PELE
Balladeer’s Blog begins a new serialized feature with this examination of the grand and exciting Hawaiian epic about the goddesses Pele and Hi’iaka.
PART ONE
On the Big Island of Hawaii the fire and volcano goddess Pele was relaxing with her younger sister Hi’iaka, the goddess of pathways and wayfarers. Hi’iaka was watching two Hawaiian women performing a Hula dance dedicated to Laka, the goddess of love, beauty and fertility and the deity who had invented Hula dancing.
Despite Hi’iaka’s excited praising of the dancing girls’ talents Pele found herself bored by the proceedings and fell asleep. Laka, enjoying the dance and the traditional post-dance offerings to her, felt disrespected by Pele’s inattention. Using her powers as the goddess of love she sent a dream to the sleeping Pela – a dream that would have far-reaching consequences and forever change the relationship between the fire goddess and her sister Hi’iaka. I always have to laugh at the pompous asses who pretend to be Liberals here in the 21st Century. They are anything BUT Liberal as evidenced by their fondness for censorship and for destroying the careers of people who express opinions they don’t like. The left is too lacking in self-awareness to even realize that THEY are the reason people regard Islam with suspicion.
People would have nothing against Islam IF it was treated the same way all other religions are treated, but everywhere Islam has spread in Europe formerly free societies wind up with Muslims tarnishing their host countries with their outdated worldview and barbaric treatment of women. AND IT IS ALWAYS THE LEFT SUPPORTING THEM IN DOING IT! (See the Rotherham Report and the Muslim gangs raping women throughout Europe on New Year’s Eve plus countless other examples.)

Paul “Jacinto Molina” Naschy was Spain’s King of Horror decades ago. Many of his films featured his recurring character Waldemar Daninsky, a tormented lycanthrope who was seeking a cure for his curse.
Long ago I reviewed Assignment: Terror (1969), which pitted Waldemar against aliens, a faux Frankenstein Monster, a vampire and a mummy. Here are three more from Naschy:
Dr Jekyll vs The Wolfman (1972), in which a descendant of the original Dr Jekyll uses the family formula to cure Waldemar of lycanthropy. Trouble is he starts turning into a kinky and murderous Mr Hyde on the nights of the full moon. (This is better than being a werewolf?) Continue reading

“NO! MUSLIMS CANNOT MURDER OUR FREEDOMS”
A year ago the German publication the Berliner Kurier continued showing defiance to Muslim fanatics and their would-be Kapos in the west. Islam is always the rabid animal retarding the rest of the world’s social progress and the ugly Muslim habit of wanting to stifle freedom wherever they go MUST be opposed.
The misogyny, homophobia and superstitious savagery of Islam is incompatible with diverse societies and Muslims expect “understanding” and “tolerance” to be a one-way street.
A depiction of their child-raping “prophet” (snicker) bathing in blood while reading a copy of Charlie Hebdo is much more daring than anything the gutless newspapers in America will run. At any rate all religions are nonsense but Islam is the only one that continues living in the 7th Century. Continue reading

PART TWELVE
Soon the freed Earthwoman Aina (ah-EEE-nuh) was fluent enough in English and the High Command of the Terran fleet were well-versed enough in the ancient tongue of Aina’s people AND the Martians’ own language. In the present state of affairs Aina could understand and be understood enough that Edison, Serviss, Colonel Smith and the others could make clear to the former slave-girl their strategic needs.
When Aina gave the Earthmen a breakdown on all that she and her people had learned during their servitude on the Red Planet a plan came to mind. Thomas Edison’s strategy took the shape of the soon-to-be- formula “unstoppable army who can be defeated by a single quick blow inflicted at a ridiculously obvious point of weakness.” Continue reading

The symbol of the nonexistent Balladeer Political Party
According to Gallup FORTY-TWO PERCENT of Americans now prefer to call themselves “Independent” voters (like yours truly) rather than claim affiliation with either the Democratic or Republican Parties.
No surprise. Those two parties are just rival gangs of white-collar criminals who spend their careers barely one step ahead of a criminal indictment yet they consider themselves fit to lecture the rest of us on how we should think and feel.
BOTH parties are at a record low in terms of people claiming affiliation with them, but in typical fashion Democratic Party outlets are only hyping the Republicans’ low figures and Republican Party outlets are only hyping the Democrats’ low figures. Continue reading

Obama at his most presidential
Since I’m an independent voter who doesn’t belong to any of America’s increasingly out-of- touch political parties I can objectively state that Barack Obama has been a disaster.
Along with his clueless classroom-level worldview, his ineptitude and his outright corruption comes his smarminess. Obama makes the oiliest used-car sales rep look sincere and makes the repulsive Richard Nixon seem straightforward by comparison.
Little Barry loves to push some of his less popular notions by tearfully claiming that “if they save even one life …” they’re worth implementing.
We can easily flip that thinking on Obama by saying the same thing – all while choking up with forced tears, of course.
“If it saves even one life” isn’t it better to stop bringing in Syrian refugees until they can be PROPERLY vetted?
“If it saved even one life” wouldn’t it have been worth it to NOT implement the ongoing train-wreck called Obamacare, which heartlessly did NOT cover many life-preserving treatments and medications for so many unfortunate people. (Little Barry loved bragging about how “pre-existing conditions” supposedly HAD to be treated but that turned out to be as false as his claim that “if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor.”) Continue reading

THE DEATHMASTER (1972) – In between his pair of movies as the vampire named Count Yorga the one and only Robert Quarry starred as a vampiric Charles Manson wannabe in this film. The Deathmaster starts out with a great bit that wouldn’t look out of place in a Jean Rollin horror flick from France: the huge, hulking Barbado (Le Sesne Hilton) plays eerie flute music, seemingly luring ashore a sea-tossed coffin. Naturally this casket holds our “Deathmaster” – a vampire called Khorda.
Unfortunately it’s all downhill from there unless you’re like me and you really enjoy bad movies. Khorda eschews the usual vampire shtick of being a suave ladies’ man. His approach is to dress like early 1970s hippies do and model his coiffure and facial hair after Charles Manson. The filmmakers even admitted that was indeed the look they were going for.
