Balladeer’s Blog hit a new single- day high for hits on Saturday, October 8th. That new high for a single day is 12,577. Thank all of you for reading and for spreading the word about my odd combination of college sports, mythology, bad movies, ancient Greek comedies and forgotten history. I’ve had an interesting time writing this blog and have blazed my own trail, much to the annoyance of one or two long- time bloggers who live up to the outdated negative stereotype of bloggers being people who act like the Comic Book Guy on the Simpsons. 99% of the people I’ve gotten to interact with have been interesting and courteous and you readers have been phenomenal with your encouragement and support. Thanks again and I hope all of you continue reading.
BALLADEER’S BLOG MARKS NEW MILESTONE: THANK YOU

Congratulations! I love reading your movie reviews and your mythology pages. I’m not up on American sports. I tried a blog myself once but couldn’t get more than a hundred or so hits a day. What approach did you use?
Thank you. My approach has been to appeal to readers, not just other bloggers. If you followed that strategy of commenting at a zillion blogs a day to get the bloggers to comment at yours, too that may be why you couldn’t advance past the hundred or so hits a day stage. By appealing to readers via link dumps, etc you can get a lot of hits from non-bloggers. The overwhelming majority of my hits have always come from readers, not other bloggers. You get a lot more comments by leaving comments at other blogs, but not a lot of non-blogger hits.
I think that tired idea of tediously visiting other blogs to comment on might work for somebody who writes say, a “blogging tips blog” (LOL) , because let’s face it – the only potential readers they would have would be bloggers or people considering blogging. If your blog offers actual content instead, you can attract plenty of readers and spend more time writing posts rather than commenting elsewhere.
Oh, I’ll keep reading, don’t you worry about that!
I’m amazed at the numbers and how fast your audience is growing. Wasn’t it about 8000 last week? Having said that, you’ve found yourself a few nice nieche subjects there and you’ve also got a good hand and a wicked sense of humour, so I’m not surprised at your success. I’m very happy for you, Ed and I hope you clock up millions of hits by the end of the year 😉
Thank you very much. I really appreciate it. But my total hits were around 150,000 last week. You can follow it on the hit counter toward the lower right on my blog. The overwhelming majority of my hits have always come from outside WP, that’s why I don’t have comments from a bunch of other WP bloggers, except for people like you and Sara and the others whose feedback I respect.
Wow, that’s a pretty impressive number…I’ve just seen that you’ve got your stats activated. With the number of hits you’re getting, you may as well. It looks good 😉
I told you you’d go viral !!! 😉
