NJCAA1 COLLEGE WORLD SERIES TEAMS FINALIZED, PLUS DAY 5 OF THE NJCAA3 WORLD SERIES

Perennial baseball power the Iowa Western Reivers  ( snazzy new logo at left) are among the field of 10 teams making the 2012 NJCAA Division 1 College World Series. Balladeer’s Blog takes a look at all of this year’s participants below.

Meanwhile the NJCAA Division 3 champs may be crowned tonight. The Joliet College Wolves and the Niagara Thunderwolves are the two teams left standing and they face each other tonight at 8pm ET. Niagara already has one loss in the Series so if they lose it’s all over. If the Thunderwolves win, however, it will only be Joliet’s first loss, forcing a deciding game tomorrow night.

BAD MOVIE PAGE: HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP (1980)

HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP (1980) – Category: A neglected bad movie classic that deserves a Plan 9-sized cult following

Okay, this movie is better known than many of the other joyously bad films I review, but it still hasn’t acquired the reputation or the following it deserves as Midnight Movie or Movie Host material. Vic Morrow IS the heavy and Doug McClure IS another bland and unmemorable hero in this Continue reading

ONE WOMAN FACES DANGEROUS TIMES IN CHINA

My favorite international adventuress, “Gabryella”, author of the riveting blog The World According To Woman (logo at right) offers a tense and disturbing look at xenophobia and misogyny in China.

This courageous lady is a bit outre, so politically correct wimps should avoid her blog, but if you have a spine check out her latest missive about the inherent perils of being a resident alien in China. Here is the link –

END OF THE WORLD MYTH: JOHN DEE-STRUCTION OF THE EARTH

John Dee sharpened his beard on a daily basis.

Plenty of gullible people think the world will end this December 21st so Balladeer’s Blog has been examining various end of the world myths and predictions from the past.

March 17th, 1842 – Just as many people mistakenly believe that the Mayan calendar explicitly predicts the end of the world on December 21st, 2012, the year 1842 saw a mad rush of people putting their faith in a non-existent prophecy attributed to the venerable mathematician and astrologer John Dee.

The Elizabethan scholar noted Continue reading
