REJECTED SUPREME COURT NOMINEES

For assorted reasons the Supreme Court is being much discussed in recent months. Balladeer’s Blog takes a look at the various Supreme Court nominees who were REJECTED by the Senate. I’m omitting John Rutledge since – because he was a recess appointment – he actually served as Chief Justice for one of the Court’s terms before the official Senate vote rejecting his nomination by President Washington.

Alexander WolcottALEXANDER WOLCOTT

Gang Affiliation: Democratic-Republican Party

Senate Vote: On February 13th, 1811, the Senate rejected Wolcott’s nomination by President James Madison by a vote of 24 nays and 9 yeas.

Ostensible Reasons For The Rejection: The Federalist Party Senators and the Federalist Party media outlets clobbered Wolcott over his enforcement of the controversial Embargo and Non-Intercourse Acts while serving as Customs Inspector in Connecticut.

Second – and most importantly – his limited legal experience was cited as a definite hindrance to serving on the highest court in the land. (Ya think?)

John C SpencerJOHN C SPENCER

Gang Affiliation: Whig Party

Senate Vote: On January 31st, 1844, the Senate rejected Spencer’s nomination by President John Tyler by a tight vote of 26 nays and 21 yeas.

Ostensible Reasons For the Rejection: Spencer had accepted the position of Secretary of War and later Secretary of the Treasury under President Tyler, alienating fellow Whigs who saw him as a traitor for not showing solidarity with them against Tyler. This rejection was part of a virtual war between the Executive and Legislative Branches following John Tyler’s succession to the presidency following the death in office of Whig President William Henry Harrison. REJECTED SUPREME COURT NOMINEES

Grampa JoeFor assorted reasons the potential of a new Supreme Court vacancy has been much discussed in recent months. PUBLIC ENEMIES: DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS

Mascot with demo and repub heads

The symbol of the nonexistent Balladeer Political Party

Well, at least those Democrats and Republicans who hold elected office. In an election year the nonsense flows even more frequently from those white-collar criminals. For overseas readers and people in their teens and below, let me cut through some of the garbage being spoken. Feel free to check the veracity of what I’m about to say on any website you want.

ONE: PRESIDENTS LOVE THE EASY EXCUSE OF BLAMING EVERYTHING BAD ON THEIR PREDECESSOR WHILE TAKING CREDIT FOR EVERYTHING GOOD THAT HAS HAPPENED. Obama-worshippers are ridiculous for still blaming Little Barry’s messes on the execrable George W Bush. Clinton blamed  G.H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan. Reagan blamed Jimmy Carter for everything. Carter blamed Ford. It’s meaningless. Presidents SEEK OUT the job. It’s not like jury duty.

TWO: BOTH PARTIES HAVE MADE STATEMENTS REFUSING TO CONSIDER ANY SUPREME COURT NOMINEES IN AN ELECTION YEAR WHEN THE OPPOSING PARTY HOLDS THE PRESIDENCY. Obama has sunk even lower than I would have thought he could sink with his non-stop lies about the appointment procedure. Sure, a president can nominate, but THE SENATE IS AN EQUAL PARTNER IN THE PROCESS. THEY DON’T HAVE TO OBEY A TIMETABLE LAID DOWN BY A PRESIDENT.

OBAMA SLAPPED BY THE SUPREME COURT AGAIN

Obama madman

“If the working class doesn’t like me then I’ll just take their jobs away from them!”

Balladeer’s Blog is the only site on the web that truly criticizes Liberals and Conservatives equally. Barack Obama has AGAIN been slapped by the Supreme Court for overstepping his lawful authority. Twenty-seven of our fifty states (not fifty-seven, like Obama thinks we have) took the Hollow One’s latest attack on U.S. jobs to court.

The end result: Obama’s bizarre desires will NOT be enforced until the legality or illegality of his actions can be clarified. Little Barry’s dream was that his demented rules would be in effect until the court cases were over. The U.S. Supreme Court patiently explained once again to Obama about the limits of his office.  Continue reading

LIBERALS AND CONSERVATIVES AND ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION

Two of the worst presidents in history walk into a bar …

Welcome back to the favorite site of Independent Voters! This is Balladeer, America’s favorite loose cannon of the Culture Wars! Actually I’m far from famous but you have to admit the expression “America’s favorite loose cannon of the Culture Wars” really kicks ass! As always this is the only site on the web that criticizes both Liberals and Conservatives equally.

Following today’s Supreme Court decision on illegal immigration which, surprise, surprise, struck down part of the law being reviewed AND upheld part of the law being reviewed, both sides are claiming victory. Many of my readers are from overseas and they’ve been asking me about the political gibberish that Liberals and Conservatives spout about immigration laws here in the U.S.

For starters, ignore EVERYTHING either side says in which they pretend to be taking a principled stand. None of it matters and it’s all just a smokescreen to obscure the truth of the matter. That truth is that American Liberals and American Conservatives all Continue reading

LIBERALS AND CONSERVATIVES AND “JUDICIAL ACTIVISM”

Welcome back to Balladeer’s Blog, the only Independent Voter site on the internet that is truly nonpartisan in its criticism of the shrill children called Liberals and Conservatives.

Last time around I addressed the hilariously frantic overreaction of both Liberals and Conservatives to the oral arguments about Obamacare presented to the Supreme Court. In a related topic, this time I’ll address what America’s shrill political zealots mean when they say “judicial activism”. This is in amused response to Obama’s whining about the Supreme Court and the power the Justices wield as “unelected figures” appointed for life.

It’s typical of Liberals and Conservatives to cry “judicial activism” whenever the Supreme Court interferes with legislation their particular group  supports, but when Supreme Court rulings go their way, those same left-wing and right-wing zealots praise the Continue reading

LIBERALS AND CONSERVATIVES AND THE SUPREME COURT HEARINGS ON OBAMACARE

Welcome back to Balladeer’s Blog, the only Independent Voter site on the internet that is truly non-partisan in its criticism of the shrill children called Liberals and Conservatives.

Both sides of the American political spectrum have hilariously overreacted to the inept presentation made before the Supreme Court by Obama’s Solicitor General Donald Verrilli. Verrilli’s role in such a hearing is to provide some justification regarding the constitutionality of Obamacare but he sounded like a poorly-prepared 12 year old reading his book report to the class.

Liberal pundits have been uproariously downbeat about Verrilli’s universally panned performance and Conservative pundits have been just as uproariously upbeat about it. They all Continue reading
