COLLEGE BASEBALL TOP 25: WEEK OF MARCH 26TH – APRIL 1ST

 Basketball season is over in the divisions covered by Balladeer’s Blog, so it’s on to baseball! Seamheads have been emailing me about how anxious they are to start my coverage since the season’s over a month old for collegiate play.

As always I’ll cover baseball for colleges in the NAIA, D3, D2, USCAA, NCCAA, ACCA and NJCAA all the way up through the World Series in each division.

NCAA DIVISION 2 AND NJCAA BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES TODAY

 Today ends the 2011-2012 college basketball season for the divisions covered by Balladeer’s Blog. The final two championship games take place this afternoon and evening.

First up, the Western Washington University Vikings (logo above left) play the Montevallo Falcons at 1pm ET for the D2 title. Tonight at 9pm ET the NJCAA championship game features the South Plains College Texans taking on the NW Florida Raiders. The Continue reading

NJCAA BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT FINAL FOUR: MARCH 23RD

 Tonight the South Plains College Texans (logo at right), the Eastern Oklahoma Mountaineers, the Seward Saints and the NW Florida Raiders battle for the right to advance to tomorrow’s NJCAA Championship Game. NJCAA COLLEGE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT AND THE D2 FINAL FOUR: MARCH 22ND

SHINTO DEITY: KUYEBIKO

 Kuyebiko was the Shinto scarecrow god. NAIA BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT RESULTS – MARCH 14TH (UPDATED)

 The 9th- seeded Rogers State University Hillcats (logo at left) tipped off the NAIA Division 1 basketball tournament at 10am ET today. The Point Loma Nazarene University Sea Lions, the Life University Running Eagles and the top- seeded Shorter Hawks have also seen action so far.

ANCIENT GREEK COMEDY: ORE MINERS (C 420’s BCE)

 I had planned on examining another comedy by Cratinus for my next Ancient Greek Comedy post here at Balladeer’s Blog. Understandably my sister Rosemary’s hospitalization has changed quite a few things. She is out of the hospital now but needs more assistance than usual for a while so with the limited time I have available right now I figured it was better to do a brief take on the VERY fragmentary remains of Pherecrates’ comedy Ore Miners AKA Metalles.

THE PLAY

A group of ore miners accidentally dig so deep underground that they stumble upon the Netherworld. While there they observe the automatist Utopia that Pherecrates depicts the souls of the dead as dwelling in.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT ACTION: FEBRUARY 25TH

 Balladeer’s Blog’s February Frenzy continues! The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference climbs aboard today as their conference tournament tips off, featuring the top- seeded Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers (logo at right). Other teams  making the tournament field from the KIAC are the St Louis College of Pharmacy Eutectics, the Indiana East Red Wolves and many others.
