COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM SEPTEMBER 3rd

Southeastern Fire helmet REALSOUTHEASTERN U CONQUERS DIVISION TWO – Every year multiple NAIA teams upset higher division teams and yesterday saw the SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE bring down NCAA Division Two’s SAVANNAH STATE TIGERS. Neither team scored in the 1st Quarter, but the Fire went up 27-0 by Halftime. After a scoreless 3rd Quarter, Southeastern University consummated the Upset in the 4th with a 34-14 triumph.

St John's Johnnies helmetDOWN GOES NUMBER FOUR – Down in NCAA Division Three, the number 5 team in the nation – the SAINT JOHN’S UNIVERSITY JOHNNIES – hosted the 4th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS. The Johnnies put the Warhawks on Upset Alert at the Half with their 9-3 lead, then carried through with a 24-10 victory.

HillsdaleCHARGERS ON THE ROAD – In NCAA Division Two, the storied HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS took it on the road against the LAKE ERIE COLLEGE STORM. The Chargers were chasing the Storm 14-0 in the opening Quarter and 21-14 at the break. The 3rd Quarter ended with Lake Erie College on top 28-21, but in the 4th Hillsdale College stormed from behind to win the game 35-31.

Marian Knights helmet newSPIRIT OF EIGHTY-SIX – Back in the NAIA, the (5) MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS took the field against the visiting MADONNA UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS. The Knights seized a quick 37-0 advantage in the 1st Quarter and never looked back from there. The final score in this slaughter was Marian U 86  Crusaders 0.

NNAS_VAUSCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – In the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (as in Shipbuilders) traveled to face the AVERETT UNIVERSITY COUGARS. The Cougars led 7-3 at Halftime and 14-10 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th, the Builders exploded for a 27-14 comeback win.

Bethel (TN) WildcatsNUMBER NINE TAKES A FALL – In the NAIA the BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS traveled to face the number 9 team in the country – the REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be Rottweilers). At the Half Reinhardt U held an 8-6 edge which turned into a 13-8 Wildcats lead in the 3rd Quarter. A Field Goal in the 4th gave Bethel U a 16-8 victory.

Northeast Mississippi Tigers helmetKNOCKING OFF NUMBER SEVEN – In the NJCAA the NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE TIGERS took it on the road to face the 7th ranked HINDS COLLEGE EAGLES. The Tigers led the Eagles 7-0 in the opening Quarter and 10-3 at the break. From there Northeast Mississippi shut out Hinds to win the game 20-3. 

missouri baptist helmetMARATHON GAME OF THE WEEK – The NAIA’s MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS played host to the IOWA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS (should be Purple Tigers) in this game. A 7-7 1st Half tie became a 14-14 deadlock to end the 4th Quarter. At the end of FOUR OVERTIME PERIODS the Spartans emerged with a 25-23 victory.

Hardin Simmons Cowboys NEWDIVISION THREE OVER NAIA – The (6) HARDIN-SIMMONS UNIVERSITY COWBOYS crushed the home standing WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS by a final score of 79-14   ###   Meanwhile, the (12) UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT LACROSSE EAGLES hammered the DAKOTA STATE TROJANS 42-7   ###   And the CONCORDIA (Moorhead) COBBERS won 14-12 at the VALLEY CITY STATE VIKINGS.

Presentation Saints helmetNAIA OVER DIVISION THREE – The PRESENTATION COLLEGE SAINTS (should be Angels) won 29-6 at the LUTHER COLLEGE NORSE    ###    And the MAYVILLE STATE COMETS downed their hosts the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT STEVENS POINT POINTERS in a 31-24 thriller.

*** With a win over a D2 team counting as 2 victories, the NAIA wins a second week in a row, this week by a count of 4-3.

Morningside MustangsCLOSE CALL FOR NUMBER ONE – The top-ranked MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS got almost more than they could handle from the visiting number 3 NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS. A 14-14 Halftime tie became a 23-21 Mustangs edge to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th, Morningside College held on to defeat the Red Raiders 30-29.

Peru_St_NE_OLD3UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The PERU STATE BOBCATS shut out their guests the number 18 CENTRAL METHODIST UNIVERSITY EAGLES by a score of 24-0   ###   The COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES won 21-18 at the 19th ranked ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS   ###   And the TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY RAMS dismembered their hosts the number 20 ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM 48-21.

Jamestown College JimmiesTWO IN A ROW FOR THE JIMMIES – Yesterday the UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES welcomed the DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS (should be Blue Tigers). A 7-0 Tigers lead in the 1st Quarter became 14-7 come Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended in a 14-14 tie before the Jimmies took the action-packed 4th 20-16 for a 34-30 triumph.

Ottawa (AZ) SpiritSEVENTY TO NOTHING – This was the lopsided score in two games yesterday – The OTTAWA UNIVERSITY (AZ) SPIRIT obliterated the home standing LYON COLLEGE SCOTS 70-0    ###    And the KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES won 70-0 against the visiting FRIENDS UNIVERSITY FALCONS.

Assumption Greyhounds helmetUPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – In a very odd game, the ASSUMPTION COLLEGE GREYHOUNDS defeated their guests the 14th ranked KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY GOLDEN BEARS by a baseball score of 3-0    ###    And the WEST TEXAS A&M BUFFALOES clobbered the visiting number 15 WESTERN COLORADO UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS 44-6.

Texas_AM_KingsvilleJUMPIN’ JAVELINAS – The TEXAS A&M AT KINGSVILLE JAVELINAS took the field against their guests the NORTH AMERICAN UNIVERSITY STALLIONS. A 21-0 1st Quarter lead for the Javelinas was only the beginning of a long night for the Stallions. In the end TAMK won the game SIXTY to NOTHING.

Lock Haven Bald EaglesONE-POINT WONDERS – The LOCK HAVEN UNIVERSITY BALD EAGLES traveled to face the POST UNIVERSITY EAGLES and snuck past them 35-34    ###    And the DAVENPORT UNIVERSITY PANTHERS similarly won on the road, in their case 20-19 at the TRUMAN STATE BULLDOGS.

Concord UniversityON THE PROWL – This game pitted the CONCORD UNIVERSITY MOUNTAIN LIONS against the home standing EMORY & HENRY COLLEGE WASPS. The Mountain Lions led 7-3 in the 1st Quarter and 20-17 at the Half. The Wasps made it a 20-20 tie in the 3rd Quarter, with Concord U winning out 27-20 in the 4th.

NCAA DIVISION THREE

Alma Scots helmetWORKING OVERTIME – The ALMA COLLEGE SCOTS won a 16-13 Overtime affair on the road against the OHIO NORTHERN UNIVERSITY POLAR BEARS    ###    And in a case of a missed PAT losing the game, the SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY PIRATES survived a 32-31 OT visit from the CALIFORNIA LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY KINGSMEN.

Washington and Jefferson PresidentsPRESIDENTS FOR THE WIN – The WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON COLLEGE PRESIDENTS played host to the JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY BLUE STREAKS. The Presidents were on top 21-7 at Halftime, and then held on against an attempted Blue Streaks rally to win the game 35-26.

Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves helmets NEWROAD WARRIORS – The NEBRASKA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRAIRIE WOLVES were impressive in a 31-6 victory at the EUREKA COLLEGE RED DEVILS   ###   Elsewhere, the UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND NOR’EASTERS notched a 17-10 road win over the COAST GUARD ACADEMY BEARS   ###   And the POMONA-PITZER COLLEGE SAGEHENS won 44-21 at the WILLAMETTE UNIVERSITY BEARCATS.

Christopher Newport CaptainsWE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME, BUT A BASEBALL GAME BROKE OUT – The CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY CAPTAINS found themselves on the road against the WASHINGTON & LEE UNIVERSITY GENERALS. After a scoreless opening Quarter the Captains went up 6-0 by the Half. Each team scored a Field Goal in the 4th Quarter as CNU won it 9-3.

New Mexico Mil Inst BroncosBATTLE IN THE TOP FIVE – The number 1 team in the land – the defending National Champion NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE BRONCOS (should be the Cavalry) – welcomed the 5th ranked SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS. A scoreless 1st Quarter was followed by NMMI seizing a 21-0 lead by Halftime. The Broncos kept up the pressure from there for a 38-7 triumph.

Hutchinson Blue DragonsHUTCH IS HOT – The 3rd ranked HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS traveled to face the ELLSWORTH COLLEGE PANTHERS. The Blue Dragons led 14-7 in the opening Quarter and shut out the Panthers the rest of the way. Meanwhile, Hutchinson College piled on the points for a SEVENTY to Seven victory.

Northwest Mississippi College Rangers blueCLOSE CALL FOR NUMBER FOUR – The 4th ranked NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE RANGERS took the field against the visiting MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COLLEGE BULLDOGS in this game. The Rangers were on top 18-10 at the midpoint, but the Bulldogs cut that to a 21-17 advantage to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th NMC won out 28-24.

Mesabi TechBLOWOUTS – The MESABI RANGE COLLEGE NORSE trounced their guests the VERMILION COLLEGE IRONMEN to the tune of 55-0   ###   Meanwhile, the BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES won 45-3 at the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES   ###   And the IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS routed their hosts the GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS 40-21.
