COLLEGE BASEBALL POSTSEASON RESULTS FROM YESTERDAY

* NJCAA3 *

Cumberland County College DukesDISTRICT G –   CHAMPIONSHIP GAME   –   Yesterday saw the district championship games for a variety of districts – among them District G. The CUMBERLAND COUNTY COLLEGE DUKES defeated the defending national champions in NJCAA3 baseball – the GLOUCESTER COLLEGE ROADRUNNERS.   The final score in this rout was 11-4.   CONGRATULATIONS TO THE DUKES! (2014 record – 46-8)

Suffolk County Sharks logoDISTRICT F –   CHAMPIONSHIP GAME   –   The title for District F was battled over by the SUFFOLK COUNTY COLLEGE SHARKS and the NASSAU COLLEGE LIONS. In the clash between these two kings of their respective elements it was all Sharks. Suffolk County College eviscerated the Lions SEVENTEEN to ONE! CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SHARKS! THE LATEST COLLEGE BASEBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS

cumberland-logoMID-SOUTH CONFERENCE – In yesterday’s thrilling finale to this league’s tourney the 2nd seeded CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS fell to the top seeded GEORGETOWN (KY) COLLEGE TIGERS 5-3 to force a second game. In that decisive title tilt the Bulldogs won a 10 Inning game for the ages by a score of 10-8. Along the way Cumberland University also defeated Lindsey Wilson College and St Catharine College.   *** CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BULLDOGS, THE MSC CHAMPS FOR 2014. 

Spring Arbor U CougarsCROSSROADS LEAGUE – In a case of Cougar on Cougar violence rivalled only by the old Joan Collins/ Linda Evans catfights on reruns of Dynasty the 3rd seeded SPRING ARBOR UNIVERSITY COUGARS did battle with the top seeded MT VERNON NAZARENE UNIVERSITY COUGARS. The cats from Spring Arbor University won the league crown by a final score of 10-5. COLLEGE BASEBALL: CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT RESULTS FROM MAY 6th

Viterbo V-HawksMIDWEST COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE – The top two seeds in this conference – the VITERBO UNIVERSITY V-HAWKS and the AIB COLLEGE OF BUSINESS EAGLES – were the last teams standing in this tournament. The top seeded V-Hawks (love that name) absolutely hammered the Eagles 9-0 to take the title.   ***   CONGRATULATIONS TO THE V-HAWKS, THE MCC CHAMPIONS FOR 2014.

point universityAPPALACHIAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – On Day Two for this conference tournament the 6th seeded POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS defeated the 7th seeded MILLIGAN COLLEGE BUFFALOES in a 3-0 shutout   ###   The 4th seeded ST ANDREWS UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS eliminated the 8th seeded VIRGINIA INTERMONT COLLEGE COBRAS, likewise in a 3-0 blanking   ###   Meanwhile the 5 seeds – the BRYAN (TN) LIONS shocked the nation with a TWENTY-THREE to SIX annihilation of the top seeded TENNESSEE WESLEYAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS    ###   And the 2nd seeded REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES bounced the disappointing 3 seeds – the UNION(KY) BULLDOGS 12-9 in the proverbial “0-2 and a barbecue”.  Continue reading

William Woods OwlsAMERICAN MIDWEST CONFERENCE – The top seeded MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS advanced to the title game by eliminating the 4th seeded FREED HARDEMAN UNIVERSITY LIONS by a score of 4-2   ###   And in the second game the 3rd seeded WILLIAM WOODS UNIVERSITY OWLS mauled and mangled the Spartans in a 10-0 laugher. Along the way the Owls also defeated Park University and Lyon College.   ***   CONGRATULATIONS TO THE OWLS, THE AMC CHAMPS FOR 2014.

Bacone Warriors logoRED RIVER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The top seeded LSU- SHREVEPORT PILOTS (riverboat pilots) eliminated the 5th seeded TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS by a score of 13-9 to advance to the title game   ###   In that title game the 3 seeds – the BACONE COLLEGE WARRIORS – defeated the Pilots in a 7-4 thriller. Along the way the Warriors also defeated Jarvis Christian College.   ***   CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BACONE COLLEGE WARRIORS, THE RRAC CHAMPS FOR 2014. 

British Columbia ThunderbirdsCALIFORNIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE/ CASCADE CONFERENCE COMBINE – In the 2 spot the CONCORDIA (OR) CAVALIERS defeated the 3rd seeded CORBAN UNIVERSITY WARRIORS  4-2 in order to move on to the championship game   ###   Then the top seeded UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA THUNDERBIRDS went on to beat those Cavaliers 4-1 for the crown. Huntington College Foresters logoCROSSROADS LEAGUE – In a THIRTEEN INNING marathon the 4th seeded HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY FORESTERS at last emerged with a 3-2 victory over the 5th seeded ST FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS   ###   The 7th seeded MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS had the upset of the day by bringing down the 2 seeds – the TAYLOR UNIVERSITY TROJANS – in a 9-8 Instant Classic   ###   The top seeded MT VERNON NAZARENE UNIVERSITY COUGARS nearly doubled- up on the 8th seeded GRACE COLLEGE LANCERS  11-6   ###   And the 6th seeded INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS got drubbed by the 3rd seeded SPRING ARBOR UNIVERSITY COUGARS in a 10-0 laugher.

Viterbo V-HawksMIDWEST COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE – The top seeded VITERBO UNIVERSITY V-HAWKS (how can you not love that name) had their hands full with the 4th seeded WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN but prevailed 2-0   ###   The 2nd seeded AIB COLLEGE OF BUSINESS EAGLES (who should change their name to the Magnates) had to hang on themselves to win a 2-1 epic of the diamond with the 3rd seeded ST AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES   ### And the (4) Statesmen notched a 1-1 record for the day by defeating the 5th seeded GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS  7-1.    Continue reading

COLLEGE BASEBALL POSTSEASON ACTION CONTINUES

El Camino College logoSO-CAL DIVISION: PLAY-IN ROUND – GAME ONE – The game of the day yesterday was this classic of the diamond played between the 17th seeded EL CAMINO COLLEGE WARRIORS and the 16th seeded MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES. After two scoreless Innings the Warriors put up a run in the top of the 3rd with the Mounties eventually tying things up in the bottom of the 6th. El Camino College responded with another run of their own in the top of the 7th Inning and rode that ball to a 2-1 victory. Credit Andrew Burschinger with the win.  

66_eastlosangeleslogo.GIF (120×160) SO-CAL DIVISION: PLAY-IN ROUND – GAME TWO – This game pitted the 15th seeded EAST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE HUSKIES against the 18 seeds – the COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS COUGARS. The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd Inning but by the bottom of the 3rd the Huskies had tied the game up. In the 5th and 7th Innings College of the Canyons logged a pair of runs to make it a 4-2 Cougar advantage. In the bottom of the 7th East Los Angeles College again knotted up the game. After the Cougars went on top again 5-4 in the top of the 8th the Huskies used their half of the Inning to take their first lead of the game at 6-5, which turned out to be the final score, too. East L.A.’s closer Shawn Kennedy got the win.  Continue reading

CYPRESS COLLEGE CHARGERS ARE 2013 CCCAA BASEBALL CHAMPIONS

Cypress College ChargersThe CYPRESS COLLEGE CHARGERS won the CCCAA baseball championship for the FIFTH time and the first time since 2003. Their opponents were the FULLERTON COLLEGE HORNETS, who led 1-0 after the 1st inning, the last time they would lead in the game. The Chargers put up multiple runs in the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 8th while giving up just 2 more runs themselves for a 10-3 victory.
