NAIA CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS

mayville state comets logoNORTH STAR ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – It was all chalk in the opening round of the NSAC Tournament. The top-seeded MAYVILLE STATE COMETS swatted the (8) PRESENTATION COLLEGE SAINTS 91-63   ###   Meanwhile, the 4 seeds – the VALLEY CITY STATE VIKINGS – eliminated the (5) BELLEVUE (NE) BRUINS 72-54   ###   And the (3) DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS won 72-60 over the (6) DAKOTA STATE TROJANS. MORE COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS

Conference Champs move on to the NAIA National Tournament.

Marian University KnightsCROSSROADS LEAGUE: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The two teams left standing in the battle for this conference’s crown were the 2nd seeded MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS and the 4 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS.

By Halftime the Knights were in possession of a comfortable 41-30 advantage. After the break, Marian U managed a bit more separation from the Cougars for an 86-71 triumph led by Brayton Bailey and Antwaan Cushingberry, who put up 16 points each. * THE KNIGHTS ARE 2021 CHAMPIONS OF THE CROSSROADS LEAGUE *

FRONTIER CONFERENCE: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – This title tilt pitted the top seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF PROVIDENCE (MT) ARGONAUTS – against the 2nd seeded CARROLL COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS.

The Argonauts were on top of the Fighting Saints 32-25 by the midpoint. From there, the University of Providence poured it on, ultimately winning the game by a very comfortable margin of 77-57. Rashee Stocks tossed in 20 points to lead the Argos while teammate Zaccheus Darko-Kelly notched a Double-Double of 16 points and 12 rebounds. * THE ARGONAUTS ARE 2021 CHAMPIONS OF THE FRONTIER CONFERENCE * Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS: MORE ACTION

ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS

Indiana University Northwest RedhawksROUND ONE, GAME ONE – The top seeds – the INDIANA UNIVERSITY NORTHWEST REDHAWKS – got a wake-up call from the 8th seeded LINCOLN CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY RED LIONS. The Redhawks seemed to have everything under control and led 57-40 come Halftime. After the break the Red Lions came storming back, with IUN holding on by their fingernails for a 96-91 win. Rashad Richardson’s 22 points led the Redhawks.

Washington Adventist University ShockROUND ONE, GAME TWO – In this contest the 2nd ranked WASHINGTON ADVENTIST UNIVERSITY SHOCK likewise got almost more than they could handle from the 7 seeds – the GREEN MOUNTAIN COLLEGE EAGLES (Should be the Verdant Eagles). The Shock were on top 37-30 at the midpoint but barely eked out a 75-74 victory in the face of a furious Green Mountain College rally. Desmond Stanback led the Shock with 19 points. Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE

THE SUN CONFERENCE

ave maria university gyrenesROUND ONE, GAME ONE – (The top 2 seeds in the Sun Conference get a bye in the 1st round.) The 3rd seeded AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES took the court against the 6 seeds – the SAINT THOMAS UNIVERSITY BOBCATS. The Gyrenes parlayed a 39-29 Halftime lead into an 80-69 triumph. Ave Maria University was led by Leo Behrend with 23 points. 

Coastal Georgia MarinersROUND ONE, GAME TWO – The 5 seeds – the COLLEGE OF COASTAL GEORGIA MARINERS – visited the 4th seeded KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS. At the break the Seahawks held a 39-34 advantage over the Mariners. The College of Coastal Georgia came back to force Overtime with a 76-76 tie to end Regulation. In the extra session the Mariners won it 86-85. Jaylen Smallwood’s 23 points led CCG.

NORTH STAR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION

Mayville State Comets SQUAREROUND ONE, GAME ONE – The 3 seeds – the MAYVILLE STATE COMETS – faced the 6th seeded VITERBO UNIVERSITY V-HAWKS in this game. The Comets had mustered a 43-40 edge by the Half and from there they got more and more separation from the V-Hawks, ultimately winning the game by a score of 88-75. NCCAA COLLEGE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS BEGIN, NAIA CONTINUES

Johnson (TN) RoyalsDAY ONE, GAME ONE – The 4 seeds – the JOHNSON UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE ROYALS – took the court against the 5th seeded MARANATHA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SABERCATS.

The Royals had things well in hand by the break with a 51-31 advantage over the Sabercats. Coming out of the locker room Johnson University of Tennessee kept up the pace until garbage time, bouncing Maranatha Baptist University by a final score of 90-73.

Randall University Saints NEWDAY ONE, GAME TWO – Up next the top seeded Defending National Champions – the RANDALL UNIVERSITY SAINTS – clashed with the 8th seeded KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS.

Kentucky Christian University was really feeling it and had the Saints faithful worried at Halftime with their 39-36 edge over the top seeds. In the 2nd Half Randall University showed the Heart of a Champion and outscored the Knights 42-38 for a tight 78-77 win. Kashus Lyons scored 24 points for RU. Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: MORE TICKETS PUNCHED TO THE NAIA TOURNAMENT

CHICAGOLAND COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

Governors State University JaguarsCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The top seeds – the GOVERNORS STATE JAGUARS – took on the 2nd seeded ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS for the CCAC crown yesterday.

By Halftime the Jaguars had shot out to a 39-29 advantage and that turned out to be the difference in the game. The 2nd Half was spent keeping the Lakers at arm’s length and in the end Governors State won the title by a final tally of 78-68. Jalen Miller notched 22 points to lead the victors. * THE JAGUARS ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF THE CCAC TOURNAMENT Continue reading

LATEST COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT RESULTS

ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS

Stillman College TigersCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – This title tilt pitted the STILLMAN COLLEGE TIGERS against the VOORHEES COLLEGE TIGERS, so you can insert my usual comment about how there are too many college sports teams called Tigers, Eagles, Bulldogs and Wildcats.

At the end of an explosive 1st Half Stillman College  led Voorhees College by a count of 44-38. After the break a 7-0 run put Voorhees on top 45-44 but Stillman soon retook the lead. After several ties the rest of the way the end result was an 87-84 triumph for Stillman College. Daquan Forrest led the victors with 22 points.  * THE STILLMAN TIGERS ARE THE 2018 CHAMPIONS OF THE AII TOURNAMENT

GREAT PLAINS ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

Northwestern (IA) Red Raiders logoFIRST SEMIFINAL – The 3rd seeded NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS took the court against the 7 seeds – the DOANE UNIVERSITY TIGERS (Didn’t I tell you there are too many teams called Tigers?)

The Red Raiders struck a blow for more original team names (Unless you’re from Lubbock) by leading the Tigers 34-25 by the Half. From there Northwestern College stayed in control and ultimately advanced to the Conference title game by a score of 77-63. Nathan Wedel tossed in 25 points to lead the way for the Red Raiders.    Continue reading

Roosevelt U LakersFIRST QUARTERFINAL:

The 2nd seeded ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS (24-6) will host the number 7 seeds – the CARDINAL STRITCH UNIVERSITY WOLVES (15-15).

Tipoff is scheduled for tonight at 8:00pm Eastern Time.

Governors State University JaguarsSECOND QUARTERFINAL:

The top seeds – the GOVERNORS STATE UNIVERSITY JAGUARS (22-8) – will welcome the 8th seeded OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS (15-15).

Tipoff is scheduled for tonight at 8:00pm Eastern Time.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNEYS STRIKE AGAIN

GOLDEN STATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE 

Westmont College WarriorsOPENING ROUND, GAME ONE – In this game the 4 seeds – the WESTMONT COLLEGE WARRIORS (Should be the Guardians) – took the court against the 5th seeded WILLIAM JESSUP UNIVERSITY WARRIORS.

A very hard-fought 1st Half ended with Westmont College on top by a score of 34-26. After the break the Guardians Warriors left William Jessup University further and further behind as they went on to win the contest by a Century Club-level tally of 102-86. Sean Harman led the victors with 18 points while his teammate Sean McDonnell registered a Double Double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS KEEP ROLLING ALONG

SOONER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

USAO Drover newQUARTERFINAL GAME ONE – This was the game of the night in the SAC Tournament and featured the 4 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND ARTS OF OKLAHOMA DROVERS – taking on the 5th seeded WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS (Should be the Flying W’s).

The Drovers and the Pioneers were knotted up at 41-41 by Halftime, then went on to end Regulation in an 87-87 tie. In the Overtime session the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma went on to win a 100-99 nailbiter. Taran Buie notched 26 points to lead the Drovers.  Continue reading
