MERINA MYTHS: THE LEMUR GOD

Can anyone tell me why no college sports teams are called the Lemurs?

Can anyone tell us why no college sports teams are called the Lemurs?

BABAKOTO – The Merina lemur god. Babakoto was at first an ordinary man. Through a series of misfortunes he wound up being accused and condemned to death for a crime he did not commit. Nobody would believe his innocence, however, and so he began plotting to escape before his execution could be carried out.

MALDOROR 10: A RAIN OF BLOOD FROM MY MIGHTY FORM

Balladeer’s Blog resumes its examination of the macabre 1868 French language work The Songs of Maldoror.

A RAIN OF BLOOD FROM MY MIGHTY FORM

krew.png (222×239) An uncharacteristically vulnerable Maldoror wonders if he is in his final hours. He defiantly and gleefully boasts that none of the world’s lying, parasitic clergy will be attending him when his end comes. If his supernaturally long life is at last over he plans to meet it cradled on the waves of the sea or atop a forbidding mountain peak.

Our narrator further points out that no sign of either sorrow or fear will mark his hideous visage at the approach of his merciless annihilation. Against all the odds he marshals what is left of his strength and begins to float across the sky, so that he can watch man’s inhumanity to man to the very last. His eldritch form spreads like a coal-black cloud, blotting out the sun and inflicting violent eruptions of lightning on the ground below. Continue reading

MUSLIM PLOT TO BOMB U.S. CONSULATE FOILED BY CANADIAN AUTHORITIES

Islamophobia posterReuters reports that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have thwarted Muslim Jahnazeb Malik’s plan to bomb the United States Consulate and other buildings in the financial district of Toronto. Malik is a self-proclaimed supporter of the Islamic State.

Thank you, Canada! And I’d like to express my condolences to American grovelers for Islam like Ben Affleck and the faculty at Brandeis University. I’m sure they will be very saddened that the attack was thwarted and that they won’t be able to spit in the faces of the loved ones of any victims by lecturing the rest of us about how “misunderstood” the superstitious savagery called Islam supposedly is.

Nothing makes the hilariously pretentious asses of American Liberalism happier than stating that the dead victims of Muslim violence somehow “brought it on themselves”, so thank you, Mounties, for defeating Malik’s plan in advance.

FRIDAY THE 13th PART 3-D (1982) ON THE TEXAS 27 FILM VAULT

Friday the 13th Part 3DBefore MST3K there was … The Texas 27 Film Vault! In the middle 1980’s, way down on Level 31 Randy Clower and Richard Malmos, machine-gun toting Film Vault Technicians First Class hosted this neglected cult show. Balladeer’s Blog continues its celebration of the program’s 30th anniversary year.

ORIGINAL BROADCAST DATE: Saturday February 14th, 1987 from 10:30pm to 1:00am.

SERIAL: None. The movie, Film Vault Corps comedy sketches and commercials filled up the entire two and a half hours this time.

FILM VAULT LORE: This episode marked the second time The Texas 27 Film Vault came with a warning about violent content. It was also at least the second time they riffed on a movie that was originally in 3-D. Randy and Richard did various jokes about wearing 3-D glasses and 3-D effects coming out of the screen at them as they watched the movie.

Randy and Richard firing their machine guns at giant rats, cellumites and other subterranean creatures.

When you throw in the previous year’s “Mock 3D” interview with Ben Johnson and the 1987 release of The Texas 27 Film Vault‘s official 3-D poster you could say Randy, Richard, Ken “Tex” Miller, Joe Riley and Laurie Savino had a definite fondness for taking shots at the whole 3-D concept.

MALDOROR 9: I SALUTE YOU, ANCIENT OCEAN

Balladeer’s Blog resumes its examination of the macabre 1868 French language work The Songs of Maldoror.

I SALUTE YOU, ANCIENT OCEAN

Maldoror OCeanThe supernatural figure Maldoror reflects on his fascination with the ocean. He reminds readers that he is a monster and that his hideous face doesn’t come close to matching the ugliness of his soul. His demented reflections on the nature of the ocean follow, along with the oft-repeated line “I salute you, ancient ocean”. (“Je te salue, vieil ocean”)

Per his perverse nature Maldoror’s attempt to sing the praises of the ocean can’t help but be couched in eerie and disturbing imagery. He longs to lie beside the ocean in the tentacles of an affectionate octopus as the two kindred spirits admire the waves and the watery vastness.  Continue reading
