COLLEGE BASKETBALL POSTSEASON CONTINUES

GULF COAST ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

Dillard U Bleu DevilsCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The two teams battling it out for the GCAC crown were the top seeded DILLARD UNIVERSITY BLEU (sic) DEVILS and the 2 seeds – the PHILANDER SMITH COLLEGE PANTHERS.

The Bleu Devils made a statement early with a 13-2 run to start the game and by Halftime they had parlayed that into a 43-31 advantage. After the break the Panthers fell further and further behind Dillard University as the latter went on to an 86-65 victory. THREE COLLEGE BASKETBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONS CROWNED

*** USCAA DIVISION ONE ***

Concordia (AL) LogoNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The 2nd seeded CONCORDIA (AL) COLLEGE HORNETS and the 4 seeds – the ILLINOIS TECH SCARLET HAWKS – battled for the title in Division One of the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association).

The Scarlet Hawks ended the 1st Half on top of the Hornets 33-27 but Concordia College made with one of their patented comebacks. In the end the Hornets took the crown by a final score of 61-51. Dennis Miles led Concordia with a Double Double of 16 points and 13 rebounds. * THE HORNETS ARE CHAMPIONS OF USCAA DIVISION ONE *   Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNEYS STRIKE AGAIN

GOLDEN STATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE 

Westmont College WarriorsOPENING ROUND, GAME ONE – In this game the 4 seeds – the WESTMONT COLLEGE WARRIORS (Should be the Guardians) – took the court against the 5th seeded WILLIAM JESSUP UNIVERSITY WARRIORS.

A very hard-fought 1st Half ended with Westmont College on top by a score of 34-26. After the break the Guardians Warriors left William Jessup University further and further behind as they went on to win the contest by a Century Club-level tally of 102-86. Sean Harman led the victors with 18 points while his teammate Sean McDonnell registered a Double Double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS KEEP ROLLING ALONG

SOONER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

USAO Drover newQUARTERFINAL GAME ONE – This was the game of the night in the SAC Tournament and featured the 4 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND ARTS OF OKLAHOMA DROVERS – taking on the 5th seeded WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS (Should be the Flying W’s).

The Drovers and the Pioneers were knotted up at 41-41 by Halftime, then went on to end Regulation in an 87-87 tie. In the Overtime session the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma went on to win a 100-99 nailbiter. Taran Buie notched 26 points to lead the Drovers.  Continue reading

MORE COLLEGE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS

GREAT PLAINS ATHLETIC CONFERENCE 

Northwestern (IA) Red Raiders logoCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The title tilt in this league pitted the 2 seeds – the NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS – against the top seeded BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS. The Red Raiders shrugged off an early SEVENTEEN POINT DEFICIT and came back to seize a 46-44 lead over the Chargers by Halftime. After the break Northwestern College still had a fight on their hands but squeezed out a 95-89 victory led by Nathan Wedel’s 23 points. * THE RED RAIDERS ARE GPAC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS * Continue reading

STILL MORE COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT RESULTS

ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS

Washington Adventist University ShockCHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The two teams who were still standing for this title tilt in the AII were the top seeded WASHINGTON ADVENTIST UNIVERSITY SHOCK and the 4 seeds – the ROCHESTER COLLEGE WARRIORS. A furious opening Half ended with the Shock clinging by their fingernails to a 34-33 edge.

After the break Washington Adventist University slowly but surely took control of the game, ultimately defeating the Warriors by a final score of 78-63. Tyrus Fleetwood led the Shock with 23 points and 8 rebounds. * THE SHOCK ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE AII TOURNAMENT * Continue reading

2017 COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE

CALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE

calmaritimekeelhaulersFIRST SEMIFINAL – The top seeds – the CAL MARITIME ACADEMY KEELHAULERS – seek to extend their dominance of the California Pacific Conference when it comes to hoops. Their semifinal opponents were the 4th seeded UNIVERSITY OF ANTELOPE VALLEY PIONEERS, making their first post-season appearance in their very first year of eligibility.

The story of this game saw the Keelhaulers grab a sizable lead, only to see the Pioneers close the gap. The score was 58-56 with just over 11 minutes left to play, but from there Cal Maritime Academy exploded offensively, going on to win the game 84-72. Daniel Radford led the Keelhaulers with 19 points and 7 rebounds, followed by Phil Randles with 16 points and Adam Armstead with 15. Continue reading

MORE COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT RESULTS

CASCADE COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE  

hustlin-owls1FIRST SEMIFINAL – This game pitted the 4th seeded OREGON TECH HUSTLIN’ OWLS against the 3 seeds – the COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES. The Hustlin’ Owls put the Coyotes on Upset Alert by Halftime with a 34-26 advantage, then went on to consummate the deal by defeating College of Idaho by a final score of 75-69. Appropriately enough Joel Yellow Owl was the high scorer for Oregon Tech with his THIRTY-ONE points.  

corban-warriorsSECOND SEMIFINAL – The 8 seeds – the CORBAN UNIVERSITY WARRIORS – remained the big story of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament. In the Quarterfinals they became the first 8 seed in Conference history to defeat a 1 seed. In this Semifinal the Warriors kept their upset mojo going by toppling the 2nd seeded EASTERN OREGON UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS. Corban University parlayed a 53-40 lead over EOU at the break into a Century Club-level 100-90 triumph led by AJ Monterossi’s THIRTY-TWO points. Continue reading

2017 COLLEGE BASKETBALL POSTSEASON CONTINUES

THE SUN CONFERENCE TOURNEY

thomas-university-night-hawks-bigSIX OVER THREE UPSET – The 6 seeds – the THOMAS UNIVERSITY NIGHT HAWKS – stunned the 3rd seeded SAINT THOMAS UNIVERSITY BOBCATS in this thriller. Chalk seemed to be carrying the day at Halftime as the Bobcats led the Night Hawks 35-29 but Thomas University came out of the break like men possessed, coming from behind for a 75-68 victory. For the first time in program history the Night Hawks won a Quarterfinal Game and move on to the Semifinals. Javoris Cooks led the winners with a Double Double of 15 points and 10 rebounds with teammate Katrell Myers close behind with 15 points and 9 rebounds.

Keiser SeahawksKEISER WAS WISER – The 4th seeded KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS did battle with the 5 seeds – the JOHNSON & WALES (FL) WILDCATS in this game. The Seahawks trailed the Wildcats 36-34 at the break but in the 2nd Half they assumed command. Keiser University got more and more separation from Johnson & Wales and won the contest by a score of 78-65. The Seahawks were led by Stanley Whittaker with a TRIPLE DOUBLE of 20 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds.   Continue reading

COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE

RIVER STATES CONFERENCE

ius_logoGRENADIERS ROLLING – The West’s 1 seed – the INDIANA UNIVERSITY SOUTHEAST GRENADIERS – took on the East’s 4th seeded UNIVERSITY OF RIO GRANDE (OH) RED STORM.

At Halftime the score was knotted up at 47-47 but after the break the Grenadiers pulled away from the Red Storm and won the game by a final score of 93-79. Jamie Johnson tossed in 25 points to lead Indiana University Southeast.  

ohiochristiantrailblazersTHREE OVER TWO UPSET – In this game the East’s 3rd seeded OHIO CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY TRAILBLAZERS did battle with the West’s 2 seed – the CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES.

The Trailblazers trailed the Eagles at the break by a count of 48-47 but in the 2nd Half Ohio Christian’s wealth of postseason experience told the tale as they came from behind for a Century Club-level 104-91 triumph. The Trailblazers were led by Marquis Jackson’s THIRTY-TWO points and 6 rebounds.   Continue reading
