ASK BALLADEER: MY SECOND CIVIL WAR SERIES

American FlagAs always I want to thank all of you readers of Balladeer’s Blog! I love how you are solid enough that you don’t leave in a huff just because you might read something you disagree with or don’t like.

I’ve gotten a lot of questions about why I stopped adding to my series of blog posts about my fictional Second U.S. Civil War (which morphed into World War Three when China intervened). Here are some reasons:

A. The bitter divisions in the U.S. have surged so much in real life that what I was writing might seem almost mild in comparison.

Mascot with demo and repub heads

The symbol of the nonexistent Balladeer Political Party

B. If you recall, the trigger for my fictional “Civil War Two” was a disputed presidential election, which I based partly on the contested election of 1876 and a tiny bit from Al Gore’s legal challenges to the 2000 election results. Once again real life has outstripped what I was writing.

C. My fictional Civil War borrowed from the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939 and featured Liberal fanatics and Conservative fanatics each claiming their candidate was the “real” winner and I depicted them setting up competing governments – each claiming to be the “legitimate” U.S. government.

D. The real divisions now in the U.S. are between Populists on one side and Plutocrats & their forces on the other, no longer Liberal vs Conservative. Continue reading

ATROCITIES OF THE 2nd U.S. CIVIL WAR

VICTIMSWelcome back to more of my findings from my fictional role as an archaeologist recovering relics from the future.

Last time I translated the foreward to a history book from roughly 2109 -2120. The book dealt with the Second American Civil War of 2037 – 2039, at which point China became heavily involved and the conflict morphed into the Third World War.

This time around I was able to finish a fragment of an early chapter of that same book. This chapter was examining the atrocities perpetrated by some of the units from both the left- wing and the right-wing sides of the war. The Liberal fanatics and the Conservative fanatics were both claiming to be the legitimate government of the former United States, if you’ll recall. Here are the latest lines I was able to translate from the dominant Earthly language of the 22nd Century.

” In the final third of the 20th Century the Continue reading

DJANGO: THE DEFINITIVE BIOGRAPHY

Yes, with the upcoming release of Quentin Tarantino’s reboot of the Django saga in his western Django Unchained, it’s been a veritable Djangofest here at Balladeer’s Blog.

In the style of my Frontierado Sagas here’s a thoroughly tongue- in-cheek biography of the most famous Spaghetti Western hero of them all.

The Wild West gunfighter known to the world as Django blazed his way into the annals of history first as a Jayhawker, then as a Union soldier in the Civil War and finally as a bounty hunter.

His blood-feud with the former Confederate officer Major Edward F Jackson over the death of Django’s first wife is as well-known as the clash between the Clantons and the Earps in Tombstone, AZ. Movies have distorted many of the facts of this legendary gunman’s life just as they have with other western figures like Doc Holliday, Billy the Kid and many others. The many films about Django feature wildly contradictory information and part of the purpose of this biography will be to illustrate the true events underlying the cinematic myths about this operatic figure.

The real name of the man eventually known as Django was Continue reading

FUTURE HISTORY: MORE ON THE SECOND U.S. CIVIL WAR

Welcome back to more of my findings from my fictional role as an archaeologist recovering relics from the future.

Last time I translated the foreward to a history book from roughly 2109 -2120. The book dealt with the Second American Civil War of 2037 – 2039, at which point China became heavily involved and the conflict morphed into the Third World War.

Here are the latest lines I was able to translate from the dominant Earthly language of the 22nd Century.

” In the final third of the 20th Century the speakers and money people of the Democratic Party ( which spawned the Liberal fanatics just as the Republican Party spawned the Conservative fanatics ) began developing a very proprietary, some would say condescending, attitude toward Continue reading

FUTURE HISTORY – PRELUDE TO WORLD WAR III: THE SECOND U.S. CIVIL WAR

In my fictional role as an archaeologist who retrieves documents from the future (after all, anybody can find documents and relics from the PAST) I’ve discovered quite a few items pertaining to our near future. This is one of those fragmented cyber-documents that I’ve been able to translate into English from the dominant Earthly language of the future. There are a great many lacunae in the documents owing to the strain of temporal travel back here to the year 2012 so the translations will be slow- going.

This first item is from a book that appears to be from roughly 2109 – 2120. I’m changing the author’s name to prevent potentially interfering with the lives of their ancestors who are alive right now. First of all is the foreward to that book.

FOREWARD

This revised edition of Lucian Monahan’s exhaustive historical account of the 2nd American Civil War in the 2030’s includes additional material that was not available for the original edition. The additional material includes Monahan’s interviews with the left-wing and right-wing generals and political leaders mere days before the conflict went global, morphing into the 3rd World War.

With various creditor nations of the former United States despairing of a Continue reading
