COLLEGE BASKETBALL: CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT RESULTS FROM FEBRUARY 26th

Cardinal Stritch Wolves logoCHICAGOLAND COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The CARDINAL STRITCH UNIVERSITY WOLVES, the defending national champions of NAIA2 basketball, had a bye in the 1st Round of the CCAC tournament. Last night they took the floor for the first time this postseason against the CALUMET COLLEGE CRIMSON WAVE and used a 20-2 run to help convert a 42-39 Halftime lead into a 76-59 victory.   ###   The ST XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS got off to a 16-0 start enroute to an 84-61 win over the ST FRANCIS (IL) FIGHTING SAINTS   ###   Meanwhile the ROBERT MORRIS (IL) EAGLES used an 11-3 run in the final minutes to defeat the HOLY CROSS COLLEGE SAINTS 78-70   ###   And the ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS and the OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS were tied up at 72-72 when Regulation ended. In Overtime the Lakers pulled off the upset by a final score of 88-84.

grace college USECROSSROADS LEAGUE – The GRACE COLLEGE LANCERS pulled off one of the big upsets of the opening night for the Crossroads League Tournament. The Lancers – Rachel Laird’s favorite team in the Crossroads League – were the 6 seeds but toppled the 3rd seeded HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY FORESTERS in a 56-54 defensive epic.   ###   For their part the SPRING ARBOR UNIVERSITY COUGARS were the stars of the other shocker from this conference last night. The 7th seeded Cougars dispatched the 2nd seeded ST FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS in a 63-55 affair.   ###   The 4th seeded BETHEL COLLEGE (IN) PILOTS (riverboat pilots) had no problem taking care of business and defeated the visiting 5 seeds, the MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS by a score of 67-52   ###   And in the top spot the Continue reading

The CENTRAL STATE MARAUDERS clobbered the visiting OHIO VALLEY UNIVERSITY FIGHTING SCOTS by a score of 106-78   ###   The STILLMAN TIGERS notched the same three-digit score to better the 82 points put up by the LANE COLLEGE DRAGONS   ###   Meanwhile the BELLARMINE UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS crushed the ST JOSEPH’S PUMAS in their own house 106-63.

CENTURY CLUB – DIVISION TWO – The SINCLAIR COLLEGE TARTAN PRIDE were hosting the COLUMBUS STATE COUGARS yesterday and put up 100 points to the 78 scored by their guests   ###   The ESSEX COUNTY COLLEGE WOLVERINES meanwhile outdid even the Tartan Pride by scoring an incredible 125 points on the road to defeat the MANOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS by a score of 125 to 96   ###   And the GLENDALE (AZ) COLLEGE GAUCHOS notched a tight 102-98 OT victory over the SOUTH MOUNTAIN COLLEGE COUGARS.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS FROM FEBRUARY 8th

Babson College BeaversNUMBER THREE TAKES A FALL – The BABSON COLLEGE BEAVERS hosted the 3rd-ranked team in the nation, the WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE ENGINEERS yesterday in a game that shocked the nation. By Halftime the unranked Beavers had compiled a 36-28 lead and didn’t let up in the 2nd Half, notching a 71-62 upset win when all was said and done. Babson was led by Joey Flannery with 20 points.

castleton_logo2YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING! – The CASTLETON STATE COLLEGE SPARTANS scored an unbelievable ONE HUNDRED THIRTY-SEVEN points yesterday! The Spartans were on the road against the GREEN MOUNTAIN COLLEGE EAGLES and scored 78 points in the FIRST HALF ALONE for a 38 point Halftime lead! That point total would have been enough to win an entire game in many instances but Castleton State was just warming up and went back home with a 137-97 win.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS FROM FEBRUARY 1st

SiouxFallsCougarsCOUGARS PREVAIL AT HOME – The UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS COUGARS welcomed the BEMIDJI STATE UNIVERSITY BEAVERS yesterday. The Cougars were beating up on the Beavers in the First Half and led by a score of 41-29 at Halftime but the Second Half became a different story. Bemidji State came roaring back (do beavers roar?) and actually outscored the homestanding USF in the Second Half but the Cougars held on to win by a final score of 87-78.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS FROM JANUARY 25th

TAMinternationaldustdevilsDUST DEVILS SMOKE THE PATRIOTS – The TEXAS A&M INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY DUST DEVILS took it on the road yesterday against the DALLAS BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PATRIOTS and defended their top spot in the Heartland Conference.

The Dust Devils were very much in control throughout the entire game and converted a 41-34 Halftime lead into a 90-71 victory by the time all was said and done. TAMIU improves to 15-4 for the season, 8-1 in Heartland Conference play. The Patriots fall to 6-10 overall, 3-6 in conference play.

Newman JetsHELLO, NEWMAN! – Staying in the Heartland Conference for the moment the NEWMAN UNIVERSITY JETS played host to the UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS OF THE PERMIAN BASIN FALCONS. missouri st louis tritonsTRITONS FISH UP A COMEBACK WIN – The UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT SAINT LOUIS TRITONS welcomed the QUINCY UNIVERSITY HAWKS yesterday. The Tritons found themselves trailing at Halftime by a score of 36-25 but came alive in the 2nd Half to win the game, led by Tylor Wimbish’s 27 points. The final score in this hardcourt epic was Tritons 75  Hawks 72.

St Mary's TX RattlersSNAKEBITTEN IN TRIPLE OVERTIME – The SAINT MARY’S UNIVERSITY (TX) RATTLERS likewise pulled off a comeback victory in yesterday’s action, but theirs was done on the road. The Rattlers had traveled to take on the TEXAS A&M INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY DUST DEVILS and found themselves down 29-28 at the break. In the end the Cougars went back home with a 127-120 victory   ###   Also in Double Overtime the MCPHERSON COLLEGE BULLDOGS defeated the visiting HASKELL INDIAN NATIONS UNIVERSITY INDIANS by a score of 112-105.

Bethany Swedes logoTHE BAHAMA HOUSE SHOOTOUT – The BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES took on the TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TROJANS in the semifinals of this tournament yesterday. The Swedes put up 92 points to the 82 scored by the Trojans   ###   And in the other semifinal the top-ranked host school, the EMBRY-RIDDLE AERONAUTICAL UNIVERSITY EAGLES came out on top in an 82-60 affair against the CENTRAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE TIGERS.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS FROM DECEMBER 28th, 2013

Stevens Point Pointers logo1NUMBER ONE CONTINUES TO ROLL – The top-ranked team in the nation, the UW-STEVENS POINT POINTERS faced a dire threat yesterday from the WHITWORTH UNIVERSITY PIRATES. Whitworth actually led the venerable Pointers at Halftime by a score of 45-43 but Stevens Point came out in the 2nd Half focused and ready to play. When all was said and done the Pointers improved to 9-0 with a 93-75 victory.

NAIA2 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: CSU TAKES THE TITLE!

Cardinal Stritch Wolves logoLast night’s NAIA Division Two National Championship Game saw the top 2 seeds in the tournament battling each other for the title. The top seeded WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN and the 2nd seeds, the CARDINAL STRITCH UNIVERSITY WOLVES, were the two teams left standing after all the hardcourt drama that had unfolded since the tournament started last Wednesday.

The Wolves shot 50% from the field enroute to a 73-59 victory over the Statesmen, giving Cardinal Stritch University its first ever NAIA national championship in basketball. The game was a very tight 39-36 at the break in favor of the Wolves but the 2nd half saw Stritch getting some separation and winding up wearing the 2013 crown. WPU outrebounded CSU 35-33 but were outdone by the Wolves in every other statistical category.
