Forget the stories written by the usual science fiction pioneers like Jules Verne and H.G. Wells. This list will examine some of the nascent works of science fiction going back to before the world at large even used those words to describe this emerging genre. Though technically this examination could begin as far back as 150 C.E. with the Greek philosopher Lucian’s works like Icaromenippus and True History – both involving journeys to the moon via man-made craft – I will instead begin in the 1600s and move on to the early 20th Century.
10. SOMNIUM (1634) – Written by Johannes Kepler. Yes, this is THE Johannes Kepler the famed astronomer so this may be the earliest work of proto-science fiction written by a figure with a grounding in something approaching our own notions of rational science.
Somnium depicted a fictional visit to the moon with story details based very loosely on observations Kepler had made while observing Earth’s natural satellite through a telescope – a fairly new device at the time.
Kepler’s work depicted the moon as a celestial body of extremes which was bisected into two regions of blazing heat and freezing cold. Nights on the moon were very mild on the side facing Earth because of the amount of reflected sunlight that our planet sends its way. Believe it or not life existed in this world of extremes – reptilian creatures which lived in caves and breathed in the lunar atmosphere. Kepler also depicted plant life – cone-shaped vegetation which went through its entire life-cycle within two weeks.
Fearing the type of persecution that Galileo had faced Kepler never published Somnium during his lifetime and even wrote it in Latin accompanied by copious technical footnotes, possibly to try to disguise it as a thesis. Even though Kepler’s story came out posthumously he might have been spared any persecution for his Copernican views even if he had published it earlier since he took the precaution of explaining the lunar journey away as a mere dream (the meaning of the word “somnium”).
9. THE MAN IN THE MOONE (1638) – Written by Bishop Francis Godwin. The Man in the Moone depicted Godwin’s fictional hero Domingo Gonsales who trained a huge flock of specially-bred swans to transport him to the moon. The book was written in the style of the accounts that the great nautical explorers of the age wrote of their travels and is often considered the first science fiction story written in English.
Despite the tale’s thoroughly unscientific method of reaching the moon Gonsales dealt with sensations of weightlessness on his space journey in a nicely prescient bit. Godwin came very close to stating a theory of gravity even before Isaac Newton! In a nod to Dante’s Divine Comedy from centuries earlier the story also featured some of the spirits of deceased humans inhabiting the space between worlds.

Promoting race-hatred is nothing new for Democrats. The Democrats defended slavery, fought for its expansion in the new territories as the nation expanded and even waged a civil war for the economic interests of wealthy Democrat slave-owners. After that war was lost the Democrats formed the Ku Klux Klan and politically continued harassing freed black people for a century following the war.
Despite all that Democrats pompously lecture the rest of the country about the legacy of THEIR obsession with preserving slavery. Worst of all is Hillary “Bugsy” Clinton, an outright criminal who has disgustingly used a fraudulent “charity” to amass obscene wealth. Hillary goes beyond attacking her opponent Donald Trump and accuses his supporters of being (yaaawn) racists and “stupid” for being part of the working class.
“We’re the party of slavery, the Ku Klux Klan and Jim Crow but Americans foolishly let US get away with lecturing THEM about racism!”
Countless black people support Trump and that TERRIFIES the Democrats. One of the pillars of their organization has been the pretense that “real” black people support Democrats. Increasing numbers of voters of color have been breaking away from the party of slavery, the Klan and Jim Crow.
And rightfully so. The Democrats race-bait just to win elections but the only people of color who benefit are professional hatemongers like Al Sharpton and others like him who play along with the Democratic Party’s pretense that they “care” about black voters. Sharpton and his ilk are the “beards” that the Democrats use to attack black people who decide they can vote for ANY candidates they please and that they don’t need the approval of Democrats to do it.
It can all be summed up like this:

In the final third of the 20th Century the power and money people of the Democratic Party began developing a very proprietary, some would say condescending, attitude toward African-Americans. The 1960s generation of American Liberals in particular had often treated the lives and history of African-Americans as a kind of hobby.
These patronizing dilettantes originally demonstrated a protective, or at least supportive, attitude toward African-Americans, who in turn rewarded the Democratic Party’s candidates with almost unanimous support.
However, as the decades wore on and African-Americans had greater opportunities open up to them many of them began making up their own minds about what political attitudes they would embrace and what political candidates they would support. Democrats: Muslims who don’t hate the Western World are useless to us!
The close-minded people who pretend to be American Liberals love to act like they’re “defending Muslims” by objecting to the marking of 9-11. In their eyes ONLY Muslims who hate the West are “authentic.”
You’ll never see self-adoring, virtue-signalling Leftist demagogues doing photo ops with Muslims who came to America to GET AWAY from the suffocating oppression of the Muslim World and the endless wars which Muslim groups have been waging against each other for over a thousand years.
Muslims are the new toys of the pompous, condescending Liberals (more like fascists) of the Western World. The ONLY Muslims who are useful to them are Muslims who say that America is “Islamophobic” (Oh, NO WONDER they want to come here in such large numbers and no wonder the number of mosques in the U.S. has more than tripled since the 9-11 attacks) or (yaaaawn) racist (Islam is not a race).

You will NEVER see the political media giving air-time to Muslims who want to say “The West is not our enemy” or “Actually I find it fascinating to interact with so many non-Muslims. It’s really opened my mind.” and ESPECIALLY not “I came to America so my daughters can have more freedoms and pursue their own dreams.”
The latest worn-out expression from the gutless zombies of American Liberalism or “Libero-fascism” is Western Triumphalism. Any and all Muslims who DON’T hate America or other Western nations get dismissed by the left-wing parties as Western Triumphalists who have “internalized Western Oppression.”
As always with the barely human robots of the political left members of ANY group they decide belongs to them can NOT be “the authentic voices” of that group UNLESS they express hatred of the U.S. and the U.K. etc. Oh, and unless they show mindlesss, unquestioning allegiance to the Democratic Party (U.S.) or Labour Party (U.K.).
Sadly those Muslims who flee the constant conflicts of the Middle East (which has been a war-torn mess ever since Islam entered the picture and destroyed enlightened Arab cultures) are the ones who have to hide from public exposure lest they be targeted by the violent Muslim fanatics. Ironically the Left’s approach mostly hurts the Muslims they pretend to be helping.
And I repeat the Muslim World has been a mess for OVER A THOUSAND YEARS! They ran the African slave trade before Europeans got around to it. They were a brutal, blood-soaked Colonial Empire even earlier than the European Colonial powers were.
Islam spread through blood and violence like all religions do. Islam expanded from the area of the Arabian Peninsula to subjugate most of Africa, several nations of Europe and also spread eastward as far as the Philippines. A variety of colorful figures have served as Secretaries of State. Many of them may not be household names here in the 21st Century but they would definitely stand out on any staff. Here is an examination of sixteen such figures in chronological order.
1. TIMOTHY PICKERING (1795-1800)
Served under: Presidents George Washington and John Adams
Noted for: Conspiring with Alexander Hamilton to undermine some of the policies of the Washington and Adams administrations. When Adams discovered this he ordered Pickering to resign, but Pickering refused, forcing Adams to fire him. Pickering remains the only Secretary of State to officially be fired by the President.
2. HENRY CLAY (1825-1829)

JULY 4TH, 1778 – George Rogers Clark led his rebel forces in taking the British stronghold of Kaskaskia, near the confluence of the Mississippi and Kaskaskia Rivers. Clark and his Rangers were on a mission for then-Virginia Governor Patrick Henry.
JULY 4TH, 1783 – The Massachusetts Supreme Court is finalizing its written decision holding that slavery has been illegal in the state since adoption of the Massachusetts Declaration of Rights in 1780.

The Fourth of July is rapidly approaching! Some people get puzzled about the actual Thirteen Original Colonies of America. They know for instance that Daniel Morgan’s Kentucky Rifles were one of the most storied units of the war and saw action from Canada to the American South. Yet, Kentucky is not listed as one of the original colonies.
