GOLDEN STATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
OPENING ROUND, GAME ONE – In this game the 4 seeds – the WESTMONT COLLEGE WARRIORS (Should be the Guardians) – took the court against the 5th seeded WILLIAM JESSUP UNIVERSITY WARRIORS.
A very hard-fought 1st Half ended with Westmont College on top by a score of 34-26. After the break the Guardians Warriors left William Jessup University further and further behind as they went on to win the contest by a Century Club-level tally of 102-86. Sean Harman led the victors with 18 points while his teammate Sean McDonnell registered a Double Double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.
OPENING ROUND, GAME TWO – The 3rd seeded team, THE MASTER’S UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS, clashed with the 6 seeds – the ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM – in the next game. The Firestorm led at Halftime by a score of 32-27 but the Mustangs regrouped in the locker room and came out for the 2nd Half full of steam.
The Master’s University came from behind for a 76-61 triumph led by Lawrence Russell and Hansel Atencia with 14 points each. Russell accumulated 15 rebounds as well to notch a Double Double.
SOUTHERN STATES ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
FIRST SEMIFINAL – The 2 seeds – the DALTON STATE ROADRUNNERS – clashed with the 3rd seeded MARTIN METHODIST COLLEGE REDHAWKS in this game.
The Roadrunners seemed to have it made as they beep-beeped out to a 48-35 lead by Halftime but then wound up having to withstand a frantic Redhawks rally in the 2nd Half. Dalton State advanced by the skin of their teeth in a 69-67 nailbiter. Reed Dungan tossed in 24 points to lead the Roadrunners.
SECOND SEMIFINAL – This Semifinal pitted the top seeded WILLIAM CAREY UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS against the 4 seeds – the LOYOLA (LA) UNIVERSITY WOLFPACK. The Crusaders proceeded to dominate the Wolfpack on both sides of the ball, leading 41-27 by the midpoint.
After the break William Carey University coasted to an 86-71 triumph led by Leo Garrett with 17 points and Terrance Mujahid with a Double Double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.
SOONER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE
FIRST SEMIFINAL – The SAC’s 4 seeds – the storied UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND ARTS OF OKLAHOMA DROVERS – toppled the Conference’s top seeded TEXAS WESLEYAN RAMS!
The Drovers put the Rams on Upset Alert at Halftime with a 36-29 advantage, then carried through on the threat with an 80-68 victory! Imani Edwards led USAO in scoring with the 28 points he put up while his teammate Taran Buie was close behind with 23 points of his own.
SECOND SEMIFINAL – The 6th seeded OKLAHOMA CITY UNIVERSITY STARS contributed another upset of their own against the 2 seeds – the SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS.
A thrilling 1st Half came to an end with the Stars imperiling the Lions by way of a 31-26 edge. From there Oklahoma City University squeezed out a little more breathing room for a 68-62 triumph. The Stars were led by Lou “Not the Harlem Globetrotter” Dunbar, who contributed 23 points.
