RICH LITTLE’S CHRISTMAS CAROL (1979)

https://i0.wp.com/www.vinylvendors.com/Pictures/r/i/richlittle108386.jpgIf you’re into celebrity trivia from the 1970’s and earlier Rich Little’s Christmas Carol will have you laughing from start to finish over all the sly jokes and riffs that abound in this Canadian- made special. For those unfamiliar with Little he was the Frank Caliendo of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, a first- class celebrity impressionist. The Canadian comic’s first venture into using the voices and personas of iconic celebrities as characters in the Charles Dickens classic began in the 1960’s. Part of Rich’s stand-up act was a several minute sendup of A Christmas Carol with John Wayne, Jack Benny and other figures playing roles in the famous story.

In 1979 Little expanded the story into an hour-long television special in which, through the aid of trick photography, costumes and makeup, he impersonated all of the entertainment legends that he worked into the Yuletide epic. Here is a rundown of the celebrities that Rich Little appeared as in this enjoyable Christmas special:

For the central role of Ebenezer Scrooge Little impersonated W.C. Fields, the whiskey- soaked and curmudgeonly comedian whose misanthropic humor made his persona perfect for the role. Little impersonated Hollywood Squares mainstay Paul “The JM J Bullock of his time” Lynde in the role of Bob Cratchit and long-time Tonight Show host Johnny Carson as the cheerful and charming Nephew Fred. Rich did a turn as Laurel and Hardy as the Charity Solicitors to Continue reading

IF BARACK OBAMA HANDLED PEARL HARBOR

"If any of your loved ones died at Pearl Harbor THEY HAD IT COMING!"

“If any of your loved ones died at Pearl Harbor THEY HAD IT COMING!”

Welcome back to Balladeer’s Blog, the only site on the web that criticizes both Liberals and Conservatives equally. Even for a sleazy Chicago politician Barack Obama has been caught in an unending avalanche of lies from his campaign biography to all the outrageous untruths that have characterized his entire term in office.

This weak, inept and crooked little man has been caught in lie after lie after lie and has outdone even Nixon in terms of scandals and Harding in terms of corruption. Obama’s incompetence has earned him a name as the Worst U.S. President in History. That plus his general “masochism as foreign policy” approach made me decide to run with a Balladeer’s Blog look at how this Democratic version of Richard Nixon might have handled the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941.

For starters Little Barry would have been too busy with golfing, fundraisers and tentative spin doctoring to even address the nation until sometime around January 24th, 1942. And that’s being optimistic.

” My fellow Americans, I speak to you today as a special guest on the Fibber McGee and Molly radio show. I am addressing you this evening about the Continue reading

Eisenhower34. DWIGHT EISENHOWER – Motto: “FOOORE!” (Remember, the traditional cry as you’re teeing off in golf? Oh, never mind!) *** Nickname: Uncle Milty *** Pro: Knew enough to distrust Richard Nixon long before it became the national pasttime.  Con: Was the first president to pronounce nuclear as “nucular”.

35. JOHN F KENNEDY – Motto: “Thank God for television!” *** Nickname: FDR *** Pro: The man was shrewd enough to distrust both liberals and conservatives equally.  Con: Continue reading

PRESIDENTIAL PROS AND CONS FROM BALLADEER’S BLOG: HARRISON TO OBAMA

23. BENJAMIN HARRISON – Motto: “What this country needs right now is a man whose grandfather was president  barely a month before dying.” *** Nickname: Baby McKee’s Grandfather *** Pro: Was the  president who first had the White House wired for electricity.  Con: His administration was slightly overshadowed by the press’ obsession with his terminally “cutesy” grandson, Baby McKee.

24. GROVER CLEVELAND, TERM 2 – Motto: “He’s back … deadlier and more powerful than ever before!” ***  Nickname: King of the Wild Frontier *** Pro: Was 10 % doughier than in his first term.  Con: Came down harder on striking workers than some presidents come down on actual criminal behavior and called Eugene Debs “an enemy of the human race”.

25. WILLIAM MCKINLEY – Motto: “Whatever Ohio Political Machine Boss Mark Hanna thinks my motto should be.” *** Nickname: McStudly *** Pro: Tried to establish a Continue reading

CAROL-A-THON 2012: RICH LITTLE’S CHRISTMAS CAROL (1979)

IF BARACK OBAMA HANDLED PEARL HARBOR

“Yeah, our Ambassador and others are dead, whatever. I’ve got a fundraiser in Las Vegas to get to! Just blame it on that Youtube video and see how that plays out.”

Welcome back to Balladeer’s Blog, the only Independent Voter site on the web that criticizes both Liberals and Conservatives equally. Even for a sleazy Chicago politician Barack Obama has been caught in an unending avalanche of lies from his campaign biography back in 2008 to all the outrageous untruths that have characterized his entire term in office. Last night even his usual shoeshine boy David Letterman pointed out what a liar Obama is and Jay Leno pointed out how Obama has crippled the American economy.

The weak, inept and crooked little man named Barack Obama has told lie after lie after lie about the Benghazi affair, and this, along with his general “masochism as foreign policy” approach made me decide to run with a Balladeer’s Blog look at how this Democratic version of Richard Nixon might have handled the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941.

(For starters Obama would have been too busy with fundraisers and tentative spin doctoring to even address the nation until sometime around January 24th, 1942. And that’s being optimistic since he still refuses to face the press – even the pro-Obama press – over his lies about Benghazi)

My fellow Americans, I speak to you today as a special guest on the Fibber McGee and Molly radio show. I am addressing you this evening about the Continue reading

SOPTIC TANK: OBAMA SLITHERS EVEN LOWER THAN RICHARD NIXON EVER DID

There’s a reason his initials are B.O.

Obama has shown once again that he is determined to be remembered in one breath with sleazy presidents like Republicans Richard Nixon and Warren G Harding.

Regular readers of Balladeer’s Blog know that I am an Independent Voter who criticizes both Liberal fools and Conservative fools equally and that I show no respect for any presidents of either party. (If you don’t believe me read my President’s Day look at all the men who have stayed one step ahead of the law while holding that office. )

PRESIDENTIAL RAP SHEETS: THE FIRST MILLION-DOLLAR RIPOFF

Regular readers of Balladeer’s Blog know that I think the idiotic attitude “my political party right or wrong” is every bit as stupid as the old attitude “my country right or wrong”. In my recent post about the ancient Greek political comedy titled Demoi I also pointed out the dangers of the cult of personality that surrounds many political figures. If you want a lighter way of looking at it, look at the contrast between the allegedly heroic deeds of the gunfighters of the Old West and the ugly reality of what those people actually did. They weren’t the courageous and noble figures they were painted to be in popular myth, but were crooks and/ or worse.

I view our politically elected officials the same way, especially the Presidents of the United States. Their worshipful devotees depict them as larger than life heroes saving the nation and/ or the world from equally extraordinary villains even though when examined closely we see that they were Continue reading
