Briar Cliff University Chargers logoAnd speaking of shockers the BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS came in as the 8 seeds but toppled the TOP SEEDED DOANE COLLEGE TIGERS  3-1!  ###   The 5th seeded DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS kept the upset mojo going by beating the 4th seeded MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS in an 8-1 buttkicking.   ###   And the 3rd seeded MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS were the only higher seed to win in the morning games. The Warriors eviscerated the 6th seeded HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS to the tune of ELEVEN to ONE!

Northwestern (IA) Red Raiders logoEVENING GAMES – The (2) NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS bounced back from their morning loss and won a 1-0 pitcher’s duel to eliminate the (6) HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS. COLLEGE BASEBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT RESULTS FROM APRIL 30th

* SOUTHERN STATES ATHLETIC CONFERENCE *

PrintUPSET OF THE DAY – The SSAC’s 8th seeded AUBURN UNIVERSITY AT MONTGOMERY WARHAWKS (formerly the Senators) delivered the shock of the day yesterday. The Warhawks rose up and dragged down the conference’s top seeded FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES in an undeniable Instant Classic. The Eagles were leading 2-0 going into the top of the 8th Inning when the Warhawk bats came to life, seizing a 4-2 lead. Faulkner, the defending national champions of NAIA college baseball, pulled to 4-3 in their half of the Inning and AUM responded by adding another run in the top of the 9th. The Warhawks limited the Eagles to just 1 run themselves in the bottom of the Inning and nabbed a 5-4 victory! AUM’s P.J. Leto got the win!

brewtonparkerTHEY HAD ‘EM ALL THE WAY! – With apologies to the late baseball broadcaster Bob Prince. The 2nd seeded BREWTON- PARKER COLLEGE BARONS well and truly had their First Round opponents – the 7th seeded UNIVERSITY OF MOBILE RAMS – all the way. A 2-0 lead after the 1st Inning became 3-0 after the 2nd, 4-0 after the 5th and 6-0 after the 6th! The Rams finally got on the board in the top of the 8th Inning with a pair of runs but the Barons added another run of their own to make it 7-2, which would hold up as the final score! For the Barons Mike Venturelli walked away with the win.   Continue reading

Point Park U PioneersThe top-seeded POINT PARK UNIVERSITY PIONEERS stayed perfect in tourney play in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference yesterday. COLLEGE BASEBALL: NAIA CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS ARE UNDERWAY!

ius_logoThe Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference threw out the first pitch yesterday in postseason play for the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics). The ever- dangerous INDIANA UNIVERSITY- SOUTHEAST GRENADIERS came in as the 3 seeds and opened up the proverbial can of whupass on the 6th seeded ALICE LLOYD COLLEGE EAGLES. The college sports gods always smile when a team with an overused name like Eagles, Tigers, Bulldogs or Wildcats gets routed and the Grenadiers were happy to oblige!

IUS led 4-1 after the 1st Inning and 7-1 after the 2nd. The Grenadiers then went on to put up 4, 1 and 3 runs respectively in the 7th, 8th and 9th Innings on their way to an impressive FIFTEEN to ONE humilation of the Eagles. Mason Lingafelter got the win as IUS moves on to the next round.   Continue reading

Alfred State Pioneers logoTHE ULTIMATE PITCHER’S DUEL – Ryan Hedges from the ALFRED STATE PIONEERS took on Derek Harkin from the SUNY- CANTON KANGAROOS in the most exciting battle of the mounds from yesterday’s action. FOUR MORE COLLEGE BASEBALL CHAMPIONS CROWNED

* NAIA *

Faulkner U Eagles logoThe NAIA’s top seeded FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES ended the Cinderella run of the 7th seeded LEWIS-CLARK STATE WARRIORS. It’s rare for Lewis-Clark State to be considered Cinderellas on the diamond but how else would you describe a 7 seed in the championship game? At any rate Faulkner lived up to all the hype enroute to its first ever national title in baseball. By the 2nd inning the Eagles’ sound and fury had given them a 6-2 lead over the Warriors. By the 4th it was an 8-2 lead, then a 10-2 lead after 7, all climaxing with an 11-4 final score. Congratulations to Faulkner, the 2013 baseball champions of the NAIA (National Association of Continue reading
