DUST DEVILS SMOKE THE PATRIOTS – The TEXAS A&M INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY DUST DEVILS took it on the road yesterday against the DALLAS BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PATRIOTS and defended their top spot in the Heartland Conference.
The Dust Devils were very much in control throughout the entire game and converted a 41-34 Halftime lead into a 90-71 victory by the time all was said and done. TAMIU improves to 15-4 for the season, 8-1 in Heartland Conference play. The Patriots fall to 6-10 overall, 3-6 in conference play.
HELLO, NEWMAN! – Staying in the Heartland Conference for the moment the NEWMAN UNIVERSITY JETS played host to the UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS OF THE PERMIAN BASIN FALCONS. The Jets trailed at the break by a score of 45-38 and the 2nd Half didn’t look to be going much better at first. However a late run permitted Newman to walk away with a win by a final talley of 82-75.
CENTURY CLUB – The SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE OWLS put up 106 points to the 95 scored by the homestanding FRANKLIN PIERCE RAVENS ### Meanwhile the HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY TIGERS slashed the visiting POST UNIVERSITY EAGLES to ribbons in a 105-63 laugher ### The MISSOURI SOUTHERN LIONS likewise mauled the MISSOURI WESTERN GRIFFONS to the tune of 105-71 ### The LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY RAILSPLITTERS won 111-90 at the CATAWBA INDIANS ### And the GLENVILLE STATE PIONEERS topped the CONCORD UNIVERSITY MOUNTAIN LIONS 103-92.
JUST SHORT OF A CENTURY – The GOLDEY- BEACOM COLLEGE LIGHTNING came tantalizingly close to Century Club numbers yesterday. The Lightning were on the road against the FELICIAN COLLEGE GOLDEN FALCONS and defeated them by a score of 99-89. ### And the UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GREYHOUNDS also notched 99 points, beating the 91 scored by the homestanding MCKENDREE BEARCATS.
WORKING OVERTIME – The BYU-HAWAII SEASIDERS logged a road win in Overtime against the ACADEMY OF ART URBAN KNIGHTS. The final score in this thriller was Seasiders 112 Urban Knights 107. ### The BARTON COLLEGE BULLDOGS defeated the ERSKINE FLYING FLEET 68-65 in the extra session ### The ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO BOLL WEEVILS downed the visiting HENDERSON STATE REDDIES by a score of 75-72 ### And the QUEENS COLLEGE KNIGHTS won at the LIU-POST PIONEERS in OT 79-77.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT SPRINGFIELD PRAIRIE STARS played the visiting ST JOSEPH’S PUMAS in a hardcourt epic for the ages. In the end the Prairie Stars emerged with a 76-75 triumph. ### The ANDERSON (SC) UNIVERSITY TROJANS eked out an 85-84 win over the QUEENS UNIVERSITY OF CHARLOTTE ROYALS ### And the ECKERD COLLEGE TRITONS stole a 79-75 road win at the FLORIDA TECH PANTHERS.
FORTY-TWO TWICE – The UNIVERSITY OF NORTH GEORGIA NIGHTHAWKS were on the road against the CLAYTON STATE UNIVERSITY LAKERS and put up exactly 42 points in both the first and second half of the game. The Lakers lagged a bit behind that offensive output and wound up losing to the Nighthawks in this 84-81 Instant Classic of a game.
VARYING DEGREES OF DOUBLE-DIGITS – The MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY MARAUDERS sent the visiting SHIPPENSBURG RED RAIDERS back home wincing from an 88-71 defeat ### Meanwhile the UNIVERSITY OF MONTEVALLO FALCONS won 82-71 at the ARMSTRONG ATLANTIC PIRATES ### And the LIMESTONE COLLEGE SAINTS clobbered the PFEIFFER FALCONS by a score of 96-79.
BATTLE OF COOL-NAMED TEAMS – The SONOMA STATE UNIVERSITY SEAWOLVES were visiting the CALIFORNIA STATE- MONTEREY BAY OTTERS yesterday. The Seawolves faced a 37-25 Halftime deficit but turned the tables on the Otters in the Second Half, ultimately going back home with a tight 68-66 road win under their belts.
DOWLING IS GOLDEN – The DOWLING COLLEGE GOLDEN LIONS welcomed the UNIVERSITY OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA FIREBIRDS to New York. The Golden Lions led the Firebirds 39-32 at the break and expanded upon their lead in the Second Half, going on to win the game by a final score of 73-55.
ROAD WARRIORS – The ALASKA- ANCHORAGE SEAWOLVES won at the ST MARTIN’S SAINTS by a score of 79-78 ### Meanwhile the BARRY UNIVERSITY BUCCANEERS beat the ROLLINS COLLEGE TARS (as in Jacktars) in a 79-77 nailbiter ### The LANDER UNIVERSITY BEARCATS came back to defeat the FLAGLER SAINTS by a score of 71-66 ### And the SAN FRANCISCO STATE GATORS took down the CAL STATE- EAST BAY PIONEERS 71-64.
HOMESTANDS – The REGIS UNIVERSITY RANGERS welcomed the COLORADO MESA MAVERICKS yesterday and handed them an 82-73 loss ### The NYACK COLLEGE WARRIORS survived a 74-71 invasion from the WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY WILDCATS ### The HOLY NAMES UNIVERSITY HAWKS won a 77-70 clash with the HAWAII PACIFIC UNIVERSITY SEA WARRIORS ### And the CONCORDIA (NY) CLIPPERS cut down the CHESTNUT HILL COLLEGE GRIFFINS by a final score of 70-63.
BUTTKICKINGS – The MOLLOY COLLEGE LIONS folded, spindled and mutilated the visiting NEW YORK INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY BEARS to the tune of 87-58 ### The UNIVERSITY OF FINDLAY OILERS meanwhile handed a body-slam of their own to the LAKE ERIE COLLEGE STORM. The final score in this affair was Oilers 74 Storm 49. ### And the TARLETON STATE TEXANS kicked around the EASTERN NEW MEXICO UNIVERSITY GREYHOUNDS in an 86-64 game.
DEFENSIVE EPICS – The CAL POLY-POMONA BRONCOS lead off this category this week. They faced the CAL STATE- STANISLAUS WARRIORS and led 28-20 at the Half before sending them home with a 58-46 loss. ### And to close out this category for this time around the ST AUGUSTINE’S COLLEGE FALCONS trailed the SHAW UNIVERSITY BEARS 25-22 at Halftime but came back to win by a tight score of 51-49.
