AND YET ANOTHER DISILLUSIONED LEFTIST JOINS THE REST OF US IN RECOGNIZING THE FASCISM OF THE DEMOCRATS WHO SEIZED THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS

educa smallerIn this Portland State University instructor’s resignation letter regular readers of Balladeer’s Blog will recognize echoes of my own disgust with the way the American Left and especially the Democrat Party are now the most intolerant and fascistic elements of American life. Peter Boghossian is the assistant professor of philosophy in question.

Below is his published letter of resignation. None of it will seem new to those of us who have watched the Democrats distort the educational process over the years. I have published literally dozens of these accounts, but here is the latest one for any people who have not yet accepted that American colleges and universities have become “churches” of irrational thought and fascistic political intolerance. PETER BOGHOSSIAN: MY UNIVERSITY SACRIFICED IDEAS FOR IDEOLOGY. SO TODAY I QUIT.

Peter Boghossian has taught philosophy at Portland State University for the past decade. In the letter below, sent this morning to the university’s provost, he explains why he is resigning.

“Dear Provost Susan Jeffords,

I’m writing to you today to resign as assistant professor of philosophy at Portland State University.

Over the last decade, it has been my privilege to teach at the university. My specialties are critical thinking, ethics and the Socratic method, and I teach classes like Science and Pseudoscience and The Philosophy of Education. But in addition to exploring classic philosophers and traditional texts, I’ve invited a wide range of guest lecturers to address my classes, from Flat-Earthers to Christian apologists to global climate skeptics to Occupy Wall Street advocates. I’m proud of my work.

I invited those speakers not because I agreed with their worldviews, but primarily because I didn’t. From those messy and difficult conversations, I’ve seen the best of what our students can achieve: questioning beliefs while respecting believers; staying even-tempered in challenging circumstances; and even changing their minds.

I never once believed — nor do I now — that the purpose of instruction was to lead my students to a particular conclusion. Rather, I sought to create the conditions for rigorous thought; to help them gain the tools to hunt and furrow for their own conclusions. This is why I became a teacher and why I love teaching.

But brick by brick, the university has made this kind of intellectual exploration impossible. It has transformed a bastion of free inquiry into a Social Justice factory whose only inputs were race, gender, and victimhood and whose only outputs were grievance and division.

education conveyor belt smallerStudents at Portland State are not being taught to think. Rather, they are being trained to mimic the moral certainty of ideologues. Faculty and administrators have abdicated the university’s truth-seeking mission and instead drive intolerance of divergent beliefs and opinions. This has created a culture of offense where students are now afraid to speak openly and honestly.

I noticed signs of the illiberalism that has now fully swallowed the academy quite early during my time at Portland State. I witnessed students refusing to engage with different points of view. Questions from faculty at diversity trainings that challenged approved narratives were instantly dismissed. Those who asked for evidence to justify new institutional policies were accused of microaggressions. And professors were accused of bigotry for assigning canonical texts written by philosophers who happened to have been European and male.

At first, I didn’t realize how systemic this was and I believed I could question this new culture. So I began asking questions. What is the evidence that trigger warnings and safe spaces contribute to student learning? Why should racial consciousness be the lens through which we view our role as educators? How did we decide that “cultural appropriation” is immoral?

Unlike my colleagues, I asked these questions out loud and in public.

I decided to study the new values that were engulfing Portland State and so many other educational institutions — values that sound wonderful, like diversity, equity, and inclusion, but might actually be just the opposite. The more I read the primary source material produced by critical theorists, the more I suspected that their conclusions reflected the postulates of an ideology, not insights based on evidence.

I began networking with student groups who had similar concerns and brought in speakers to explore these subjects from a critical perspective. And it became increasingly clear to me that the incidents of illiberalism I had witnessed over the years were not just isolated events, but part of an institution-wide problem.

The more I spoke out about these issues, the more retaliation I faced. Continue reading

FACULTY LOUNGE FASCIST ROUNDUP: OCTOBER 6th

educa smallerIt’s the latest installment of Faculty Lounge Fascist Roundup! It’s no secret that privileged white Democrats aka “baizuos” have distorted the educational system into a partisan “church” of irrational thought and ugly intolerance.

Their discriminatory hiring practices have long been apparent in the number of Democrats vs non-Democrats in the faculty and ESPECIALLY administrative staff. If NON-Democrats were over 90% of the staff at colleges and universities you can bet Democrat elected officials would have looked out for their constituents and addressed that imbalance and bias long ago. WE NEED THIRD PARTIES!

education conveyor belt smallerITEM ONE – Midwestern State University Professor Nathan Jun recently wrote on a social media thread “I want the entire world to burn until the last cop is strangled with the intestines of the last capitalist, who is strangled in turn with the intestines of the last politician.”

As we’ve all seen over and over and over again, people have been hounded from jobs in education and elsewhere for social media posts saying “All lives matter” or “Blue lives matter” or for making any statement of support for political candidates that Democrat fascists dislike. But in this case the university in question hypocritically pretended to care about “free speech.” Click HERE

FACULTY LOUNGE FASCIST ROUNDUP: APRIL 10th

Education or indoctrination gifTime for another look at how fascist Democrats have distorted the “educational system” (LMAO) and transformed colleges and universities into churches of irrational thought and political intolerance.

*** PHILIP CARL SALZMAN, who courageously works for educational reform in the face of Democrat intolerance, produced another thought-provoking piece. The link is below but first some excerpts:

“Universities in the 20th century were dedicated to the advancement of knowledge. Scholarship and research were pursued, and diverse opinions were exchanged and argued in the “marketplace of ideas.”

“This is no longer the case. Particularly in the social sciences, humanities, education, social work, and law, a single political ideology has replaced scholarship and research, because the ideology presents fixed answers to all questions.

” … there is no longer diversity of opinion. Only those committed to the ideology are admitted to academic staff or administration.” (NOTE FROM BALLADEER: Which is why I call colleges and universities “Churches of irrational thought and political intolerance.”)

” … while racism is held to be the highest sin in the West, and slavery the greatest of our historical sins, your children will learn that we are not allowed to criticize contemporary racism and slavery in Africa, the Middle East, and the equivalents in South Asia.”

Voltaire“Postcolonialism posits that all of the problems in societies around the world today are the result of the relatively short Western imperial dominance and colonization. For example, British imperialism is blamed for what are in fact indigenous cultures, such as the South Asian caste system and the African tribal system.”

This ahistorical approach of postcolonialism ignores the hundreds of empires and their colonies throughout history, as well as ignoring contemporary empires, such as the Arab Muslim Empire that conquered all of the central Middle East, North Africa, southern Europe, Persia, Central Asia, and northern India, and occupied them minimally for hundreds of years, but 1400 years in the central Middle East and North Africa, and occupy them today … Postcolonialists have nothing to say about any of this; they wish to condemn exclusively the West.

*** AND … on a lighter note, there’s this article about Democrat “teachers” (LMAO) telling their students that the “OK” sign is a symbol of White Supremacy. (How foolish does someone have to be to believe this?)

FACULTY LOUNGE FASCIST ROUNDUP: MARCH 20th

Education indoctrination conveyor beltEver wonder where people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez get the irrational gibberish they spout? Thank a teacher! (And remember, AOC has a degree from Boston University … a degree in economics. LMAO) Here’s another look at the way Democrats have distorted the educational system into a one-party practice in bias and irrational thought.

education limits your imaginationProfessor Sam Abrams at Sarah Lawrence College is accused of a Thought Crime because he spoke out in support of ideological diversity. DOZENS of Democrats in the faculty joined with students in demanding that Abrams be fired for this modest suggestion. (Hey, Democrats are such criminals they consider getting people fired to be “making their bones.”)

On top of that those faculty Democrats and the brainless Ocasio-Cortezes in training issued additional demands (don’t be shocked). Among those demands:

*** The racist demand that “students of color” should never be taught history by white professors.

*** The very revealing demand that students have unlimited access to therapy sessions. (Pretending to be college students is apparently very traumatic.)

*** The imbecilic demand for free laundry detergent and free fabric softener. (I’m not joking.)

And much much more! CLICK HERE and HERE Continue reading
