THREE BAD MOVIES FROM PAUL NASCHY

Dr Jekyll vs the Wolf ManPaul “Jacinto Molina” Naschy was Spain’s King of Horror decades ago. Many of his films featured his recurring character Waldemar Daninsky, a tormented lycanthrope who was seeking a cure for his curse.

Long ago I reviewed Assignment: Terror (1969), which pitted Waldemar against aliens, a faux Frankenstein Monster, a vampire and a mummy. Here are three more from Naschy:

Dr Jekyll vs The Wolfman (1972), in which a descendant of the original Dr Jekyll uses the family formula to cure Waldemar of lycanthropy. Trouble is he starts turning into a kinky and murderous Mr Hyde on the nights of the full moon. (This is better than being a werewolf?) Continue reading

MUHAMMAD BATHING IN BLOOD

"NO! MUSLIMS CANNOT MURDER OUR FREEDOMS"

“NO! MUSLIMS CANNOT MURDER OUR FREEDOMS”

A year ago the German publication the Berliner Kurier continued showing defiance to Muslim fanatics and their would-be Kapos in the west. Islam is always the rabid animal retarding the rest of the world’s social progress and the ugly Muslim habit of wanting to stifle freedom wherever they go MUST be opposed.

The misogyny, homophobia and superstitious savagery of Islam is incompatible with diverse societies and Muslims expect “understanding” and “tolerance” to be a one-way street.

A depiction of their child-raping “prophet” (snicker) bathing in blood while reading a copy of Charlie Hebdo is much more daring than anything the gutless newspapers in America will run. At any rate all religions are nonsense but Islam is the only one that continues living in the 7th Century. Continue reading

BOGIE: A SPECIAL LITTLE GUY BELOVED BY ALL

Photo collection masterfully assembled by another of my sisters - Debbie.

Photo collection masterfully assembled by another of my sisters – Debbie. That’s Rosemary and my nephew Donny with Bogie in the photos.

Earlier this week my sister Rosemary’s dog Bogie left us. I would have posted a few days ago but couldn’t help crying every time I would try to type anything about this.

Aristotle felt that the loyal and affectionate nature of dogs earned them a place in the afterlife. Bogie’s blend of sweetness, intelligence and selfless devotion could convince even the most cynical and skeptical of people that Aristotle was right.

Even neighborhood children just adored Bogie (named for Rosemary’s favorite actor Humphrey Bogart) and often spontaneously hugged him and told him they loved him. Those children would also often gather at windows and stare in at Bogie, excitedly yelling “He’s moving! Oh my God!” when he would do anything at all, even just walk to his water dish for a drink.

Human beings would be lucky to be as loving, gentle, and delightful as Bogie always was. His passing has left a hole in our lives that we feel aching every minute of the day.

FINAL TWO COLLEGE BASEBALL CHAMPIONS CROWNED FOR 2014

* NCAA DIVISION TWO *

Southern Indiana University Screaming EaglesCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – Balladeer’s Blog’s college baseball coverage for 2014 came to a close with yesterday’s completion of the World Series in NCAA Division Two and the NJCAA Division Two. The UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN INDIANA SCREAMING EAGLES did battle with the COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY MAVERICKS for the title. The Screaming Eagles grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the 1st Inning but the Mavericks went ahead 2-1 in the 3rd. That was all the scoring until another Southern Indiana run tied the score at 2-2 in the 8th Inning. Things remained knotted up at that score until the TWELFTH INNING, when USI scored the go- ahead run on – of all things – a bases- loaded walk. Matt Chavarria pitched the 3-2 victory. * CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SCREAMING EAGLES, THE 2014 CHAMPIONS OF D2 BASEBALL! *     Continue reading

BALLADEER’S BLOG MARKS NEW MILESTONE: THANK YOU

Balladeer’s Blog hit a new single- day high for hits on Saturday, October 8th. That new high for a single day is 12,577. Thank all of you for reading and for spreading the word about my odd combination of college sports, mythology, bad movies, ancient Greek comedies and forgotten history. I’ve had an interesting time writing this blog and have blazed my own trail, much to the annoyance of one or two long- time bloggers who live up to the outdated negative stereotype of bloggers being people who act like the Comic Book Guy on the Simpsons. 99% of the people I’ve gotten to interact with have been interesting and courteous and  Continue reading

QUICK Q AND A WITH 4 KENTUCKY STATE THOROBREDS

The Kentucky State Thorobreds are 3-1, ranked 6th in the latest HSRN poll and are prepping for this weekend’s game in the Circle City Classic, a neutral site event against the reigning champs in HBCU D2: the Albany State Golden Rams. Despite all this activity this week the good people at the KSU Sports Information offices and four of their football players were kind enough to find the time for one of Balladeer’s Blog’s brief Q&A interviews. So let’s help celebrate the Thorobreds’ 125th anniversary by getting to know some of their student athletes.

Raphael Amey

Senior

Wide Receiver

Dumfries, Va.

1. What was your proudest moment as a Kentucky state football player?     A: My first homecoming game, it showed me the true tradition of HBCU’s, because alumni come back from all over the country to watch no matter how good or bad the team is doing, and it is a really big game, no matter how good your team is doing as well.

2. What aspect of Thorobred tradition prompted you to decide to pursue your football career at KSU?     A: I just saw change in the future for all of us Thorobred football players because, all the players in the 08 class that I came in on was all on the same page, but because of internal mistakes, it has took us a while but this will be the year for change.

3. What would you say is your greatest asset as a football player?    A: My greatest asset is my hand-eye coordination, the way I can adjust the ball and catch it consistently.

4.  What title would you give a 30 For 30 documentary about this year in KSU football?     A: The Rise

5.Why would you say your having the kind of season you’re having?     A:  Because of my hard work dedication and love for the game, and I also had to just wait for my time, and this is my time.

6. With Halloween coming up, what is your favorite horror film?      A: I don’t really like to watch horror films, but the movie “the Strangers” gave me nightmares for a few years.

7. What video game would you say you could kick your coach’s butt at?      A: I’ll kick my coaches but in Diddy Kong Racing for Nintendo 64

8. If Balladeer’s Blog does a road trip for one of  the Thorobreds home games where should I eat?    A:Cracker barrel
