CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The 4 seeds – the LEWIS-CLARK STATE WARRIORS – faced the top seeded FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES for the NAIA title in college baseball. Runs piled up til it seemed like a Polo Match score as the Warriors and Eagles were tied at 2-2 in the 2nd Inning and 3-3 in the 4th. Faulkner U went on top 7-6 in the 5th Inning but Lewis-Clark State overtook them for a 12-7 advantage in the 6th.
That became just a 12-8 Warriors lead in the 7th Inning and that’s where things stood until the bottom of the 9th when the Eagles pulled to within 12-11 before falling. Pitcher Quin Grogan notched the Win as LCSC picked up its 18th baseball crown. * THE WARRIORS ARE THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS OF NAIA BASEBALL * Continue reading

LIMPANG-TUNG: GOD OF PEGANA

Gods of Pegana
Lord Dunsany’s 1905 book The Gods of Pegana and its 1906 followup, Time and the Gods, are forgotten masterpieces of comparative mythology which introduced the author’s pantheon of fictional deities. Though neglected today Dunsany’s work inspired authors from H.P. Lovecraft to J.R.R. Tolkein to C.S. Lewis. (But oddly, NOT e.e. cummings, A.A. Milne or J.K. Rowling.)
LIMPANG-TUNG – The god of comedy, drama, music and all the other creative arts. Limpang-Tung thrived on providing humanity with distractions to take their minds off the inevitability of death. The sky was his canvas on which he painted forever-changing patterns of clouds and the events of the world were both a tragedy and a farce depicting the ultimate futility of human endeavor. WAVELENGTH (1983): MICRO-REVIEW
WAVELENGTH (1983) – This is an unjustly neglected science fiction film that stars Robert Carradine, Cherie Currie and Keenan Wynn in a very unconventional love triangle: both Carradine and Currie are fighting over Wynn. (I’m kidding!)
Robert Carradine plays a moody musician suffering a career lull, Cherie Currie portrays a groupie who becomes a bona fide romantic partner for him and Keenan Wynn barks and snarls in his usual “grouch with a heart of gold” manner. Cherie’s sensitive mind is open to alien brain-waves calling to her from a nearby (seemingly) abandoned government installation. Carradine and his neighbor Wynn help her try to find out what’s going on. Continue reading
