A DOUBLE-SHOT OF THAT OT LOVE – This game pitted the (7) SAN DIEGO MESA COLLEGE OLYMPIANS against their hosts the EAST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE HUSKIES. A 7-0 1st Quarter lead for the Olympians was cut to a 14-13 edge by Halftime. The Huskies went up 19-17 to end the 3rd Quarter but the 4th ended in a 25-25 tie. Neither team scored in the 1st OT but in the 2nd San Diego Mesa College logged 8 points to win the game 33-31.
TWO IN A ROW – The COMPTON COLLEGE TARTARS took the field against the visiting SANTA MONICA COLLEGE CORSAIRS. The scoring in this game was as odd as the Tartars winning two in a row. Compton College led the Corsairs 6-0 in the opening Quarter and 12-0 at the break … And then no more points were scored, so the Tartars improved to 2-1 with this 12-0 win. Continue reading
DELTA STATE CONQUERS DIVISION ONE – In this game NCAA Division 2’s DELTA STATE STATESMEN traveled to take on NCAA Division 1’s MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE DELTA DEVILS. By Halftime the Statesmen were on top 18-0. The Delta Devils finally got on the board in the 3rd Quarter, which ended with Delta State leading 25-10. In the 4th the Statesmen completed the Upset 28-17.
UW-LACROSSE TOPPLES A D2 TEAM – NCAA Division 3’s (11) UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-LACROSSE EAGLES visited NCAA Division 2’s WAYNE STATE WARRIORS. The Warriors saw their 7-0 1st Quarter edge turn into a 21-14 Eagles advantage at the Half. A 21-21 tie ended the 3rd Quarter before UW-Lacrosse won out 28-21.
DOWN GOES NUMBER SEVEN – Up in the NAIA, the ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS welcomed the number 7 team in the nation – the CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS. At the midpoint the score was knotted up 14-14 but from there the Lakers outscored Concordia 14-6 for a 28-20 Upset victory.
WHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – Last night the number 4 team in the nation – the NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE RANGERS – took it on the road against the 14th ranked PEARL RIVER COLLEGE WILDCATS. The Wildcats led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter and 14-7 by Halftime, but the Rangers shut them out from there. The 3rd Quarter ended in a 14-14 tie and the final tally was NMC 21 PRC 14.
KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES – The (6) JONES COLLEGE BOBCATS visited the COPIAH-LINCOLN COLLEGE WOLFPACK. A 10-0 Bobcats advantage at the Half became a 10-10 deadlock in the 3rd Quarter. An action-packed 4th saw Jones College prevail by a score of 23-17.
ACU CONQUERS DIVISION TWO – The annual tradition of NAIA college football teams upsetting teams from higher divisions has continued every week so far in 2022. Yesterday the ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM visited NCAA Division Two’s FORT LEWIS COLLEGE SKYHAWKS. The Firestorm stunned the Skyhawks, leading them 28-9 at Halftime before winning the game 52-12.
MINERS TOPPLE DIVISION ONE – In a similar vein, NCAA Division Two’s MISSOURI S&T MINERS traveled to face Division One’s DRAKE UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS. This much tighter game saw a scoreless 1st Quarter followed by a 7-0 Miners edge at the Half. The Bulldogs came back to tie things up 14-14 in the 4th Quarter. In Overtime, Missouri S&T won out 17-14.
NUMBER ONE TAKES A FALL – Down in NCAA Division Three, the 6th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS welcomed the number 1 team in the nation – the UNIVERSITY OF MARY HARDIN-BAYLOR CRUSADERS. A 7-7 opening Quarter tie became a 14-10 midpoint lead for the Warhawks. The Crusaders went up 24-21 in the 3rd, but with 13 seconds left in the 4th, UW-Whitewater won the game 28-24.
TAKING DOWN NUMBER TWELVE – The PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS traveled to face the 12th ranked UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-KEARNEY LOPERS. A 7-0 Lopers lead in the 1st Quarter became a 21-14 advantage for them by Halftime. The Gorillas went on top 28-14 going into the 4th Quarter, then won the game by a final score of 35-28.
MARATHON MEN – In this game the UNIVERSITY OF CHARLESTON GOLDEN EAGLES visited the FAIRMONT STATE FALCONS. The Golden Eagles led the Falcons 21-7 at the Half but Fairmont State came back to knot things up 28-28 to end Regulation. The 1st Overtime ended in a 35-35 deadlock and the 2nd with the score 38-38. Neither team mustered points in the 3rd OT, and the University of Charleston won with a Safety, 40-38, in the FOURTH OVERTIME.
SOUTHEASTERN U CONQUERS DIVISION TWO – Every year multiple NAIA teams upset higher division teams and yesterday saw the SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE bring down NCAA Division Two’s SAVANNAH STATE TIGERS. Neither team scored in the 1st Quarter, but the Fire went up 27-0 by Halftime. After a scoreless 3rd Quarter, Southeastern University consummated the Upset in the 4th with a 34-14 triumph.
DOWN GOES NUMBER FOUR – Down in NCAA Division Three, the number 5 team in the nation – the SAINT JOHN’S UNIVERSITY JOHNNIES – hosted the 4th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS. The Johnnies put the Warhawks on Upset Alert at the Half with their 9-3 lead, then carried through with a 24-10 victory.
CHARGERS ON THE ROAD – In NCAA Division Two, the storied HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS took it on the road against the LAKE ERIE COLLEGE STORM. The Chargers were chasing the Storm 14-0 in the opening Quarter and 21-14 at the break. The 3rd Quarter ended with Lake Erie College on top 28-21, but in the 4th Hillsdale College stormed from behind to win the game 35-31.
DOWN GOES NUMBER THREE – The number 5 team in the nation – the GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS – welcomed the 3rd ranked COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES OREDIGGERS. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the Lakers led 7-0 at Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with Grand Valley State out in front 17-6, but the Lakers had to hold on against a furious 4th Quarter rally by the Orediggers. The final score was Grand Valley State 25 Colorado School of Mines 22.
WORKING OVERTIME – The SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE SAVAGE STORM won a 41-34 Overtime affair against the visiting ARKANSAS TECH WONDERBOYS ### Meanwhile, the BLUEFIELD STATE BIG BLUES survived a 35-34 OT visit from the JOHNSON C. SMITH UNIVERSITY GOLDEN BULLS ### And the MCKENDREE UNIVERSITY BEARCATS defeated their hosts the NORTHERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS 31-24 in the extra session.
FMU UPSETS DIVISION TWO – Every year multiple NAIA teams topple teams from higher divisions. Yesterday the FLORIDA MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY LIONS started 2022 by knocking off NCAA Division Two’s EDWARD WATERS UNIVERSITY TIGERS. The Lions led 26-0 at the Half, then held on against a furious Tigers rally for a 39-34 triumph.
SAFETY FIRST – This game pitted the TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS against their hosts the IOWA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS (should be the Purple Tigers). The first points scored in this clash came on a 1st Quarter Safety, giving the Blue Jays a 2-0 edge which remained unchanged come Halftime. From there the Tigers led Tabor College 10-8 in the 3rd Quarter only to see the Blue Jays win out 17-13 in the 4th.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSIC – The BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS paid a visit to the THOMAS MORE UNIVERSITY SAINTS. A 21-7 1st Quarter lead for the Saints became a 21-21 tie at the break. The Rambling Rams led 35-21 going into the 4th Quarter, then held on to win the game 42-35.
WORKING OVERTIME – The UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES welcomed the VALLEY CITY STATE VIKINGS. The Jimmies led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter and 14-0 at Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with the University of Jamestown on top 21-7, but the Vikings forced Overtime with a 21-21 tie to end Regulation. In the extra session, VCSU notched a Field Goal, following which the Jimmies scored a Touchdown to win the game 27-24.
VALOR AND PRIDE – In this game the EVANGEL UNIVERSITY VALOR took the field against the visiting CLARKE UNIVERSITY PRIDE. A 17-13 edge for the Valor at Halftime became a 24-20 advantage over the Pride headed into the 4th Quarter. Evangel University added another Touchdown for a 31-20 victory.
