FINAL TWO COLLEGE BASEBALL CHAMPIONS CROWNED FOR 2014

* NCAA DIVISION TWO *

Southern Indiana University Screaming EaglesCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – Balladeer’s Blog’s college baseball coverage for 2014 came to a close with yesterday’s completion of the World Series in NCAA Division Two and the NJCAA Division Two. The UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN INDIANA SCREAMING EAGLES did battle with the COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY MAVERICKS for the title. The Screaming Eagles grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the 1st Inning but the Mavericks went ahead 2-1 in the 3rd. That was all the scoring until another Southern Indiana run tied the score at 2-2 in the 8th Inning. Things remained knotted up at that score until the TWELFTH INNING, when USI scored the go- ahead run on – of all things – a bases- loaded walk. Matt Chavarria pitched the 3-2 victory. * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SCREAMING EAGLES, THE 2014 CHAMPIONS OF D2 BASEBALL! *     Continue reading

* NAIA *

cumberland-logoCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The Cinderella 10 seeds – the CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS – made it all the way to the title game to take on the 2nd seeded LEWIS- CLARK STATE WARRIORS. Behind some impressive pitching by Anthony Gomez the Bulldogs ensured they would remain THE story in NAIA baseball throughout the offseason with another nation- shaking upset. Cumberland shut out the Warriors while slamming in 2 runs of their own in the 2nd Inning and 1 more in the 7th for a 3-0 victory and their program’s third- ever baseball crown. * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BULLDOGS, THE 2014 CHAMPIONS OF NAIA BASEBALL! *

* NJCAA DIVISION ONE *

Iowa Western ReiversCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – When all the dust had settled in this year’s thrilling College World Series for the NJCAA Division One the last two teams standing were the IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS and the MIAMI DADE COLLEGE SHARKS. The Reivers came into the title game undefeated in this year’s Series play but the Sharks already had a loss to their name, so Miami Dade had to win just to force a second game in this Double- Elimination tournament. Iowa Western would have none of it, though, utterly swamping the Sharks SEVENTEEN to FIVE to take their third baseball championship in the last five years! Drake Robison pitched for the win. * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE REIVERS, THE 2014 CHAMPIONS OF NJCAA BASEBALL! *  Continue reading
