Balladeer’s Blog continues its examination of the many facets of Fool Killer lore. FOR PART ONE, INCLUDING THE HISTORICAL CONTEXT, CLICK HERE
PART ELEVEN: MORE MELUNGEON VARIATIONS
In the previous installment I took a look at the Melungeon origin myth for the Fool Killer and the way it bore some resemblance to a figure from Portuguese folk tales that the so-called “Hill Portughee” brought with them. That tale also dealt with the creation of the club/ walking stick/ cudgel that the Fool Killer carried with him in many of his incarnations.
I finished off with the legends of the Fool Killer slaying “fools” who entered the East Tennessee Hills intent on mining or stealing Melungeon gold.
MELUNGEON VARIATION TWO: We’ll pick up this time with more of the oral traditions which supposedly started in the late 1830s or 1840s but weren’t set down in writing until the 1880s and later so there’s no way of verifying when they really began.
The area covered was still Eastern Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia and North Carolina. The Fool Killer roamed those regions, wielding his iron club/ walking stick/ cudgel topped with a skull crafted from Melungeon gold.
By now his mission had evolved to killing foolish Federal agents sent into the hills to try to shut down what Washington, DC saw as the “counterfeit” minting of gold coins by the Melungeons. The Fool Killer finished off any Feds that he caught confiscating those coins from merchants or arresting said merchants. Continue reading

By the time most people are out of their 20s they shrug off the immature and insecure preoccupation with how “intellectual” they supposedly are. American leftists are perpetual children so they never outgrow that pompous, boorish pose.
Just as American Conservatives have hopelessly politicized the word “patriot” to the point where it’s meaningless, American Liberals have hopelessly politicized the word “intellectual” to the point where it is meaningless, too. Conservatives will describe someone as a “patriot” IF that person mindlessly agrees with all their political views. Liberals will describe someone as an “intellectual” IF that person mindlessly agrees with all their political views.
In reality neither American Conservatives nor American Liberals are in any way fit to bestow labels like patriot and intellectual on anyone NOR are they fit to strip away such labels. Liberals are hilarious the way they pretend that even semi-literate movie stars and singers are “intellectual” as long as they unquestioningly spout Liberal dogma. American Liberals simultaneously pretend that even people who have multiple degrees are “dumb” if they hold opinions that the mindless conformists of liberalism disagree with.
Take for instance George Clooney. He dropped out of college but because he zealously spouts nothing but liberal talking points the American Left considers him “intellectual”. On the other hand if he was a Hollywood celebrity who dropped out of college and who expressed opinions that American Liberals disagree with he would be mocked and ridiculed as “an uneducated white American”.
American Liberals are such pretentious fools they even made fun of “the kind of college” that Sarah Palin graduated from. Even people like me who criticized Palin couldn’t help but laugh at that hypocrisy given how Liberals were conveniently forgetting how so many of the entertainers they revere as deep thinkers never went to college at all or even may have dropped out of high school (like Susan Sarandon).
That is why length of education has never been a true indicator of intelligence anyway, but this attitude of Liberals perfectly illustrates their pompous snobbery and their tiresome status anxiety. Plenty of American Liberals are terrified that people might think they aren’t “intellectual” if they dare to be individuals rather than conform to the latest Liberal talking points.
This bizarre fusion of Machiavelli and Marx could be paraphrased like this: “Many in the working class were prevented from completing formal education due to various factors, and this has left them insecure about their intellect. This insecurity can be used to keep them in line by praising them as intellectuals as long as they conform to Liberal dogma but dismissing them as uneducated if they deviate from such dogma.”
Another laughable quality about American Liberals and this aspect of their insecurity is the way they immerse themselves only in television shows, movies and news outlets that reinforce their prejudiced – and hilarious – notion that they are the country’s intelligentsia.
Readers who often email me asking if I’m a secret Liberal can use this as proof that I’m not a Liberal just as I’m not a Conservative. If I was an American Liberal I would pretentiously act like my various odd and obscure interests made me more intelligent than other people. In reality I think words like “intellectual” and “patriotic” are not universally definable and will always be subject to each person’s individual opinions, similar to words like “beauty” or “justice”. Balladeer’s Blog continues its coverage of the world’s OLDEST team sport. Polo was already centuries old when Alexander the Great’s men played it! FOR MY PRIMER ON POLO CLICK HERE
ROUND THREE, DAY ONE: FIRST MATCH – ICONICA VS LA INDIANA. In this Match Iconica – Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: The Creators – rode against La Indiana – Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: The Indians.
I often praise Polo for the way men and women can play on the same team. In this Match Maureen Brennan rode into action as part of Iconica’s foursome.
The Creators put the ball between the Uprights 3 times in the First Chukker, compared to the 1 lone Goal mustered by the Indians. In the Second Chukker La Indiana outscored their opponents 2 Goals to 1 to pull within 4-3.
Chukker Number Three saw the Indians shut out Iconica while swatting in another Goal for themselves, producing a 4-4 tie at Halftime. Continue reading

The biggest regret of my life is that I used to belong to the increasingly deranged party of the Democrats. I became an Independent voter long ago and I’m glad to see other former Democrats taking to social media with their stories about why they decided to #WALKAWAY.
Ever since the release of the Mueller Report further debunked the already absurd Russian Collusion and “obstruction” (LMAO) fantasies of the Democrats they have frothed at the mouth and proceeded as if the exact opposite happened. People who still rant and rave about collusion and obstruction are as idiotic as people who claimed Obama was “a Muslim sleeper agent” or say that aliens abduct them on a nightly basis.
Democrat lunacy aside, that Party of slavery, the Ku Klux Klan, Jim Crow, Japanese Internment, The Trail of Tears and so much more continues to pile on the abhorrent behavior. Links are below but for just a handful of the latest Democrat atrocities:
*** Democrats have now labeled the police “The Blue Klux Klan.”
*** Democrats now push antisemitism fanatically, led by hatemongers like Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib.
*** Democrats now move to have candidates they don’t like kept off of state ballots.
*** Democrats do that while continuing to fight legal efforts to stop their vote fraud travesty called “vote harvesting.” Continue reading

ROUND TWO, DAY FIVE: FIRST MATCH – EQUULEUS VS COCA COLA. Equuleus – Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: The Constellations – rode into action against Coca Cola: Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: The Red Colossus.
I often praise the way both women and men can play on the same team in Polo. Gillian Johnston was part of Coca Cola’s foursome and scored 3 Goals in this Match.
In the First Chukker the Red Colossus dominated on both sides of the ball, notching 4 Goals while limiting the Constellations to just 1. The Second Chukker saw the two teams score 2 Goals each, making the new tally 6-3 with Coca Cola on top.
Equuleus fought back to within 1 in the Third Chukker, putting 3 goals between the Uprights to the 1 mustered by their opponents. The Red Colossus held a mere 7-6 edge come Halftime. Continue reading

Concluding Balladeer’s Blog’s examination of another old, old, OLD Marvel Comics hit.
FOR PART ONE PLUS A RECAP OF ADAM WARLOCK’S FICTIONAL HISTORY CLICK HERE
PART SEVEN (Conclusion)
Warlock #11 (February 1976)
Title: HOW STRANGE MY DESTINY
Synopsis: Resuming where we left off, the Magus (Adam Warlock’s vile future self and the self-proclaimed god worshipped by the galaxy-spanning Universal Church of Truth) has created a teleportational rift leading from the Sacred Palace of the Church to the interior of Thanos’ space station called Sanctuary.
Through that rift the Magus leads General Egeus and the entire army of the Black Knights of the Church, super-powered beings from countless planets never before featured in Marvel Comics up to this point. (This makes them forerunners of the Shi’Ar Imperial Guard over at The Uncanny X-Men.)
We readers know from the end of the previous installment that the Magus suspected that Thanos wanted him to attack, since he had dropped Sanctuary‘s defensive shields. However, even if he’s playing into the Mad Titan’s hands, the Magus had no alternative but to attack since his viewscreens showed him that Thanos and Warlock were about to use a Time Probe to try and prevent the Magus from ever coming into being.
As the Magus and his Black Knights pour through the teleportational rift the self-proclaimed god orders his knights to kill Thanos, Gamora and Pip the Troll but leave Adam Warlock to him.
The villain intends to finish off Thanos if he can, but most importantly he needs for the battle to prevent Warlock from entering the Time Probe long enough for the In-Betweener to arrive and abduct Adam to his dimension. There, over the course of 5,000 years Warlock will be tortured into becoming the Magus.
As this final chapter opens we are told there is less than one Earth hour left before the In-Betweener arrives. Continue reading
