Yesterday continued the 2022 college football season which kicked off on Thursday.
FMU UPSETS DIVISION TWO – Every year multiple NAIA teams topple teams from higher divisions. Yesterday the FLORIDA MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY LIONS started 2022 by knocking off NCAA Division Two’s EDWARD WATERS UNIVERSITY TIGERS. The Lions led 26-0 at the Half, then held on against a furious Tigers rally for a 39-34 triumph.
SAFETY FIRST – This game pitted the TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS against their hosts the IOWA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS (should be the Purple Tigers). The first points scored in this clash came on a 1st Quarter Safety, giving the Blue Jays a 2-0 edge which remained unchanged come Halftime. From there the Tigers led Tabor College 10-8 in the 3rd Quarter only to see the Blue Jays win out 17-13 in the 4th.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSIC – The BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS paid a visit to the THOMAS MORE UNIVERSITY SAINTS. A 21-7 1st Quarter lead for the Saints became a 21-21 tie at the break. The Rambling Rams led 35-21 going into the 4th Quarter, then held on to win the game 42-35.
UPSET IN THE RANKINGS – The CARROLL COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS welcomed the 17th ranked UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS yesterday. By Halftime the Fighting Saints had put the Bulldogs on Upset Alert with a 10-3 advantage, then consummated the Upset with a 16-10 victory.
YOU SAY CUMBERLAND, I SAY CUMBERLANDS – The CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY PHOENIX started their 2022 campaign with a healthy 34-7 win over the visiting POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS ### And the UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS sent the UNION COLLEGE BULLDOGS home suffering from a 30-6 loss.
BLAZING A TRAIL TO A BEATDOWN – The MIDAMERICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS found themselves hosting the GRACELAND UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS on Saturday. The Pioneers led 33-19 by the midpoint of the game and kept up the pressure the rest of the way. The final tally was MidAmerica Nazarene University 54 Yellow Jackets 32.
SHUTOUTS – The AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES won 53-0 at the MADONNA UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS ### Meanwhile, the BETHEL (KS) COLLEGE THRESHERS obliterated the ATLANTIS UNIVERSITY ATLANTEANS to the tune of 51-0 ### And the HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS notched a 28-0 Shutout at the TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TROJANS.
ROAD WARRIORS – The MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS smacked down their Frontier Conference rivals the EASTERN OREGON UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS 38-3 ### The ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS flooded the MAYVILLE STATE COMETS 55-14 ### And the KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS clobbered the WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS in a 44-7 laugher.
DOUBLING UP ON THE COMPETITION – The LYON COLLEGE SCOTS played host to the MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS. A 7-3 1st Quarter edge for the Scots was cut to 10-9 by the break. From there Lyon College outscored the Spartans 14-3 for a 24-12 victory.
HOME BLOWOUTS – The SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE torched the NORTH AMERICAN UNIVERSITY STALLIONS by a score of 54-13 ### The TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY RAMS likewise put up 54 points to Mexico’s ARKANSAS STATE AT QUERETARO LOBOS ROJOS tally of 0 ### And the WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WARRIORS hammered the LINCOLN (CA) UNIVERSITY OAKLANDERS 35-10.
DOWN GOES NUMBER SEVEN – The number 7 team in the nation – the GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS – were brought down at the BUTLER (KS) COLLEGE GRIZZLIES. A 21-21 deadlock at Halftime became a 28-28 tie to end the 3rd Quarter before the Grizzlies won out 35-28 in the 4th.
DEFENDING CHAMPS ROLL – The defending National Champions of NJCAA Division One football – the NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE BRONCOS (should be the Cavalry) – hosted the PAPAGO PUMAS yesterday. NMMI kept the Pumas off the scoreboard until the 4th Quarter as they won easily by a count of 44-13.
TWO AND THREE DOMINATE AS WELL – The 2nd and 3rd ranked teams rolled against their opening week opponents, too. The (2) IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS trounced the visiting DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS to the tune of 46-0 ### And the (3) HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS similarly battered around the (13) NAVARRO COLLEGE BULLDOGS 44-0.
HAPPY HOMESTANDS – The HUDSON VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS (should be the Frisians) welcomed the THADDEUS STEVENS COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY BULLDOGS and defeated them 10-6 ### And the IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS managed to double up on their guests the INDEPENDENCE COLLEGE PIRATES 34-17.
AND EVEN MORE SHUTOUTS – The NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA A&M GOLDEN NORSEMEN mauled the SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY AT SHREVEPORT JAGS 44-0 ### Meanwhile, the TYLER COLLEGE APACHES folded, spindled and mutilated their guests the RPA WILDCATS by a score of 65-0 ### And the COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS blanked the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES 37-0.
