COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS: MORE ACTION

Indiana University Northwest RedhawksROUND ONE, GAME ONE – The top seeds – the INDIANA UNIVERSITY NORTHWEST REDHAWKS – got a wake-up call from the 8th seeded LINCOLN CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY RED LIONS. The Redhawks seemed to have everything under control and led 57-40 come Halftime. After the break the Red Lions came storming back, with IUN holding on by their fingernails for a 96-91 win. Rashad Richardson’s 22 points led the Redhawks.

Washington Adventist University ShockROUND ONE, GAME TWO – In this contest the 2nd ranked WASHINGTON ADVENTIST UNIVERSITY SHOCK likewise got almost more than they could handle from the 7 seeds – the GREEN MOUNTAIN COLLEGE EAGLES (Should be the Verdant Eagles). The Shock were on top 37-30 at the midpoint but barely eked out a 75-74 victory in the face of a furious Green Mountain College rally. Desmond Stanback led the Shock with 19 points. Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE IN THE NAIA

Huntington College Foresters logoCROSSROADS LEAGUE – The upset of the evening last night came when the 8th seeded HUNTINGTON COLLEGE FORESTERS stunned the 1 seeds, the INDIANA WESLEYAN WILDCATS, by a score of 81-69. The Foresters faithful will be talking about this game for years to come!   ###   In the 7 spot the MARIAN KNIGHTS, the reigning NAIA football champions, likewise shocked the prognosticators by taking down the 2nd seeded GRACE COLLEGE LANCERS  62-54.   ###   The (3) BETHEL (IN) PILOTS (as in riverboat pilots) performed as expected, defeating the (6) ST FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS in an 89-73 affair.   ###   … And in the typically tight 5 vs 4 matchup the (5) TAYLOR TROJANS beat the (4) SPRING ARBOR COUGARS in a 70-62 upset.

menlo college oaks logoCALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE – In the opening round of the CPC tournament the 4th seeded MENLO COLLEGE OAKS let a healthy lead slip through their fingers, allowing the 5 seeds, the SIMPSON RED HAWKS, to force overtime. The Oaks emerged with a 111-103 victory in the extra session.   ###   … And the (3) UC- MERCED GOLDEN BOBCATS defeated the (6) PACIFIC UNION PIONEERS by a score of 73-54.   ###   The top 2 seeds had a bye in the first round, so on Friday the Golden Bobcats face the (2) CAL MARITIME ACADEMY  KEELHAULERS and the Oaks battle the Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT RESULTS FROM FEBRUARY 27TH

 As Balladeer’s Blog’s February Frenzy continues the Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers (logo at left) take on the Brescia Bearcats in tonight’s championship game in the KIAC. The winner gets the conference’s automatic bid to the NAIA’s National Tournament, which begins next Wednesday. FEBRUARY 25TH COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT RESULTS

 Balladeer’s Blog’s February Frenzy nearly saw three 1 seeds of conference tournament season take a fall yesterday. The Mid- Central College Conference’s 1 seed, the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats became this postseason’s first number 1 to be taken down. The (4) St Francis (IN) Cougars did the honors 78-65.

In the Association of Independent Institutions the top- seeded Jamestown College Jimmies (logo at right) survived a semifinal scare against the 4th- seeded Dickinson State Blue Hawks in a 71-70 Instant Classic. The Jimmies play the Dakota State Trojans in the championship game later today.

Meanwhile in the KCAC tournament the (4) Tabor College Blue Jays nearly brought down the (1) McPherson Bulldogs in a 68-66 thriller. 

In other action this has been pretty much The Year of the Seven Seeds. Last night the KIAC’s Asbury Eagles joined other 7th-seeded teams like the Lourdes University Gray Wolves and the Grand View Vikings in taking down their 2nd- seeded opponents.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT ACTION: FEBRUARY 25TH

 Balladeer’s Blog’s February Frenzy continues! The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference climbs aboard today as their conference tournament tips off, featuring the top- seeded Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers (logo at right). Other teams  making the tournament field from the KIAC are the St Louis College of Pharmacy Eutectics, the Indiana East Red Wolves and many others.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT ACTION CONTINUES: FEBRUARY 23RD

 February Frenzy continues here at Balladeer’s Blog as additional conference tournaments tip off tonight. Among the leagues starting post-season play this evening will be the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference featuring the Southwestern College Moundbuilders, the Tabor Blue Jays, the Bethany Swedes and the 2nd seeded University of Saint Mary Spires (logo at right). In the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) the 1st round of the Mideast Region Tournament tips off, with teams like the Johnson University Preachers and the Crown College Royal Crusaders seeing action.
