NELLIE BLY’S NOVELS

Back in November, Balladeer’s Blog covered female journalist Nellie Bly’s journey around the world. I mentioned the lost but rediscovered novels she had written and fellow blogger The Introverted Bookworm inquired if I was going to cover them. So, here we go:

EVA THE ADVENTURESS  – This was the second of the novels that Nellie Bly (Elizabeth J. Cochrane) wrote between 1889 and 1895. They were considered lost until being rediscovered in 2021.

Eva the Adventuress or A Romance of a Blighted Life was inspired by Nellie’s interview with the convicted criminal Eva Hamilton, wife of a descendant of Alexander Hamilton. The novel features the fictional Eva Scarlett rising from poverty to marrying a dynamic man of means.

Before long Eva learns that the marriage is a sham and she is tossed into the streets, marked as a fallen woman. Our title character begins a climb back up the ladder, seeking revenge on anyone who wrongs her.

Former RFK Jr. senior advisor Link Lauren was the latest to point out that “This is the real Biden they’ve tried to hide from you for years.” 

LINDY LI, FORMER DEMOCRAT NATIONAL COMMITTEEE FUNDRAISER, REMINDS US ALL WHY SHE – LIKE SO MANY OF US – LEFT THE INTOLERANT DEMOCRAT PARTY BEHIND. Among her remarks she emphasized again “I am done with them” (Democrats) – and stated she is recruiting others to leave The Party, too.

BIDEN REGIME’S MERRICK GARLAND CALLED OUT AGAIN FOR LYING THAT FIVE POLICE OFFICERS WERE KILLED ON JANUARY SIXTH. Is ANY lie too low for garbage like this to spread it?

JANUARY SIXTH-A-PALOOZA: 2025

biden bloodHere’s the 2025 edition of what will apparently be an annual post for as long as demagogues insist on pretending there was an “insurrection” (LMAO) on January 6th, 2021. Uh. Yeah. No guns, no police officers killed (despite Joe Biden’s absurd claims otherwise) and the Capitol building’s doors were OPENED for the trespassers by the authorities, as shown on film.

And remember, NOTHING THAT HAPPENED ON JANUARY SIXTH COULD HAVE PUT TRUMP BACK IN THE WHITE HOUSE! Learn something about how your own government works, anti-Trump fascists! At any rate, here we go again:

BIDEN CALLED THESE RIOTS MOSTLY PEACEFUL PROTESTS

The overwrought propaganda of Biden supporters on this date has me laughing VERY hard. They theatrically pretend that the mass trespassing incident of January 6th, 2021 was “worse than the Civil War and the 9-11 attacks.” What disingenuous garbage.

Their monumental and hilarious political hypocrisy is on full display in Washington DC as Democrats engage in political theater while pretending to revere the Capitol Building and its “symbolism.” (LMAO) Before I became an Independent Voter I spent most of my life as a Democrat and believe me, they feel contempt for the Capitol and its “symbolism”, even calling it one of the “institutions of imperialist rule” and “the seat of White Supremacy and systemic racism in America.”

Democrats also despise people who DO revere the Capitol and its symbolism, dismissing them as simple-minded patriotic rednecks.

Nancy Pelosi demagogueOn January 6th, 2021, a “mostly peaceful protest” (as Democrats described the MONTHS-LONG Antifa riots which terrorized the country) at the Capitol turned into a chaotic mass-trespassing incident with the Democrats of the Capitol Police even killing an unarmed woman. Suddenly, Democrat pretensions that they revered the Capitol poured from the mouths of the demagogues of the Democrat Party.

Hey, let’s rename it “the Demagogue Party”. After all, the Democrat Party is the country’s oldest existing institution which launched a Civil War and fought for slavery, so a name change for that political party is LONG overdue. Okay, so they won’t rename themselves the Demagogue Party, but they should rename it something to distance themselves from the Democrat Party’s horrifically racist past.

capitol bombing 1983Anyway, Democrats felt that their OWN storming of the Capitol was fine back on October 4th, 2018, even though THEY WERE INTERFERING WITH ONE OF THOSE GOVERNMENT FUNCTIONS WHICH THEY NOW PRETEND SHOULD BE SACROSANCT. Democrats/ the left cheered on that activity. And let’s not forget the way the left literally set off a BOMB in the Capitol on November 7th, 1983. Also HERE. A million dollars (by 1983 standards, so much more today) in damage was done.

Most adults are above the fake tears and the fear-mongering which truly pathetic Democrat members of Congress are indulging in regarding January 6th. The Democrats will probably never lose their competitive edge in phoniness and manufactured emotion, so non-Democrats – as in Independents, Third Party Voters, Republicans and People Who Claim No Political Affiliation, in other words THE REST OF US – will always need to remain highly skeptical of any and all political theater from them. 

Kenosha democrat riotIn May 2020 when the White House was violently attacked for about 24 hours and many secret service agents were seriously injured, Biden and other Democrats said Trump “used tear gas against peaceful protestors” even though it’s been proven that he DIDN’T use tear gas on those “peaceful protestors.” Listen to those Democrat hypocrites today and the draconian measures they now recommend against civil disobedience!

The night of May 31st, 2020 rioters set fires all over the capital of the United States. A mob of them gathered outside the White House and threatened to storm it. The president was said to have been moved to a bunker. Many Democrats laughed at him and supported the mob. Never mind that the safety of the president, as a symbol of America and self-governance, goes beyond individual or party and should never be a laughing matter, like Democrats are now sniveling about the Capitol.

Who knows? Someday the January 6th protestors may be looked on as the victims of governmental authoritarianism, like the Bonus Marchers of long ago. Nobody knows how events will be viewed decades and centuries from now, no matter how much Democrats pretend that they do with their ridiculous “right side of history” nonsense.

CONGRESSWOMAN MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE COURAGEOUSLY ADDS HER VOICE TO THOSE CALLING TO EXPOSE ALL THE CONGRESSMEN – FROM BOTH PARTIES – WHO USED TAXPAYER MONEY TO PAY SEXUAL (AND OTHER) HARASSMENT SETTLEMENTS WHILE IN OFFICE.

           FOR OVERSEAS READERS, this Slush Fund that goes back years has long been exposed but because figures from BOTH gangs of white-collar criminals are involved Congress has “bipartisanly” ignored it. At least SEVENTEEN MILLION DOLLARS of taxpayer money was spent on those settlements and representatives like Marjorie Taylor Greene and others who keep speaking out about it get attacked and ostracized and ridiculed.

          Greene, Thomas Massie and Lauren Boebert are among the few demanding names of the offenders be made public since taxpayer funds were used. This is just one of the reasons why Greene and Boebert in particular get subjected to so much trashing and ridicule by their colleagues, especially through dubious leaks against them. 

           FOR JUST A FEW OTHER REMINDERS OF THESE BIPARTISAN COVERUPS OF ATROCIOUS CONGRESSIONAL CONDUCT: The Congressional Bank Scandal more than 30 years ago, in which elected white-collar criminals FROM BOTH PARTIES were sticking taxpayers with overdrafts on checking accounts of Congressmen. *** The BCCI Scandal and the earlier Savings & Loan Crisis saw members of both major parties involved in wrongdoing and/or questionable ethics.   

AND YET ANOTHER DEMOCRAT COURAGEOUSLY LEAVES THAT INTOLERANT PARTY BEHIND AND BECOMES A REPUBLICAN. Representative Hillary Cassell joins so many of us in leaving the irrational, hatemongering mess that the Democrats have become.

DEMOCRAT JOHN MORGAN – A MEGADONOR TO JOE BIDEN – CONSIDERS LEAVING THE DEMOCRATS TO RUN FOR OFFICE AS A THIRD PARTY CANDIDATE. Hopefully he will. Morgan praised Trump’s transformation of the Republican Party and called him “a f**kin’ genius.”

SANTA CLAUS (1925) A SILENT SHORT IDEAL FOR CHILDREN

While we’re still in that “Christmas into New Year’s” week here’s a look at a terrific seasonal silent movie.

SANTA CLAUS (1925) – This 28 minute and 44 second movie was directed by Frank Kleinschmidt, the famous explorer and documentary filmmaker. Santa Claus has an irresistible charm and with its short running time might be the ideal way of introducing silent films to modern day viewers who are unfamiliar with them.   

Kleinschmidt filmed this project in Alaska, so viewers get plenty of snowy scenery plus animal life from the far north. The movie presents some very clever lore surrounding Santa and his activities.

Santa Claus opens with Saint Nick himself welcoming us with arms spread wide. The story proper gets underway as we join two children – a brother and sister – who sneak out of their beds overnight to wait for Santa in their living room.

That right jolly old elf eventually materializes in the children’s home like he’s “beamed down” on Star Trek.  The boy and girl hug Santa and want him to explain what he does the rest of the year. Continue reading →

EVEN THE BIDEN REGIME’S OWN HUD FORCED TO ADMIT HOMELESSNESS IS AT ITS HIGHEST LEVEL IN MODERN HISTORY UNDER JOE. And that’s just part of Biden’s dark, horrific legacy.

RED SUN (1971) – My review of this action western which starred Charles Bronson, Toshiro Mifune, Alain Delon, Ursula Andress and Capucine. Outlaw Charles Bronson joins forces with samurai Mifune to recover a ceremonial sword (and a fortune in gold) stolen during a train robbery by Delon.  Capucine and Ursula are a pair of dangerous ladies. ANCIENT SCIENCE FICTION: A VOYAGE INTO TARTARY (1689) – I reviewed this long-ago sci-fi novel about the discovery of a futuristic city whose inhabitants had flying machines, ray-guns, and telescopes which had let them see forests and unknown life-forms on the moon. The city’s science had also spawned genetically engineered hybrid creatures. Click HERE. 

HEADMASTER (1970) – This example of Forgotten Television starred Andy Griffith in his first post-Mayberry sitcom role. He played the new headmaster at a private academy in California. Jerry Van Dyke co-starred. Click HERE.
