FINAL TWO COLLEGE BASEBALL CHAMPIONS CROWNED FOR 2014

* NCAA DIVISION TWO *

Southern Indiana University Screaming EaglesCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – Balladeer’s Blog’s college baseball coverage for 2014 came to a close with yesterday’s completion of the World Series in NCAA Division Two and the NJCAA Division Two. The UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN INDIANA SCREAMING EAGLES did battle with the COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY MAVERICKS for the title. The Screaming Eagles grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the 1st Inning but the Mavericks went ahead 2-1 in the 3rd. That was all the scoring until another Southern Indiana run tied the score at 2-2 in the 8th Inning. Things remained knotted up at that score until the TWELFTH INNING, when USI scored the go- ahead run on – of all things – a bases- loaded walk. Matt Chavarria pitched the 3-2 victory. * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SCREAMING EAGLES, THE 2014 CHAMPIONS OF D2 BASEBALL! *

* NJCAA DIVISION TWO *

This was virtually a tale of two different halves of the game – up through the 5th Inning the only scoring had come from 1 Thunderbird run each in the 1st, 3rd and 4th for a 3-0 lead. By the end of the 6th Inning the game was tied up 5-5 after a huge performance by the Eagles! The 7th Inning ended with a 6-6 tie and that remained the score through the end of regulation. In the top of the ELEVENTH INNING Mesa College scored 3 runs with Hinds College only managing 1 run in their half of the Inning, giving the Thunderbirds a 9-7 triumph! Evan Fresquez got the win for the T-Birds! * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE THUNDERBIRDS, THE 2014 CHAMPIONS OF NJCAA2 BASEBALL! *
