THE DRAGON LIVES AGAIN (1977): BRUCE LEE EXPLOITATION

Dragon Lives Again

The Dragon Lives Again

THE DRAGON LIVES AGAIN (1977) – CategoryBrucesploitation with an enjoyably absurd twist

Even for the bizarre sub-genre of Brucesploitation films this movie is out there! The film starts with the recently – deceased Bruce Lee arriving in the afterlife, where the concubines of the King of the Dead gather around to gawk at the bulge in the pants of the late martial arts superstar. (Just in case you thought NO opening could be more tasteless than the one in The Clones Of Bruce Lee ) In a bit of alleged comic relief the bulge turns out to be caused by a weapon, not Lee’s organ. (Corpse schlong jokes! Who doesn’t love them?)

As head-shaking as that bit is at least it’s coherent, unlike virtually everything else that happens from this point on in the movie. And the time-honored tradition of Brucesploitation films having  leading men who don’t even look like Bruce Lee is well-represented in this flick, but at least here they try to explain it away by talking about how a person’s face and body change after death.  Which, of course, makes no sense since this is supposed to be Lee’s soul, not his body.

Anyway, Bruce somehow persuades the King Of The Dead to grant him a chance to return to the world of the living, and is told he can return if he outfights all the other inhabitants of this odd netherworld.

You see, this isn’t just any bland version of the afterlife our hero finds himself in. It’s kind of a Valhalla of cult movie characters and Bruce spends the rest of the movie fighting all of them in various combinations. Continue reading

BAD MOVIE PAGE: THE CLONES OF BRUCE LEE (1979)

This is one of the reviews I get the most e-mail over so here it is again for the old fans and the new readers who have been requesting it without realizing I already reviewed it last year. Remember, before requesting a review you may want to see if I reviewed it already by checking my Bad Movies page. https://glitternight.com/bad-movies/

THE CLONES OF BRUCE LEE (1979) – Category: Brucesploitation with an enjoyably absurd twist.       In the joyously tasteless beginning of this quintessential Brucesploitation movie British secret agents extract cell samples from the martial arts superstar on his deathbed. Since E-Bay wasn’t around yet they can’t auction off the cell samples so instead they use them to make three Bruce Lee clones to form an elite crime fighting unit.

You have to Continue reading

BAD MOVIE PAGE: GHOST BUSTING (1991)

“Can somebody show me how to play this?”

GHOST BUSTING (1991) – Category – More weird than bad, but butt-kickingly weird        I first saw this little honey more than a decade ago, but it’s pretty much timeless. It comes to us from Hong Kong, the land of killer fetus movies plus films with such extreme violence and sexual content that many of their movies can’t even be shown on PAY CABLE in the U.S.

Ghost Busting doesn’t pack anywhere near that kind of punch, but it sets up housekeeping in your head  because of its sheer weirdness. Wong Jing, Hong Kong’s answer to America’s William “One Shot” Beaudine and Italy’s Miles Deem, directed this film, so my fellow bad movie geeks know what to expect. The story involves a Continue reading

NAIA FOOTBALL SEASON HAS STARTED (in other news the rest of the world supposedly still exists)

The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year got underway Thursday night with five gridiron contests involving NAIA football teams, three of them ranked. (For those matchups click here: https://glitternight.com/2010/08/25/naia-football-season-starts-this-thursday-night-aug-26th/  ) This coming Saturday will see seven more ranked NAIA squads in action for the first full Saturday of college football in 2010. Saturday night at 7pm the Notre Dame College Falcons will play the first intercollegiate football game in the school’s 88 year history. In a time when economic woes have been causing some institutions of higher learning to discontinue football Notre Dame College (Motto: “No, not THAT Notre Dame”) is one of the handful launching or reviving the sport.

It’s not South Bend, IN, but Lyndhurst, OH where the Falcons will host the Mercyhurst Lakers in this historical first game. The following Saturday Notre Dame College will be on the road in another history-making matchup in the first intercollegiate football game played by the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders in 75 years. Other home games for the Falcons will be against the Walsh Cavaliers, the Marian College Knights, the North Greenville Crusaders and the Urbana Blue Knights.

This is what the helmet layout will look like when the Notre Dame College Falcons take on the Mercyhurst Lakers this Saturday:

This is what it would look like if they took on the NFL Champion Saints:

And this is what it would look like if they took on martial arts legend Bruce Lee:

Kind of makes The Master look kind of small, doesn’t it?
