PUTTING A CRIMP IN SENIOR DAY – The NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY GOTHIC KNIGHTS handed their hosts – the WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY PIONEERS – a split in the Senior Day Double Header they played. After losing the first game 15-12 the Gothic Knights trailed 4-3 in the 2nd Inning of Game Two. The NJCU bats tied the game at 4-4 in the 3rd Inning on their way to a 9-4 lead by the 6th. From there the Gothic Knights held on for a 9-7 win. NJCU Pitcher Kevin Demauro went an Iron Man 9 Innings for the victory. Continue reading

Balladeer’s Blog resumes its examination of the macabre 1868 French language work The Songs of Maldoror.
THE ENVENOMED WEAPON
Our supernatural narrator Maldoror, fresh off canonizing lice as deities in his demented personal pantheon now enshrines three goddesses in his fevered belief system. Those goddesses are Arithmetic, Algebra and Geometry.
He praises their perfection and their dispassionate aloofness. He admires the way in which there is no deceiving them nor escaping them, since they set the very rules of the universe. Maldoror metaphorically describes his first encounter with them as if they were three beautiful women who summoned him to them in his youth, when he groped and molested them while discerning their secrets. MERINA MYTHOLOGY: TOMPONDRANO
The French who first came into contact with the people of Madagascar mistook Tompondrano for Leviathan from Christian mythology.
TOMPONDRANO – “Lord of the waters.” The supreme snake deity in Merina mythology. Not only were all other serpents subordinate to Tompondrano but he often acted as an ambassador between snakes and human beings, negotiating the end to conflicts between the two groups.
A major myth about this deity includes its role in advising the Vazimba how to use sacrifices to appease gods and demons. The Vazimba were little people who were previously the dominant race of Madagascar. They are similar to the Menehune in Hawaiian myths and to “little people” who figure into mythology and folklore from around the world. Continue reading

PRAYERS TO THE GODS CALLED LICE
The supernatural being Maldoror devotes this stanza to waxing rhapsodic about lice. Yes, actual lice. For the most part the demented yet brilliant figure does this as a wry mockery of religion itself but mixes in some of his own depraved acts of violence for some extra spice to the story.
His first prayer to the gods called lice praises them as powerful deities who could grow to the size of elephants and crush all animal life on earth if not for the offerings of blood that lice are given from the hair or fur of us beasts. This prayer calls lice the most esteemed of life forms, worthy of using the heads of mankind as their thrones. Continue reading

The world of 1980.
Before MST3K there was … The Texas 27 Film Vault! In the middle 1980s, way down on Level 31 Randy Clower and Richard Malmos, machine-gun toting Film Vault Technicians First Class hosted this neglected cult show. Balladeer’s Blog continues its celebration of the program’s 30th anniversary year.
ORIGINAL BROADCAST DATE: Saturday January 3rd, 1987 from 10:30pm to 1:00am.
SERIAL: None. This week the movie, commercials and Host Segments filled the entire two and a half hour running time.
FILM VAULT LORE: Just Imagine is one of the movies referenced on The Texas 27 Film Vault 3-D poster from 1987.

THE MOVIE: Just Imagine was one of those true oddities that The Texas 27 Film Vault’s format was perfect for. This uproariously campy sci-fi relic started with a comparison of life in America in 1880 and 1930, the year the movie was released. From there it provided a speculative tale about life 50 more years in the “future” of 1980. The lame special effects, failed predictions about the future, typically stiff acting for a 1930 effort and – worst of all – a few unbearable SONGS make this a true Bad Movie Classic deserving of a Plan 9– sized cult following. ISLAMIC STATE TERRORIST ARRESTS MADE IN SAN DIEGO AND MINNEAPOLIS
Nancy Pelosi, the poster child for having way too much plastic surgery, thinks the U.S. should withdraw from San Diego and Minneapolis.
Six male Muslims were arrested in San Diego and Minneapolis in anti-terrorist raids on Sunday. The men were seized for attempting to aid the Islamic Republic, which was spawned by Barack Obama’s premature withdrawal from Iraq.
Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats immediately came forward and said “This proves America needs to withdraw from San Diego and Minneapolis. The longer we stay there we are just driving more and more Muslims into the arms of the Islamofascists. No more blood for oil! We MUST withdraw! If we weren’t in San Diego or Minneapolis those Muslims would not hate us. It is the policy of the Democratic Party that the United States will NEVER win another armed conflict ever again. Oh, and by the way WE’RE the real terrorists.”
The decrepit 1960’s generation of American Liberals expressed agreement. A spokesperson for that vain and self-centered generation said “We don’t know anything about history except the Vietnam War. Withdrawing from Vietnam seemed to end that conflict so our solution to EVERY war for the rest of eternity will always be ‘Withdraw, withdraw, withdraw!’ The only reason America is in San Diego and Minneapolis is because of imperialism and racism. Therefore, our generation will ALWAYS support the Muslim freedom fighters who want America out of San Diego and Minneapolis. Did I mention we protested the Vietnam War?” Continue reading
