NJCAA CHAMPS DECIDED, TWO NCAA SERIES STILL ROLLING

NJCAA DIVISION ONE

Central Arizona College Vaqueros NEWCHAMPIONSHIP GAME: The CENTRAL ARIZONA COLLEGE VAQUEROS took on the IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS yesterday. The 1st Inning was an embarrassment to both defenses and ended in a 7-4 Reivers lead.

From there the Vaqueros would only permit Iowa Western College to drive in 1 more Run in the 6th Inning while keeping their own bats red-hot. Central Arizona College won the game by a final score of 13-8 behind the pitching of Mitchell DeCovich. * THE VAQUEROS ARE CHAMPIONS OF NJCAA BASEBALL *

NCAA DIVISION TWO

centralmissourimulesDAY ONE, GAME ONE: The 5 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES – clashed with the 4th seeded ASHLAND UNIVERSITY EAGLES. The Mules parlayed a 1-0 edge in the 1st Inning into a 5-0 advantage by the 2nd.

The 4th Inning ended with the University of Central Missouri on top 7-2 and the 5th in a 9-2 Mules lead. The Eagles would trim that to 9-4 in the 7th Inning but that ended the scoring as 9-4 also wound up being the final tally. Ben Kelsch pitched for the win. Continue reading

TWO MORE COLLEGE BASEBALL CHAMPS CROWNED, NCAA WORLD SERIES UNDERWAY

NAIA

tennessee wesleyan collegeCHAMPIONSHIP GAME: The top seeds – the TENNESSEE WESLEYAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS – clashed with the 6th seeded SAINT THOMAS UNIVERSITY BOBCATS (should be the Tomcats) for the NAIA title. A 1-0 1st Inning edge for the Bulldogs became a 2-0 lead in the 3rd.

By the end of the 6th Inning the Tennessee Wesleyan College advantage had expanded to 6-1. The only other Run scored the rest of the way came from the Bobcats in the 7th Inning as the Bulldogs won the game 6-2. Cole Bellair was the triumphant Pitcher. * THE BULLDOGS ARE CHAMPIONS OF NAIA BASEBALL

NJCAA DIVISION TWO

Northern Oklahoma College at Enid Jets SQUARECHAMPIONSHIP GAME: The last two teams standing in this World Series were the 5th seeded NORTHERN OKLAHOMA COLLEGE AT ENID JETS and the 3 seeds – the MESA COLLEGE THUNDERBIRDS. After 2 scoreless Innings the Thunderbirds went up 2-0 in the 3rd.

The 4th Inning saw the Jets go on top 3-2, and in the 5th Inning a 4-4 deadlock resulted. Northern Oklahoma College at Enid drove in a Run in the top of the 9th and rode it to a 5-4 victory for Pitcher Brandon Hudson. * THE JETS ARE CHAMPIONS OF NJCAA DIVISION TWO BASEBALL *

NCAA DIVISION THREE

Boston BeaconsDAY ONE, GAME ONE: The UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS AT BOSTON BEACONS took the diamond against the WEBSTER UNIVERSITY GORLOKS. Neither team scored in the first 2 Innings, following which the 3rd ended in a 1-1 tie.

The Gorloks grabbed a 3-1 lead in the 4th Inning but by the 7th the Beacons had knotted things up again, this time at 3-3. A UMass-Boston Run in the 8th Inning held up as the Beacons triumphed 4-3 behind the pitching of Bobby Tramondozzi. Continue reading

MAY 30TH’S COLLEGE WORLD SERIES SCORES FOR THE NAIA, D2, D3 AND NJCAA

 The NAIA’s Oklahoma City University Stars, who for the past two years have been sharing the sports spotlight at this time of year with the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder, fell yesterday in a Battle Royal with the top-seeded LSU-Shreveport Pilots (as in riverboat pilots).

Today the NAIA World Series resumes plus the NCAA Division 3 champs from 2011, the Marietta College Pioneers, continue their quest to repeat. All this plus D2 and NJCAA World Series scores as they become available.

NAIA WORLD SERIES – (9) Rogers State University Hillcats  keep their upset mojo going, bringing down the (2) Lee University Flames in a 7-5 game for the ages!!!  (Flames elim)  Hillcats advance to Friday’s Championship Game  *****  (1) LSU- Shreveport Pilots over the Continue reading

MAY 29TH COLLEGE WORLD SERIES SCORES FOR THE NAIA, D2, D3 AND NJCAA

 After a 3-day weekend of baseball action there are fewer and fewer teams left in the running for this year’s World Series Championships in the divisions of college sports covered here at Balladeer’s Blog.

COLLEGE BASEBALL: WEEKEND SCORES IN THE NAIA, NJCAA, D2 AND D3 WORLD SERIES

 Fire up the grill for a Memorial Day Weekend overflowing with college baseball World Series action! The NAIA got the holiday rolling yesterday with the opening 4 games of their event and today the NCAA Divisions 2 and 3 join them.

Not only that but the NJCAA Divisions 1 and 2 hit the diamond today as teams like the Scottsdale Fighting Artichokes (logo at left) mark day 1 of their World Series.

Enjoy a 3-day weekend of barbecues, sun and championship- level baseball! What basketball is to March, college baseball is to this time of year. Keep checking back here at Balladeer’s Blog all weekend long for updated scores as they become available.

THE 2012 NAIA COLLEGE WORLD SERIES GETS UNDERWAY TODAY!

 Oh, to be in Lewiston, ID in the springtime! Once again Lewiston is playing home to the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) World Series. 10 teams have gathered together for this double- elimination tournament to crown a new champion, following last year’s champs, Concordia (CA), being ousted in the regional playoffs.

The University of South Carolina- Beaufort Sand Sharks (logo above left) and the Rogers State University Hillcats are making their 1st appearance in the final field of 10 teams. The top 2 seeds, the LSU- Shreveport Pilots (riverboat pilots) and the Lee University Flames, respectively, each have a bye in today’s opening round and will play their first games tomorrow.

Among the 8 teams hitting the diamond today will be the (10) College of Idaho Coyotes and the (7) Point Park University Pioneers in Game 1 at 12 Noon ET. The aforementioned (8) USCB Sand Sharks and the (9) Rogers State Hillcats face each other at 3pm ET, followed by the (4) Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs taking on the (5) Embry- Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles at 6pm ET. The 10 pm game will feature the host team, the (6) Lewis- Clark State Warriors vs the (3) Oklahoma City University Stars.

2012 D3 COLLEGE WORLD SERIES TEAMS FINALIZED, PLUS DAY 3 OF THE NJCAA3 WORLD SERIES

 The regional playoffs in NCAA Division 3 baseball are over and the eight teams that will compete in the D3 College World Series have been finalized. The Webster University Gorloks (logo at left), a former Cool-Named Team of the Day here at Balladeer’s Blog, have the most original and creative name among the eight teams.

On the actual baseball side of things last year’s champions, the Marietta College Pioneers, won their region and return to the World Series to defend their crown. For the other D3 World Series teams as well as scores from today’s NJCAA3 College World Series games read on.
