FIRST SEMIFINAL – The 6 seeds – the POINT LOMA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY SEA LIONS – took the court against the 7th seeded UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN INDIANA SCREAMING EAGLES. This battle royal had a Halftime score of 31-30 with the Sea Lions on top. From there Point Loma Nazarene University outscored their opponents 50-41 for an 81-71 victory. Twenty points from Daulton Hommes led the Sea Lions. Continue reading
NAIA DIVISION ONE
FIRST SEMIFINAL – The GEORGETOWN (KY) COLLEGE TIGERS and the WILLIAM CAREY UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS started things off. The Tigers seized control and by Halftime they were clobbering the Crusaders 42-24. From there Georgetown College simply had to keep WCU at arm’s length, which they did for a 94-83 triumph. Chris Coffey led the Tigers with his Double Double of THIRTY-TWO points and 12 rebounds. NCCAA DIV ONE
FINAL FOUR: FIRST BERTH – The 6th seeded BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS went up against the 3 seeds – the MID-AMERICA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EVANGELS.
The Rambling Rams were feeling it and put the Evangels on Upset Alert at Halftime with their 35-31 lead. After the break Bluefield College intensified their efforts, limiting Mid-America Christian University to just 27 points while putting up 39 themselves. The final score was Rambling Rams 74 Evangels 58. Seventeen points from Jermiah (middle name “sic”) Jenkins led Bluefield.
FINAL FOUR: SECOND BERTH – Up next the 2 seeds – the EMMANUEL COLLEGE LIONS – battled the 7th seeded COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS BOBCATS.
The 1st Half ended with the Lions clinging to a 39-34 edge. From there Emmanuel College kicked things up a notch on both sides of the ball, putting more and more distance between themselves and the Bobcats. In the end the Lions defeated the College of the Ozarks 80-63 led by Elijah Robinson’s 18 points. Continue reading

*** NCCAA DIVISION ONE ***
FINAL FOUR, FIRST BERTH – It took DOUBLE OVERTIME for a winner to be determined in this particular game. The 5 seeds – the GRACE COLLEGE LANCERS – took on the 4th seeded CENTRAL BAPTIST COLLEGE MUSTANGS.
At Halftime the two teams were tied at 33-33, then traded blow for blow and basket for basket again in the 2nd Half. Regulation ended with the score knotted up at 65-65 and the 1st Overtime session ended in a 72-72 deadlock. In the 2nd OT the Lancers at last emerged triumphant by a final score of 86-80. Grace College’s Erik Bowen and Logan Godfrey each notched a Double Double, Bowen with THIRTY-ONE points and 12 rebounds and Godfrey with 12 points and 12 boards of his own. Continue reading

FIRST SEMIFINAL – The SADDLEBACK COLLEGE GAUCHOS clashed with the FRESNO CITY COLLEGE RAMS in this game. The Gauchos’ weakness of occasional slow starts came back to haunt them again as they trailed the Rams 28-19 at Halftime.
Following the break Saddleback College came back to force Overtime with a 49-49 tie to end Regulation. In the OT session the Gauchos outscored Fresno City College 17-12 for a 66-61 victory. Lyle Hexom led Saddleback to the Championship Game with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Continue reading

FINAL FOUR: FIRST BERTH – The NorCal 3 seeds – the FRESNO CITY COLLEGE RAMS – had a hardcourt rumble with the NorCal 7 seeds – the CONTRA COSTA COLLEGE COMETS. The Rams dominated early and led the Comets 63-44 by Halftime. After the break Contra Costa College inched closer and closer to Fresno City College but their attempted rally fell short. The Rams won by a Century Club score of 100-89 led by B.J. Shelton with 27 points. Continue reading
FIRST SEMIFINAL – The 4 seeds – the MID-AMERICA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EVANGELS – got the action going last night with their game against the 6th seeded CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS. It was a tale of two Halves as the Evangels confidently built up a 55-44 lead by the break, but then had to hold on by their fingernails against a furious comeback attempt by the Tigers. The final score was Mid-America Christian University 93 Campbellsville University 89. Devonse Reed led the Evangels in scoring with his THIRTY points. Continue reading

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – Balladeer’s Blog’s college basketball coverage for the 2014-2015 season officially comes to a close with this final title game in the divisions covered here. The sole remaining 1 seed – the FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGE MOCCASINS – played the 3rd seeded INDIANA UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS. The Crimson Hawks had upset three other 1 seeds along the way (D2 has eight 1 seeds in its tournament) but the Moccasins proved to be too much for them. Continue reading

FINAL FOUR – GAME ONE – This semifinal game pitted two 1 seeds against each other – the FLORIDA SOUTHERN COLLEGE MOCCASINS and the BELLARMINE UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS. After an action-packed opening Half the Moccasins held a 40-36 lead over the Knights at the break. In the 2nd Half Florida Southern College withstood all the comeback efforts of Bellarmine University and walked away with a 79-76 victory. Dominique Williams led the Moccasins with his 22 points. FINAL FOUR – FIRST BERTH – This year four of D2’s eight 1 seeds advanced to these Quarterfinal games. (D2 starts with 8 Regions of 8 teams seeded 1-8) In this particular hardcourt clash the 3rd seeded INDIANA UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS toppled the 1 seeded AZUSA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY COUGARS. The Crimson Hawks were trailing the Cougars by just 33-31 at Halftime and after a brutal, hard-fought 2nd Half had defeated Azusa Pacific by a score of 69-65.
