* NCAA DIVISION TWO *
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – Balladeer’s Blog’s college baseball coverage for 2014 came to a close with yesterday’s completion of the World Series in NCAA Division Two and the NJCAA Division Two. The UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN INDIANA SCREAMING EAGLES did battle with the COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY MAVERICKS for the title. The Screaming Eagles grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the 1st Inning but the Mavericks went ahead 2-1 in the 3rd. That was all the scoring until another Southern Indiana run tied the score at 2-2 in the 8th Inning. Things remained knotted up at that score until the TWELFTH INNING, when USI scored the go- ahead run on – of all things – a bases- loaded walk. Matt Chavarria pitched the 3-2 victory. * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SCREAMING EAGLES, THE 2014 CHAMPIONS OF D2 BASEBALL! * Continue reading
The Marietta College Pioneers (logo at left) repeated as NCAA Division 3 World Series champions, as reported here at Balladeer’s Blog yesterday afternoon. The Pioneers did it with a flourish, too, casually dusting the St Thomas University Tommies, the only team that had beaten them so far in this year’s Series, by a score of 6-0. Then they pounded the Wheaton (MA) Lyons 7-2 proving that the Lyons (yes, with a “y”) taking them into extra innings a few days ago was just a fluke.
Today the World Series’ continue in the NAIA, D2 and NJCAA. The NAIA’s LSU- Shreveport Pilots (riverboat pilots) clash with the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs for the right to face the Cinderella Rogers State University Hillcats, in tomorrow’s championship game. Keep checking back for updated scores as they become available.
