NJCAA CHAMPS DECIDED, TWO NCAA SERIES STILL ROLLING

NJCAA DIVISION ONE

Central Arizona College Vaqueros NEWCHAMPIONSHIP GAME: The CENTRAL ARIZONA COLLEGE VAQUEROS took on the IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS yesterday. The 1st Inning was an embarrassment to both defenses and ended in a 7-4 Reivers lead.

From there the Vaqueros would only permit Iowa Western College to drive in 1 more Run in the 6th Inning while keeping their own bats red-hot. Central Arizona College won the game by a final score of 13-8 behind the pitching of Mitchell DeCovich. * THE VAQUEROS ARE CHAMPIONS OF NJCAA BASEBALL *

NCAA DIVISION TWO

centralmissourimulesDAY ONE, GAME ONE: The 5 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES – clashed with the 4th seeded ASHLAND UNIVERSITY EAGLES. The Mules parlayed a 1-0 edge in the 1st Inning into a 5-0 advantage by the 2nd.

The 4th Inning ended with the University of Central Missouri on top 7-2 and the 5th in a 9-2 Mules lead. The Eagles would trim that to 9-4 in the 7th Inning but that ended the scoring as 9-4 also wound up being the final tally. Ben Kelsch pitched for the win.

Colorado Mesa University Mavericks logoDAY ONE, GAME TWO: This game pitted the top seeded COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY MAVERICKS against the 8 seeds – the NEW YORK TECH BEARS. After a scoreless opening Inning the Mavericks went up 7-0 in the 2nd.

By the 4th Inning Colorado Mesa University was on top 9-3 before expanding that lead to 11-3 in the 6th. The Bears could muster just 1 more Run in the 7th Inning as the Mavericks won it 11-4. The triumphant Pitcher was Trevin Reynolds. 

NCAA DIVISION THREE

Washington and Jefferson Presidents logoDAY TWO, GAME ONE: The WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON COLLEGE PRESIDENTS faced the WEBSTER UNIVERSITY GORLOKS in this elimination game. A 2-0 Presidents edge in the 1st Inning became 3-2 in the 2nd.

The rest of the game was a Pitcher’s Duel in which no more Runs were scored by either team, making 3-2 the final count as well for Washington & Jefferson College. Pitching for the win was Nick Drake.

Boston BeaconsDAY TWO, GAME TWO: The UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS AT BOSTON BEACONS squared off against the CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY PANTHERS. The 1st Inning ended in a 1-1 tie before the Beacons took charge in the 2nd by a tally of 6-1.

UMass-Boston expanded that advantage to 9-2 in the 3rd Inning with the Panthers moving to within 9-4 by the end of the 7th. Chapman University outscored the Beacons 2-1 in the final pair of Innings, falling to their opponents 10-6. Dylan Fashempour threw for the win.

Babson College BeaversDAY TWO, GAME THREE: The BABSON COLLEGE BEAVERS found themselves facing the HEIDELBERG UNIVERSITY STUDENT PRINCES. The first 4 Innings of this game were a Pitcher’s Duel in which neither team scored.

In the 5th Inning the Student Princes went up 1-0 before making that a 3-0 edge in the 6th. Headed into the 9th Inning Heidelberg University led the Beavers 3-1 but Babson College would have a huge Inning to win the game 6-5. The winning Pitcher was Ryan Vatcher.

Birmingham Southern College PanthersDAY TWO, GAME FOUR: Closing out Day Two was this game between the BIRMINGHAM SOUTHERN COLLEGE PANTHERS and the JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY BLUE JAYS. A 2-0 Blue Jays lead in the 1st Inning was cut to 2-1 in the 2nd.

3-1 was the lead for Johns Hopkins University in the 4th Inning but the Panthers knotted things up at 3-3 by the 8th. Neither team scored in the 9th but in the TENTH INNING, Birmingham Southern College managed a 4-3 victory. Pitcher Richie Misischia got the win.

    Very good! The NAIA at least has real student athletes.
