HITTITE MYTHOLOGY: THE TOP DEITIES

It’s been awhile since Balladeer’s Blog visited Hittite myths so here we go.

Hittite empireThe Hittite Empire spread throughout Anatolia, covering a large part of what is now Turkey and Syria as well as some parts far eastward and southward of there (accounts vary). The scarce remains of the texts regarding the deities worshipped by the Hittites are tantalizingly fragmentary but reflect and/or influenced myths from Mesopotamia across the west to ancient Greece and south to Canaanite territory.

ARANZAH – The god of the body of water that bore his name – the Aranzah River. The Aranzah is better known as the Tigris, which begins its journey southward from the Taurus Mountains in what is now eastern Turkey. This deity was a brother of the storm god Tarhun (Teshub to the Hurrians) and like him was born in the belly of the god Kumarbi.

ISTUSTAYA and PAPAYA – The Hittite goddesses of destiny. The two deities sat by the shores of the Black Sea where they would spin the threads that are each mortal’s destiny, taking special care with the fates of kings. The two left their seaside location only for special occassions like conferences of all the gods. Collectively the two were called the Gulses by the Hittites and the Hutena by the Hurrians. The ancient Greeks added a third to their number and called them the Morae (Fates).    Continue reading

ADAM WARLOCK: THE MAGUS, PART SIX

magus on throneBalladeer’s Blog’s examination of another old, old, OLD Marvel Comics hit continues.

FOR PART ONE PLUS A RECAP OF ADAM WARLOCK’S FICTIONAL HISTORY CLICK HERE

Magus 6PART SIX

Warlock #10 (December 1975)

Title: THE REDEMPTION PRINCIPLE

NOTE: This installment of The Magus features what the late Stan Lee might have called “the senses-shattering ORIGIN of GAMORA!!!”

Synopsis: We are rapidly approaching the final installment of Marvel Comics’ hybrid of Young Adult Science Fiction and superhero story. Recapping last issue’s mind-boggling developments regarding Adam Warlock and his vile future self the Magus would require several hundred words, thus blocking the dramatic flow, so I will simply pepper in relevant details as needed.

Adam WarlockWe pick up right where we left off last time: Room #7, Sub-Level 2 of the Sacred Palace, headquarters of the Magus’ galaxy-spanning Universal Church of Truth. The Magus, that Church’s self-proclaimed god, not only defeated Warlock and Pip the Troll but also thwarted Gamora’s attempt to kill him with her God-Slayer Knife.

Gamora’s mysterious (to 1975 readers) master turned out to be Thanos, not as dead as the Avengers thought he was at the end of the Thanos War in July of 1974. Thanos teleported himself to Gamora’s side to continue trying to prevent the Magus (a potential rival) from ever existing (see the previous installment).

GamoraThe Magus had left Room #7, Sub-Level 2 after defeating Adam, Gamora and Pip, and thus is not aware that Thanos is involved. With Gamora’s interference having already altered the Magus’ past as he remembered experiencing it as Adam Warlock, the mad “deity” sent a legion of his Black Knights of the Church to attack the survivors in Room #7, Sub-Level 2 to prevent any further significant changes. TRUMP’S REBEL ALLIANCE GOES ON THE ATTACK: CLARICE FELDMAN’S BRILLIANT PIECE

rogue-won-2nd-picDe facto Third Party President Donald Trump continues to confound the two gangs of white-collar criminals called Democrats and Republicans. This unlikeliest hero of them all has helped the working class and poor of all colors despite the overwhelming odds against him.

Recently even the Democrat outlet The New York Times was forced to admit to the size of the tax cuts President Trump brought to the middle class. And the Democrats’ Illegal Immigrant Colonies that call themselves “Sanctuary Cities” (How Orwellian) showed their hypocrisy. They like enough illegal immigrants on hand for voter fraud (“vote harvesting”) purposes but beyond that Democrats raged at the thought of the recent flood of illegal immigrants actually being brought into their political fiefdoms so that Democrats can experience the suffering that border cities endure from illegal immigration.

At any rate courageous Clarice Feldman, a strong woman and a positive female role model for an entire generation (I know, right?) wrote a terrific piece titled Trump’s Rebel Alliance Attacks The Left’s Death Star. Feldman wrote and also quoted from other sources. The link is below, but first some excerpts:

Trump on Offense“… this week the President and the rebel alliance cracked through the Democrats’ Death Star of lies , deceit, and unpunished illegalities.”

“It was fun to watch, and I think it’s just begun.”

” Juliette Akinyi Ochieng – Conservatives who are black have been speaking out for a long time. But the House Republicans finally invited one — Candace Owens, a fine speaker and advocate for conservatism — and, thereby, provided a spotlight. That House Democrats made fools of themselves was mere icing. And it was sweet. We should all rejoice in this.” … “The video of her (Candace’s) feat on C-Span received more hits than any other Twitter/CSpan video.”

Maxine Waters“Congresswoman Maxine Waters and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand

This could be termed a double-header act.

Maxine Waters, Chair of the House Financial Services Committee, grilled bank officials on the student loan program, forgetting that a decade ago Obama nationalized the program, something she had twice voted for.

And if that doesn’t give you confidence in our elected elites, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, confused tactical nuclear weapons with tactile ones.”

FOOL KILLER: PART EIGHT – THE SOUTHERN LITERARY MESSENGER

Balladeer’s Blog continues its examination of the many facets of Fool Killer lore. FOR PART ONE, INCLUDING THE HISTORICAL CONTEXT, CLICK HERE

Fool Killer picPART EIGHT: The previous installment dealt with the last surviving Fool Killer Letter by Charles Napoleon Bonaparte Evans, Editor of the Milton Chronicle. That letter was from February of 1879.

This time I’ll go back to look at another Civil War-era reference to the Fool Killer Letters, to an excerpt from an 8th Letter which has not survived and to a publication running their own list of figures they’d like to see the Fool Killer slay.

Southern Literary MessengerIn 1862 the Southern Literary Messenger quoted from a Milton Chronicle Fool Killer Letter, but without an exact date and without the whole context it’s not sufficient to count it as an 8th surviving letter.

Before I get into the details of Jesse Holmes’ (The Fool Killer’s) murderous activities in this account I will briefly explain that this Southern Literary Messenger article seems to be the source of confusion regarding whether the Fool Killer began his famous Civil War hibernation period in 1861 or 1862.   Continue reading

BIGOTED DEMOCRAT TARGETS HISPANIC AMERICAN WOMAN FOR SUPPORTING TRUMP

Paloma for TrumpIt’s no secret that Democrats have become the new Nazis, despite their tendency to project their own fascist feelings onto the people who courageously oppose them. Just one of the latest examples involved a bigoted Democrat attack on Paloma Zuniga at a Post Office in Chula Vista.

Luckily the heroic Ms Zuniga recorded the hate-filled assault on her. Continue reading
