COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM SEPTEMBER 12TH, 2013

* NCAA DIVISION 2 *

West Texas A&MOH, GIVE ME A HOME WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM … – Last night the WEST TEXAS A&M BUFFALOES hosted the CHADRON STATE COLLEGE  EAGLES in one of the best games of the night. This Lone Star Conference versus Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference clash was a thrilling back and forth affair but when all was said and done the Buffaloes came out on top by a final score of 34-31.

Mars Hill College helmetLIONS, HAWKS AND A LIGHTNING DELAY – The MARS HILL COLLEGE LIONS traveled to Georgia to take on the SHORTER UNIVERSITY HAWKS in a game that suffered a lightning delay for more than an hour. The Hawks saw a 23-14 halftime lead evaporate in the 2nd half as the Lions retained their composure and stormed ahead for a 41-30 triumph. Things don’t get any easier for the 0-2 Hawks – their next opponents are D2’s defending champions, the VALDOSTA STATE BLAZERS.

Emporia StateSTUNG BY THE HORNETS – The EMPORIA STATE UNIVERSITY HORNETS welcomed the UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA- KEARNEY LOPERS last night. The Hornets struck swiftly, getting off to a very early lead and reducing the Lopers to endlessly playing catch-up for the Continue reading →

SEXY CASEY JAMES AND SOME OF THE WEIRDEST JUVENILE DELINQUENT MOVIES EVER MADE

Casey JD1Special thanks once again to Balladeer’s Blog’s Official Movie Hostess, the beautiful and dangerous Casey James! Not only is Casey the perfect woman but she also enjoys the absurdity of those over-the- top Juvenile Delinquent films of the 1950s and 1960s. This world-famous sex symbol is uniquely qualified to be the hostess for this article.

HIGH SCHOOL CAESAR (1960) – John Ashley, who was about as menacing as Ned Flanders, plays a bitter rich teenage punk who runs illegal operations at his high school like a junior version of organized crime. The title is a reference to Little Caesar, the gangster movie with Edward G Robinson. Ashley’s JD character peddles the answers to exams, rigs school elections and bilks money from his classmates. All of this is played so seriously you will die laughing. There’s also the obligatory Drag Race and OF COURSE someone dies while drag racing. My Bad Movie page has a full-length review of this one if you’re interested.

SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROCK! (1956) – In this hilarious movie Rock and Roll music is blamed for the Juvenile Delinquency epidemic of the 1950’s. Not only does one particularly irrational city ban rock music completely but it puts the local rock DJ on trial! They hold him accountable for the vandalism and other JD activities that hit the town because, by their logic, the “wild” music he played CAUSED the teenagers to commit their crimes. This is Continue reading →

COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM SEPTEMBER 7TH, 2013

* EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD *

There were so many NCAA Division Two teams upsetting Division ONE teams this past weekend I need an entire section to cover all of them:

Merrimack College helmetTHE WARRIORS CAME OUT TO PLAAA- AAAAAY – Friday night D2’s MERRIMACK COLLEGE WARRIORS got a jump on the weekend’s orgy of upsets. The Warriors traveled to Staten Island to face Division 1’s Wagner College Seahawks under the lights. Both offenses lit up the scoreboard but in the end Merrimack College emerged with a 42-41 triumph in an undeniable Instant Classic!

Delta_StDUEL ON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER DELTA – On Saturday the DELTA STATE UNIVERSITY STATESMEN from Division Two took it on the road to battle Division One’s Mississippi Valley State University Delta Devils. MVSU may be the alma mater of the legendary Jerry Rice but the Statesmen proved to be more than a match for them, winning a gripping 24-14 gridiron epic.

CSU-PuebloHOW ‘BOUT THEM THUNDERWOLVES? – The COLORADO STATE-PUEBLO THUNDERWOLVES came into yesterday ranked number 6 in Division 2. They battled Division 1’s University of Northern Colorado Bears in a game for the ages. The Thunderwolves’ faithful will be talking about this clash for years as CSU-Pueblo toppled the Bears in their own house by a final score of 41-36.

Florida Tech Panthers helmetABSOLUTE BEGINNERS – The FLORIDA TECH PANTHERS played their very first intercollegiate football game yesterday. Florida Tech, from Division 2, took on Division 1’s Stetson University Hatters, who were playing just their second football game since reviving their pigskin program this season. Despite the Hatters’ one-game edge in experience the Panthers came out on top in a Continue reading →

BAD MOVIE: THE DRAGON LIVES AGAIN (1977)

The Dragon Lives Again

The Dragon Lives Again

THE DRAGON LIVES AGAIN (1977) – Category: Brucesploitation with an enjoyably absurd twist

Even for the bizarre sub-genre of Brucesploitation films this movie is out there! The film starts with the recently – deceased Bruce Lee arriving in the afterlife, where the concubines of the King of the Dead gather around to gawk at the bulge in the pants of the late martial arts superstar. (Just in case you thought NO opening could be more tasteless than the one in The Clones Of Bruce Lee ) In a bit of alleged comic relief the bulge turns out to be caused by a weapon, not Lee’s organ. (Corpse schlong jokes! Who doesn’t love them?)

As head-shaking as that bit is at least it’s coherent, unlike virtually everything else that happens from this point on in the movie. And the time-honored tradition of Brucesploitation films having Continue reading →

NOTEWORTHY COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM AUGUST 24TH

Balladeer’s Blog presents its usual Sunday look at the previous day’s college football action on this, the REAL opening weekend for the 2013 season.

Rocky Mountain CollegeGETTING A JUMP ON THE WEEKEND – in the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) the ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS and the JAMESTOWN COLLEGE JIMMIES kicked off the action Friday night. The Jimmies led RMC by a score of 13-6 in the 2nd Quarter but the Battlin’ Bears’ quarterback Bryce Baker (Official Balladeer’s Blog nickname B Squared) stayed cool. Baker rallied his team with three passing Touchdowns and a rushing score as well. Rocky Mountain College took a 20-13 lead by halftime and won this opening game of the 2013 season by a final score of 34-20.

Hutchinson Blue DragonsBLUE DRAGONS SCORCH THE RED RAVENS – In this colorful matchup yesterday from the Jayhawk Conference the HUTCHINSON BLUE DRAGONS took it on the road and torched all the feathers off of the COFFEYVILLE RED RAVENS. The score in this clash was tied up 7-7 at the end of the 1st Quarter but Hutch’s Ryan Weese added 2 Field Goals in the 2nd Quarter to give the Blue Dragons a 13-7 lead at the half. Hutchinson added 21 points in the 3rd and 10 more in the 4th with Coffeyville managing just 7 points total in the 2nd half. Hutchinson’s Quarterback “Lethal” Luke Barnes went 28 of 46 for 228 yards and 2 Touchdowns in this 44-14 rout.

Iowa Western CollegeTHE BATTLE IN THE VALLEY – The IOWA WESTERN REIVERS, the reigning champions of NJCAA Football, began their defense of the title yesterday by facing the TRINITY VALLEY COLLEGE CARDINALS in the 2nd Annual Battle in the Valley. A very game Cardinals team led 7-3 at the end of the 1st Quarter but the Reivers notched a 2nd Quarter Touchdown to take a 10-7 halftime lead. Iowa Western held a 17-10 advantage going into the 4th Quarter but the Cardinals, driving from their own 7 yard line, moved the ball 93 yards to knot the game up at 17 all with under Continue reading →

IROQUOIS EPIC MYTH: HODADEION PART EIGHT

Iroquois

Iroquois

Part 8: Niagara Falls Death Trap  – As part 7 concluded Hodadeion, the Iroquois god of magic, was alarmed to find that the twin enchantresses who were in reality two giant white herons had flown him in a huge basket to a rock at the top of what is now called Niagara Falls. They had stranded him there surrounded by a massive volume of water roaring its way past the small outcropping of rock the demigod was on, ultimately descending in a loud roar of falling liquid.

Hodadeion did not know what fate awaited him in that precarious position, or what dire menace the Heron Maidens expected to assault him in his perilous situation but he Continue reading →
