The top-seeded POINT PARK UNIVERSITY PIONEERS stayed perfect in tourney play in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference yesterday. The Pioneers clashed with the usually lethal 3 seeds – the INDIANA UNIVERSITY SOUTHEAST GRENADIERS – who picked a bad time to have one of their worst days ever. Point Park eviscerated IUS by a final talley of SEVENTEEN to FOUR. Luckily for the Grenadiers baseball plays a double- elimination tournament so they remain alive. Continue reading

COLLEGE BASEBALL: NAIA CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS DAY TWO
The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s 2014 tourney entered Day Two yesterday. The top seeded POINT PARK UNIVERSITY PIONEERS joined the fun and took the diamond against the 4th seeded BEREA COLLEGE MOUNTAINEERS. The two teams were tied up at 1-1 after the 1st Inning and remained in that state of affairs until the Pioneers took a 2-1 lead in the 4th. A big 5th inning for Point Park saw them notch 3 additional runs and with another run in the 8th for them plus a Berea run in the 7th the final score was Pioneers 6 Mountaineers 2. COLLEGE BASEBALL: NAIA CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS ARE UNDERWAY!
The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference threw out the first pitch yesterday in postseason play for the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics). The ever- dangerous INDIANA UNIVERSITY- SOUTHEAST GRENADIERS came in as the 3 seeds and opened up the proverbial can of whupass on the 6th seeded ALICE LLOYD COLLEGE EAGLES. The college sports gods always smile when a team with an overused name like Eagles, Tigers, Bulldogs or Wildcats gets routed and the Grenadiers were happy to oblige!
IUS led 4-1 after the 1st Inning and 7-1 after the 2nd. The Grenadiers then went on to put up 4, 1 and 3 runs respectively in the 7th, 8th and 9th Innings on their way to an impressive FIFTEEN to ONE humilation of the Eagles. Mason Lingafelter got the win as IUS moves on to the next round. Continue reading

COLLEGE BASEBALL RESULTS FROM APRIL 19th
UC-CLERMONT RULES THE WORLD – The USCAA’s UNIVERSITY OF CINCINATTI AT CLERMONT COUGARS didn’t just upset the NCAA’s WILMINGTON COLLEGE QUAKERS, they completely dismembered them and burned the remains. A 2-2 tie in the 2nd Inning became a 9-2 lead for the Cougars by the time the 3rd Inning was over. UCC never looked back from there, going on to total the Quakers by a final score of 12-2.
THE ULTIMATE PITCHER’S DUEL – Ryan Hedges from the ALFRED STATE PIONEERS took on Derek Harkin from the SUNY- CANTON KANGAROOS in the most exciting battle of the mounds from yesterday’s action. The Kangaroos gave up one run in the opening Inning and that turned out to be all the scoring for the entire game! The Pioneers went home with a 1-0 victory. Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: NCAA DIVISION TWO CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – You can call 2014 the Year of the Mule, at least in NCAA Division Two men’s basketball. This year’s title tilt came down to a pair of Two Seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES and the WEST LIBERTY UNIVERSITY HILLTOPPERS. The teams seemed evenly matched at first and as the Halftime buzzer sounded the Hilltoppers were in the lead by a tight score of 39-37. Continue reading
