NCCAA DIV ONE
FINAL FOUR: FIRST BERTH – The 6th seeded BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS went up against the 3 seeds – the MID-AMERICA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EVANGELS.
The Rambling Rams were feeling it and put the Evangels on Upset Alert at Halftime with their 35-31 lead. After the break Bluefield College intensified their efforts, limiting Mid-America Christian University to just 27 points while putting up 39 themselves. The final score was Rambling Rams 74 Evangels 58. Seventeen points from Jermiah (middle name “sic”) Jenkins led Bluefield.
FINAL FOUR: SECOND BERTH – Up next the 2 seeds – the EMMANUEL COLLEGE LIONS – battled the 7th seeded COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS BOBCATS.
The 1st Half ended with the Lions clinging to a 39-34 edge. From there Emmanuel College kicked things up a notch on both sides of the ball, putting more and more distance between themselves and the Bobcats. In the end the Lions defeated the College of the Ozarks 80-63 led by Elijah Robinson’s 18 points.
FINAL FOUR: THIRD BERTH – This next quarterfinal pitted the top seeded SOUTHWESTERN CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES against the 8 seeds – the LIFE PACIFIC COLLEGE WARRIORS.
The Eagles – clearly tired of my whining about how there are too many college teams called Eagles – said “suck on it” and walloped the Warriors 47-30 by Halftime enroute to an 87-69 victory. Shawn Scott tossed in 23 points for Southwestern Christian University.
FINAL FOUR: LAST BERTH – The two teams fighting over the lone remaining berth in the 2018 Final Four were the 4 seeds – the CENTRAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE OF KANSAS TIGERS – and the 5th seeded WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS.
The opening Half was a Defensive Epic that ended with the Royals threatening an Upset with a 27-25 edge. After the break the Tigers came roaring back to outscore Warner University 39-28 to win the game 64-55. T.J. Williams of Central Christian College of Kansas notched a Double Double of 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the victors.
NAIA DIV ONE
DAY ONE: GAME ONE – Starting things off was this clash between the 6th seeded LIFE UNIVERSITY (GA) RUNNING EAGLES and the 3 seeds – the WILLIAM CAREY UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS.
The Running Eagles instilled fear in the Crusaders, leading them 33-27 at the break. From there William Carey University mounted a wild comeback but fell just short, losing to Life University (Not affiliated with the School of Hard Knocks) by a score of 68-67. Undra Mitchem led the Running Eagles with 23 points as his team shouted “Life U AND the horse you rode in on!”
DAY ONE: GAME TWO – A 4 seed versus 5 seed matchup followed, this one between the (4) LSU-ALEXANDRIA GENERALS and the (5) LEWIS CLARK STATE WARRIORS.
By Halftime the Generals were hanging on by their fingernails to a 39-37 edge. The 2nd Half was almost as tightly competitive but LSU-Alexandria managed a little bit of breathing room to defeat the Warriors 77-71. Jordin Williams logged 23 points to lead the Generals.
DAY ONE: GAME THREE – The 3rd seeded GEORGETOWN (KY) COLLEGE TIGERS took on the 6 seeds – the CENTRAL BAPTIST COLLEGE MUSTANGS.
The Tigers were on top of the Mustangs 39-29 at the midpoint of the game but from there Central Baptist College cut that lead in half, ultimately falling to Georgetown College by a final tally of 79-74. Shadell Millinghaus scored THIRTY-FOUR points for the victorious Tigers.
DAY ONE: GAME FOUR – This game featured one of the 2 seeds – the OKLAHOMA CITY UNIVERSITY STARS – and one of the 7 seeds, the XAVIER (LA) UNIVERSITY GOLD RUSH.
A Defensive Duel opened up play, with the Stars leading the Gold Rush by a count of just 29-21 at the break. In the 2nd Half Oklahoma City University outscored Xavier (LA) University 33-29. The end result was Stars 62 Gold Rush 50. OCU’s Samuel Williams led his team with 14 points.
