In the divisions of college basketball covered here at Balladeer’s Blog the 2020 postseason is under way! Last night the NAIA’s Sun Conference Tournament tipped off.
THE SUN CONFERENCE
ROUND ONE, GAME ONE – The 4th seeded AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES hosted the 5 seeds – the WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS. By Halftime the Gyrenes were in complete control with a 50-25 lead over the Royals. After the break Ave Maria University kept up the pressure, ultimately winning by a final tally of 89-67. Leo Behrend led the Gyrenes with a Double-Double of 26 points and 12 rebounds. Continue reading →

The Sun Conference tipped off their post-season tournament yesterday, joining the hardcourt action in the divisions covered here at Balladeer’s Blog. Here are recaps of the Opening Round games:
The 8th seeded WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WARRIORS hosted the number 9 seeds – the AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES in a game that went from being a tight classic to a comfortable win late. The Warriors overcame an early Gyrene lead to hold an 18-12 advantage with 10 minutes to play in the 1st Half. By the break Ave Maria had trimmed that to a 37-33 edge for Webber International. Late in the 2nd Half the Warriors led the Gyrenes 63-41 and coasted from there to a 71-59 victory. Brian Pace led WIU with 23 points. Continue reading →

Tonight at 7pm ET additional tournaments tip off in the conferences of college basketball covered by Balladeer’s Blog. The Virginia Intermont College Cobras (logo at left) are the 5 seed in the Appalachian Athletic Conference and they will take on the 4 seeds, the Bryan Lions, tonight.
And the AAC is not the only conference getting February Frenzy rolling in earnest this evening. The America Mideast Conference will join the Sun Conference and the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference in tournament action tonight. RED RIVER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The LSU-Shreveport Pilots (as in riverboat pilots) are the conference champs having eviscerated the UTB-TSC Scorpions by a score of 10-1 in the title game!
