Yesterday saw the kickoff in the 2022 college football season in two of the divisions covered here at Balladeer’s Blog. The rest will join in next week. As for yesterday’s results:
NAIA
WORKING OVERTIME – The UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES welcomed the VALLEY CITY STATE VIKINGS. The Jimmies led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter and 14-0 at Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with the University of Jamestown on top 21-7, but the Vikings forced Overtime with a 21-21 tie to end Regulation. In the extra session, VCSU notched a Field Goal, following which the Jimmies scored a Touchdown to win the game 27-24.
VALOR AND PRIDE – In this game the EVANGEL UNIVERSITY VALOR took the field against the visiting CLARKE UNIVERSITY PRIDE. A 17-13 edge for the Valor at Halftime became a 24-20 advantage over the Pride headed into the 4th Quarter. Evangel University added another Touchdown for a 31-20 victory.
BATTLE OF RANKED TEAMS – The number 9 team in the nation – the REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Rottweilers) – traveled to face the 24th ranked FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Fury). Reinhardt U was out in front of Faulkner at the Half by a score of 27-17. After the break FU inched a bit closer but ultimately lost to Reinhardt 34-27.
AG BOWL – In the 7th Annual Ag Bowl, the DAKOTA STATE TROJANS squared off against the DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS (should be the Blue Tigers). This was a tale of two Halves, with the Trojans leading 7-0 in the opening Quarter and 14-0 at the break. From there the two teams exploded for 34 points as Dakota State won by a final tally of 29-19.
ROAD WARRIORS – The MOUNT MARTY UNIVERSITY LANCERS paid a visit to the PRESENTATION COLLEGE SAINTS (should be the Angels) and demolished them 42-10 ### And the 15th ranked GEORGETOWN (KY) COLLEGE TIGERS hammered their hosts the KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS in a 42-13 drubbing.
NJCAA
DEFENDING CHAMPS ROLL – The top-ranked defending National Champions, the COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS, played host to the ELLSWORTH COLLEGE PANTHERS yesterday. The Chaparrals led 17-11 in the 1st Quarter and 31-11 at Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with the College of DuPage on top 38-18 before they finished the game with a 48-25 triumph.
THAT WAS NUMBER FIIIVE! – In this game the number 5 team in the nation – the SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS – took on the visiting TRINITY VALLEY COLLEGE CARDINALS. The Badgers seized a 14-7 advantage in the opening Quarter and got more and more separation from their opponents the rest of the way. The final score was Snow College 36 Cardinals 14.
