JUNE 2017’s BEST

Balladeer’s Blog’s Best of 2017 continues!

Democrat sloganNUMBER ONE – Hatred is in the DNA of the Democrats. One of the worst ways that it manifests itself is the way Democrats are so often the cause of the atrocities they then blame on everyone else. Slavery, the Trail of Tears, Japanese Internment, the Ku Klux Klan, the Spoils System, Tammany Hall, Jim Crow, you name it.

This DEMOCRAT ATROCITY ROUNDUP takes a look at just a few of the outrages that the Party of the Democrats – the American Institution MOST responsible for them – tries to say that THEY are free from guilt over but claims that “the nation as a whole” should bear guilt for forever. CLICK HERE

Nth Man 2NUMBER TWO – From my Ancient/ Vintage Science Fiction category came this review of an unjustly neglected tale. The Nth Man is a gigantic, Kaiju-sized man with green shell-like skin who does battle with military and political powerhouses in America of the “future” 1930s.

For THE Nth MAN: (1920) – VINTAGE SCIENCE FICTION click HERE

Mascot with demo and repub headsNUMBER THREE – The pampered white children of privilege who pretend to be “the resistance” (LMAO) against President Donald Trump are a joke. They are the oppressors while trying to pretend they are the oppressed.

For RESISTANCE, INC: THE FAUX REBELS OF THE ANTI-TRUMP HYSTERIA click HERE

alien covenant 2NUMBER FOUR – Alien: Covenant had been out for awhile by this point and Balladeer’s Blog reviewed it as the comedy that it is.

You mean it’s NOT a comedy?

I beg to differ.

NUMBER FIVE – Finishing off the Top Five from June here is 6-14’s NEVER ACCEPT CENSORSHIP. Click HERE

SCROOGE (1935)

Balladeer’s Blog’s Eighth Annual Christmas Carol-A-Thon continues!

Scrooge 1935SCROOGE (1935) – This is the notoriously cheapjack and rushed version of A Christmas Carol.

It is almost unwatchable if you’re not a lover of bad movies like I am. And we are talking lame, lame LAME!  Continue reading

MAY 2017’s BEST

Balladeer’s Blog’s Best of 2017 resumes with this look at May.

mapNUMBER ONE – Hillary Clinton and her deluded supporters kept manufacturing excuses about her humiliating LOSS to President Donald Trump. (Red counties on map- TRUMP, blue ones – Hillary) The funniest ones involve the way Hillary and her supporters had no clue about how the Electoral College works. No, Hillary-drones, winning California and New York by large margins does NOT make you president – those numbers are meaningless statistics.

This article examining how PRESIDENT TRUMP EVEN DEFEATED HILLARY CLINTON AT IRRELEVANT STATS looked at how Trump crushed Hillary in terms of counties won, states won and geographical area won, but those, too, would have been as meaningless as Hillary’s popular vote in California and New York (LMAO) if he had not won the Electoral College. CLICK HERE

The Comic bigNUMBER TWO – Balladeer’s Blog’s reviews of bad movies – the more obscure the better – always attract a lot of attention.

In May I reviewed THE COMIC (1985) a bizarre sci-fi/ horror/ post-apocalypse/ art film which boggles the mind with its weirdness. How much of that weirdness was deliberate and how much was caused by ineptitude on the part of the filmmakers? Well, you can decide for yourself. CLICK HERE

Dr Frank N Furter

NUMBER THREE – My examinations of Ancient Greek Comedies often strike a chord with readers, especially the ones with lots of sex or political jokes in them.

BAPTAE (415-413 B.C.) had a lot going on, including the memorable anecdote about Eupolis – the comedy’s author – running afoul of Alcibiades aboard ship. CLICK HERE

Trump doing rightNUMBER FOUR – Balladeer’s Blog often hypes the need for Third Parties in the U.S. to start whittling down the power of those two rival gangs of white collar criminals called Democrats (DemCorp) and Republicans (RepubCorp).

Donald Trump is a de facto Third Party President. That’s because – unlike garbage like Barack Obama and George W Bush – President Trump is NOT a career politician. American career politicians are among the lowest life-forms on the planet. For confirmation of how well the Donald rocks the crooked boat of American politics see PRESIDENT TRUMP: INFURIATING ALL THE RIGHT PEOPLE by CLICKING HERE

Star by C I Defontenay betterNUMBER FIVE – Ancient Science Fiction reviews have become a staple here at Balladeer’s Blog.

In May the most popular review of an ancient or vintage science fiction story was STAR: PSI CASSIOPEIA (1854) a “Tolkien in Space” style look at multiple planets in a Trinary Star System. CLICK HERE

MARCH 2017’s BEST

I’m very, very ill today so here’s just a look at the Best of March here at Balladeer’s Blog.

bill-paxtonNUMBER ONE – With the passing of eccentric actor Bill Paxton I wanted to do an appropriately weird movie of his to give him an authentic Balladeer’s Blog sendoff.

The movie I decided on was Paxton’s often forgotten flick TAKING TIGER MOUNTAIN (1983).

The link to that film review is right HERE

sjws-always-lieNUMBER TWO – SJW’s are among the saddest and most pathetic people alive.

Though they are nothing more than petty informants whose only power comes from the higher authorities they run sniveling to, they laughably consider themselves to be “activists.”

To read SJW’s: LOSERS OR JUST FOOLS? click HERE

TrainNUMBER THREE – In March I reviewed the 1888 novel A MEXICAN MYSTERY.

That work of Ancient Science Fiction was ahead of its time and dealt with a train engine so well-designed it achieved sentience and began attacking, killing and even feeding on human beings to fuel itself.

Long before Skynet, there was “the Engine.” Click HERE

Mascot with demo and repub headsNUMBER FOUR – Just as Balladeer’s Blog features Liberals moving on from that outdated label I also feature Conservatives moving on from THAT outdated label.

Here’s a self-described Conservative fed up with the likes of Karl “Miss Piggy” Rove, Kevin Williamson, George Will, Bill Kristol and the repulsive Bush family. Click HERE

TNTNUMBER FIVE – Superheroes are everywhere these days.

Among Balladeer’s Blog’s most popular posts in recent years have been the ones dealing with neglected superheroes and superheroines.

For a look at the neglected CENTAUR COMICS SUPERHERO PANTHEON click HERE

BALLADEER’S BLOG IS SEVEN YEARS OLD TODAY

Mascot FOUR original pics

Balladeer’s Blog

THANK YOU once again to all of you readers for making Balladeer’s Blog so enjoyable to write. As I always say the weird and controversial items I churn out here mean that readers have to be very secure in their own beliefs not to just take offense and leave.

Here’s a look at Glitternight.com’s six biggest hits since last June 21st:

bellona-and-rennellMOST POPULAR MYTHOLOGY POST OF THE PAST TWELVE MONTHS: GODS OF BELLONA AND RENNELL ISLANDS

People who enjoyed my examinations of myths from various other Polynesian island groups were especially enthusiastic about this blog post. There are similarities to figures from Hawaiian and Samoan beliefs plus deities unique to these two islands.

TrainMOST POPULAR ANCIENT SCI FI POST OF THE PAST TWELVE MONTHS: A MEXICAN MYSTERY (1888)

A story that was far ahead of its time in the whole “revolt of the machines” sub-genre of science fiction. In 1800s Mexico an inventor devises a revolutionary train engine that is so independent and capable that it soon goes on a rampage of destruction … and eventually starts using human beings as food.

Kid Russell

MOST POPULAR GUNSLINGER LEGEND OF THE PAST TWELVE MONTHS: KID RUSSELL: GUNSLINGER TURNED ARTIST

Charles Marion Russell aka Kid Russell was a real-life internationally-renowned artist who spent his younger years roaming the old west. Russell is often considered the finest painter and sculptor of depictions of America’s frontier era. Before he made the art he LIVED it. Continue reading

THANK YOU once again to all of you readers for making Balladeer’s Blog so enjoyable to write. As I always say the weird and controversial items I churn out here mean that readers have to be very secure in their own beliefs not to just take offense and leave. Here’s a look at Glitternight.com’s six biggest hits since lastJune 21st:

Nyanga territoryMOST POPULAR MYTHOLOGY POST OF THE PAST TWELVE MONTHS:  TOP GODS OF THE NYANGA PEOPLE (AFRICA)

Gods who gamble, river gods, star gods who run a celestial courtroom and much, much more including the semi-divine hero Mwindo.  This one barely beat out the Philippine Epic Myth about the god Baybayan.

Birds by Aristophanes 2MOST POPULAR ANCIENT GREEK COMEDY POST OF THE PAST TWELVE MONTHS:  THE BIRDS BY ARISTOPHANES

There was an EXPLOSION of controversy over this post which examined the original work AND explored how The Birds could be applied to the anti-intellectual madhouses called colleges here in America. Aristophanes wrote “In Cloud Cuckooland things become what they are called rather than being called what they are.” I made that “In Ivory Towerland things become what they are called rather than being called what they are.”  And off I went …

Maldoror and his smile by Lord Orlando

MOST POPULAR CONTINUING FEATURE OF THE PAST TWELVE MONTHS:  THE SONGS OF MALDOROR (1868)

Technically this feature began in February of 2015 but was so lengthy it didn’t wrap up until August of 2015, thus putting it within the past year, at least partially.

This work of horror was the darkest, most deranged and graphically violent item I’ve ever covered here at Balladeer’s Blog.

Mascot with demo and repub heads

MOST POPULAR  “LIBERALS AND CONSERVATIVES” POST OF THE PAST TWELVE MONTHS:  LIBERALS AND CONSERVATIVES AND ART

This item took a look at one of the many ways that the hypersensitive, judgmental and censorship-crazed American Liberals have become even more intolerant than the worst Christian Conservatives.

And that’s the truth.

Irshadmanji

MOST POPULAR POST ABOUT MUSLIM FASCISM IN THE PAST TWELVE MONTHS:  WOMEN WHO FIGHT MUSLIM OPPRESSION

A look at Irshad Manji, Ayaan Hirsi Ali and many other women who show the backbone to take on the greatest oppressors of women in this day and age: the Muslim World.

These women deserve much more notoriety than they currently enjoy.

MOST POPULAR TEXAS 27 FILM VAULT POST OF THE PAST TWELVE MONTHS:  THANKSGIVING TURKEYS ON THE TEXAS TWENTY-SEVEN FILM VAULT

A Turkey Day look at some of Randy and Richard’s most storied episodes, featuring movies like It! The Terror From Beyond Space, The Giant Claw, The Party Crashers, Return of the Fly and many, many more!

BALLADEER’S BLOG MARKS NEW MILESTONE: THANK YOU

Balladeer’s Blog hit a new single- day high for hits on Saturday, October 8th. That new high for a single day is 12,577. Thank all of you for reading and for spreading the word about my odd combination of college sports, mythology, bad movies, ancient Greek comedies and forgotten history. I’ve had an interesting time writing this blog and have blazed my own trail, much to the annoyance of one or two long- time bloggers who live up to the outdated negative stereotype of bloggers being people who act like the Comic Book Guy on the Simpsons. 99% of the people I’ve gotten to interact with have been interesting and courteous and  Continue reading

8 BLOGS THAT MAKE LIFE WORTH LIVING

Recently a few of my fellow bloggers were kind enough to bestow awards on me, and the awards come with some challenges. The easy part is naming other blogs here at WP that I love to read. The other part involved fitting  some of my blog posts to various categories. I’ll do the difficult part first – some of my most memorable and/or controversial blog posts –

1. MY MOST BEAUTIFUL POST – I’ll use this one since I used it to pay some deserved compliments to two of the greatest friends anyone could ask for – Noralee and Bill – https://glitternight.com/2010/11/18/special-guest-commentators-oolong-and-pekoe-ask-whats-up-with-all-these-teams-called-tigers/

2. MY MOST POPULAR POST – It may be its longevity that has given it the cumulative edge, but it’s my very first blog post, from June 21st of 2010. It’s a funny (?) list – https://glitternight.com/2010/06/21/the-20-coolest-named-college-sports-teams-you-may-have-never-heard-of-naia-edition/

3. MY MOST CONTROVERSIAL POSTS – Here Continue reading

MOVIE HOSTS: STELLA FROM SATURDAY NIGHT DEAD (1984-1990)

This beautiful redhead is Stella, aka the Maneater from Manayunk (a section of  Philadelphia), as portrayed by the talented Karen Scioli. There are plenty of color photos of Stella out there but I think this b&w pic best captures her spirit. Karen Scioli wrote most of her material herself, in the style of Rich Koz, and was a stand-up comic before becoming a movie hostess.

People who like my bad movie reviews tend to like practicioners of the American folk-art of movie hosting and Karen Scioli was one of the best. And with all due respect to Elvira, as a lifelong breast man I believe Stella was the REAL “hostess with the mostest”. Continue reading
