TWENTY COOLEST-NAMED JUCO SPORTS TEAMS

Like all levels of college sports, the JUCO ranks have waaaay too many teams called Tigers, Eagles, Bulldogs and Wildcats, but here are the 20 Coolest Names.

20. BAKERSFIELD RENEGADES

 Location: Bakersfield, CA

Comment: If you “walk the streets of Bakersfield” you’re bound to hear about the Renegades, who have a nickname cool enough to be a rock group or a band of mercenaries in the notoriously bad post-apocalypse movie 2020 Texas Gladiators. Hard to believe in just a few years the country will be full of those marauding gangs, isn’t it?

19. HIGHLAND SCOTTIES

Location: Highland, KS

Comment: You just knew a dog lover like me would include this team! And there’s no truth to the rumor that their original mascot was Star Trek’s James Doohan standing on the sidelines and saying “I need more time, Cap’n!”

18. ASA AVENGERS

Location: New York, NY

Comment: Insert your own Emma Peal or “Why is the Avengers movie taking so long?” joke here. This school has one seriously cool nickname and logo, don’t they? T-shirt sales must be through the roof! And I’m sure their call to practice is either “We’re needed” or “Avengers Assemble!”

17. GARDEN CITY BRONCBUSTERS

Location: Garden City, KS

Comments: No, that’s not a typo, they go by Broncbusters, not BroncObusters. Under any name and in any sport they kick major butts. And you just haven’t busted until you’ve Broncbusted, y’know? Continue reading

COLLEGE BASEBALL POSTSEASON ACTION CONTINUES

El Camino College logoSO-CAL DIVISION: PLAY-IN ROUND – GAME ONE – The game of the day yesterday was this classic of the diamond played between the 17th seeded EL CAMINO COLLEGE WARRIORS and the 16th seeded MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES. After two scoreless Innings the Warriors put up a run in the top of the 3rd with the Mounties eventually tying things up in the bottom of the 6th. El Camino College responded with another run of their own in the top of the 7th Inning and rode that ball to a 2-1 victory. Credit Andrew Burschinger with the win.

The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd Inning but by the bottom of the 3rd the Huskies had tied the game up. In the 5th and 7th Innings College of the Canyons logged a pair of runs to make it a 4-2 Cougar advantage. In the bottom of the 7th East Los Angeles College again knotted up the game. After the Cougars went on top again 5-4 in the top of the 8th the Huskies used their half of the Inning to take their first lead of the game at 6-5, which turned out to be the final score, too. East L.A.’s closer Shawn Kennedy got the win.  Continue reading

The Mounties took the National Central Conference crown and in the National Bowl will take on the SADDLEBACK COLLEGE GAUCHOS, the champions of the National Southern Conference. This game is the first semifinal in the SCFA.

BALLADEER’S BLOG’S PRESEASON POLL FOR CCCAA COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Welcome to Balladeer’s Blog’s 2012 CCCAA College Football Preseason Poll. The 2012 season for the divisions covered here kicks off on August 22nd!

The Rams are at number two, so these two powerhouse teams are threatening to become to CCCAA football what Whitewater and Mt Union are to NCAA Division 3 football!

1. Mount San Antonio College (Called “Mt SAC” for short) Mounties   ###   2. City College of San Francisco Rams (defending champs)   ###   3. Riverside Tigers   ###   4.
