The stereotype of the Ugly American was at its height during the years of Eisenhower’s America in the 1950s. The image was that of a nose-in-the-air Yankee convinced that they knew best for the rest of the world and that all other people should stand in awe of “American Exceptionalism” (LMAO) and try to imitate all things American. 
This review is especially relevant to the insanity of the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign and the increasingly open hostility between the voters and the ugly criminals who hold elected office.
