by the one percenters in charge.

Data Harvesting and the way those same Robber Baron fiefdoms in Silicon Valley violate the privacy of users and then sell their most intimate information is explored as well. Overall The Creepy Line is as explosive and relevant as Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle was back in its day. Think of this documentary as a similar work updated for the internet age.

The Jungle caused such an uproar that it led to the Pure Food and Drug Act as well as the Meat Inspection Act. Hopefully The Creepy Line will lead to similar policing of the flagrant abuses of Silicon Valley’s “Masters of the Universe.”

DEMOCRATS LOVE CORPORATE FASCISM

Democrat sloganIn a way it’s fascinating as hell to be alive during this period in which America’s rival gangs of white collar criminals – Democrats and Republicans – have been forced to show their true, ugly, totalitarian faces.

The Democrats, who have lost countless elections at all levels across the country, are openly embracing the concept of having Corporate Rich Pigs force their (the Democrats’) irrational opinions on the rest of us with a savage ferocity that our actual government could never get away with on its own. The Democrats are being referred to these days as “The Party of CEO’s” and with good reason.

In a move even Machiavelli might have saluted, the Left-Wing Archie Bunkers who run the party of the Democrats have basically said to the country: “You can vote all you want, but we’ll just embrace Corporate Fascism to FORCE our dictates upon all of you!”

“After all,” the Democrats’ reasoning goes, “if we can work hand-in-hand with bloated rich pigs to ensure you won’t even be allowed to make a living if you express disagreement with us, then we think you’ll realize it’s in your own best interest to stop resisting and pretend you go along with even our most ridiculous positions.”

fascism is antifaGoing beyond Orwell’s much-cited “2+2=5” example from his novel 1984 the Democrats simply brush aside the impotent, bought and paid for Republican trash and go straight for the kill.

*** Instead of Orwell’s 2+2=5 we’ll go with another obvious fallacy just for the sake of variety. Let’s pretend the Democrats have somehow determined there is a political advantage to publicly embracing a similarly obvious fallacy – for that aforementioned variety we’ll say that Democrats want to force people to say “Earthworms are mammals.”

The Democrats will follow their tried and true process:

When free-thinking adults refuse to echo the ridiculous claim that “Earthworms are mammals” the Democrats will wheel and deal with bloated rich pigs like Mark Zuckerberg and similar types, like the powers that be at Starbucks and other companies.

Democrats will make it clear to those rich pig CEO’s that there are advantages to be had by cooperating with the Democrats in pushing their latest irrational Papal Bull. Political favors are to be had if various CEO’s use their bloated rich pig power to push the Democrats’ dogma down our throats.

Soon it gets to the point where these CEO’s (at places like Google, Facebook, Twitter, Silicon Valley, etc) will be firing and/or refusing to even hire people for holding positions that their Corporate Fascist political allies don’t like. It will all be done in the name of “combatting hatred” or “preventing puppy-dogs from being kicked” in the usual drama queen manner that Democrats love to use.

corporate fascist Mark Zuckerberg

CORPORATE FASCIST MARK “SKIPPY” ZUCKERBERG

Bloated rich pigs like Zuckerberg will enforce the ridiculous “Earthworms are mammals” claims by letting all of their social media users hit that all-powerful “report abuse” button to silence all dissenting opinions. Never mind that social media users can block whatever they personally don’t want to see, Democrats ALWAYS insist that opposing viewpoints are dangerous or “hatred” and must be censored.

And if, say, certain states or cities refuse to enforce the Democrats’ “Earthworms are mammals” notion by teaching it in schools then rich pig CEO’s – including the NFL, NBA, etc – will grandly announce they are boycotting those locations until they cave in and go along with what the Democrats have decreed that “all decent, compassionate people” believe.

Democrats will smilingly approve and Republicans – who apparently only run for office to get bribe money and well-placed connections – will bluster insincerely about how they’re going to “stop this corporate blackmail” but will just get paid off by the same bloated rich pigs working with the Democrats and will do nothing.

Republicans like John McCain, Paul Ryan and Lindsey Graham will publicly lecture the nation that they need to stop being “divisive” and get on board with this whole “Earthworms are mammals” program. After all, if the Democrats have decreed that it be taught at all levels of the educational system then it MUST be the truth.

All the Democrats in the Teachers Unions agree, for crying out loud. (That’s only because teachers who dissent from Democrat dogma get “complaints” filed against them until they’re gotten rid of, but still. Teachers agree! Or else they won’t be employed as teachers for very long. “Haters” don’t you know.)

Besides, the Democrats’ irrational dogma is so thoroughly embraced by shallow, uninformed and emotionally unstable singers, actors and talk-show hosts that – horror of horrors – they MAKE FUN of people who don’t conform!

Why, the underlings who manage the social media feeds of those celebrities might – OMG – BLOCK you or “unfollow” you if you publicly disagree with Democrats.

Corporate Fascism is openly proving on a daily basis that the ballot box can be bypassed and political dictates can be enforced through this totalitarian alliance of political zealots and Corporate Rich Pigs.

MARK “SKIPPY” ZUCKERBERG AND HIS ILK SETTING THEMSELVES UP AS GLOBAL CENSORS

corporate fascist Mark Zuckerberg

CORPORATE FASCIST MARK “SKIPPY” ZUCKERBERG

Corporate fascist Mark Zuckerberg – who hopes to become “a real boy” some day – has joined forces with his fellow techno-tyrants in assorted social media to impose their own narrow-minded notions of “decent speech” upon the rest of us.

Conveniently for the Democrats, Zuckerberg and his fellow bloated rich pigs agree to ban ANY opinions that Democrats say should count as “hate speech” and as “violations of community standards” and other such vague, meaningless phrases that totalitarians always use to justify censorship. Already an Asian, female Republican political candidate (Elizabeth Heng) has had her campaign ads censored. Just a coincidence, I’m sure.

Facebook, Twitter, Google and others have been shown discriminating against all non-Democrats plenty of times over the years. As I often point out, I visit left-wing AND right-wing sites regularly to make sure I’m getting multiple viewpoints. Plus in real life I am close to people from all over the political spectrum and it has become impossible to ignore the way that social media target, harass and discriminate against ONLY the non-Democrats.

Freedom of expression amnesty international### Facebook and Twitter should be treated like public utilities and stopped from their war on the free exchange of ideas. Ever check out how the overwhelming majority of the one-percenters at those companies donate ONLY to the Democrats? They are also giving IN-KIND contributions to the Democrats and need to provide equal time.

The modern-day versions of the disgusting old Robber Barons might well be the corporate fascists aka techno-fascists in assorted tech industries, not just regarding Silicon Valley but also  privacy-violating rich pigs at Facebook and elsewhere.

In fact, you could make the case that people like Mark “Skippy” Zuckerberg and his fellow corporate fascists are even worse since I don’t recall bloated rich pigs like E.H. Harriman or Cornelius Vanderbilt trying to police other people’s every thought, word and deed.

truth is the new hate speechThe invasive and ever-expanding tentacular reach of techno-fascists like Google and others makes these totalitarians a very credible threat to political freedom and freedom of expression.

In recent years outfits like Twitter, Facebook and others even made public noises about banning customers based on their conduct UNRELATED TO THOSE UTILITIES! Can you imagine the old, old Ma Bell monopoly cutting off people’s phone service because their operators caught those users discussing voting for political candidates disapproved of by Ma Bell’s upper echelons or expressing opinions frowned upon by Ma Bell?

Even worse, places like Google and others have made it firing offenses to be caught holding opinions at odds with the one percenters and bloated rich pigs who run those tech-related outfits.

Or put another way:   Continue reading

DYSTOPIA NATION: TECHNO-TYRANTS OF SILICON VALLEY

Mascot sword and pistolHere at Balladeer’s Blog I write plenty of items about myths from around the world. I often mention that my blog posts about figures from the American West are along the same lines to me since I think the exaggerated tales of whatever their real-life stories were originate the same way that many religious fables do: the usual human tendency toward superstition and embellishment.

Dystopian literature is similar but instead of embellishing figures and events from the past this type of fiction involves taking contemporary problems and/ or trends and extrapolating them into larger than life menaces in the near or far future.

Soylent Green did it with overpopulation and food shortages, One Blade of Grass did it with environmental issues and Orwell’s 1984 did it with totalitarian political forces which still threaten to use his nightmarish novel as their road map. Countless other examples could be cited.

THE TECHNO-TYRANTS OF SILICON VALLEY – The modern-day versions of the disgusting old Robber Barons might well be the corporate fascists aka techno-fascists in assorted tech industries, not just regarding Silicon Valley but also  privacy-violating rich pigs at Facebook and elsewhere.

In fact, you could make the case that people like Mark “Skippy” Zuckerberg and his fellow corporate fascists are even worse since I don’t recall bloated rich pigs like E.H. Harriman or Cornelius Vanderbilt trying to police other people’s every thought, word and deed. The invasive and ever-expanding tentacular reach of techno-fascists or in this fictional case Techno-Tyrants would make these villains a very credible threat to political freedom and freedom of expression. SABO: GUERILLA ART AT ITS FINEST

sabo on zuckerberg and schumerStreet Artist Sabo has earned genuine folk hero status with his guerilla art projects that he sets up in public, often under the cover of darkness, in various cities. Daylight unveils his masterpieces of dissent. Sabo takes on the subjects that too many faux iconoclasts are afraid to handle, most recently the corporate fascist Mark “Skippy” Zuckerberg.

The guerilla artist simultaneously broached the way that Zuckerberg’s ties to just one political party are a clear conflict of interest (Chuck Schumer’s daughter works there as just one example of dozens) and should call for regulation of Facebook as a public utility. The baby-faced Techno-Tyrant Zuck has a well-deserved name for politically motivated,  one-way enforcement of Facebook/ Fakebook’s supposed “Community Standards.”

Sabo on HillarySince ANY Facebook user can block anybody or anything they want, such heavy-handed interference with the free exchange of ideas is as unnecessary as it is ugly. (Personally I left Facebook years ago since it’s like being trapped in the suburban barbecue from hell.)

Scandals about Facebook’s violation of users’ privacy have provided even more reason to be suspicious of the organization. Go to Gab.ai or Steemit.com or any of the other sites out there. They aren’t yet the obnoxious corporate cesspool that Facebook has long been. Continue reading

QUOTES TO PONDER: APRIL 4th

hippy“WHO KNOWS ONLY THEIR OWN GENERATION REMAINS ALWAYS A CHILD.” – That quote from George Norlin has multiple layers of meaning but to me it always brings to mind those self-infatuated fools from the 1960s generation who remain perpetual children.

I’m not referring to the truly talented and capable members of that generation who went on to many real-world accomplishments, but the worst, most shrill elements of that generation who – as stated above – remained perpetual children.

They distorted liberalism into a philosophy that was critical ONLY of the western world and distorted the educational system into a realm of prolonged adolescence. A realm in which they are perpetually self-righteous and immature, petulantly demanding agreement with their shallow, simple-minded views on complex issues.

(Notice how they have to keep going younger and younger to find unformed minds that actually agree with their juvenile attitudes. They’ll be pushing the vote for 13 year olds before you know it.)

Even worse is the way they remade the educational system (LMAO) into nothing but a vehicle for browbeating their students into agreeing with every one of their increasingly outdated political opinions.

“WE CAN’T TRUST FACEBOOK TO REGULATE ITSELF.” – This was said by a former Facebook manager who was among the many experienced figures coming forward in recent months regarding the mammoth abuses of Facebook aka the Confirmation Bias Community. Continue reading
